One of my highlights on my visit to San Antonio. I can't say enough about this place, especially around Christmas time. This place is off the charts in beauty and atmosphere. Romantic spot while also a spot to bring both friends and family. There is even outside music and an outside bar, which in no way takes away the romance since it's on the opposite side of the restaurant. This is a must-see if you are in the San Antonio area.
The Gristmill in Gruene, TX, is more than just a restaurant—it's an experience. Nestled in a stunning historic building, this eatery boasts a charming beer garden where you can enjoy live music while waiting for your table. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with plenty of tables and space to accommodate large and small parties alike. The cleanliness of the establishment is impeccable, and the staff is amazing—friendly, accommodating, and highly knowledgeable about the menu.
What truly sets The Gristmill apart are the breathtaking views from the patio levels, where you can soak in the beauty of the surrounding area while indulging in a memorable meal. Speaking of the food, prepare to be blown away. Our dining experience was exceptional from start to finish.
One of our friend ordered the chicken pasta salad, which was a flavor explosion—every bite made your taste buds dance with delight. My husband opted for the fried shrimp, which was perfectly seasoned and cooked to golden brown perfection, accompanied by green beans and mushrooms that were simply to die for. As for me, I chose the country club sandwich, and it did not disappoint. Packed with tender turkey, crispy bacon, and creamy avocado, it was a sandwich lover's dream.
Whether you're a local or just passing through, The Gristmill is a must-visit destination in Gruene. The combination of delicious food, beautiful surroundings, and top-notch service makes it a place you'll want to return to again and again.
My folks loved this place. So every time we are in town we stop here. The staff is fantastic. My chicken fried steak melted in my mouth. Very large portions. My wife's burger was too greasy for her tastes. She dried the meat and it was OK. You can sit inside or outside with views of the river.
The food was amazing. I got shared a sirloin with my son. Perfectly cooked and the green beans tasted so good. My husband got the burger with fries. He really enjoyed the burger and the fries were a cross between potato rounds and potato chips which was a nice surprise. Our friend had the chicken fried steak and you could tell it was fresh not frozen. We were on the back porch and there were mist fans to keep us cool in this Texas heat. Our waitress and everyone we encountered were friendly and all smiles.
Talking about great food, service and atmosphere, if you looking for those three things in a restaurant, gristmill it's your place.

The food it's fresh made with care, with passion, the food will take you back to memories of comforter food and being with family enjoying meals together.
Fried chicken steak amazing flavors, juicy, not greasy at all. The mashed potatoes creamy delicious. The steak was perfect it's been awhile since I had a steak that was cooked perfectly. Asparagus crunchy tasting they were just amazing. The potatoes were cut round thick and perfectly seasoned.
The dessert was a sheet cake / brownie if you enjoy chocolate on top of chocolate plus nuts than come try it It's a fluffy sheet cake, super moist.

Excellent service, Beautiful ambiance, delicious food!! Everything from our dinning experience was amazing! Brianna our waitress was ????++ in every way from her smile to the way she made sure we were satisfied with our orders! Bri, you’re Amazing! We came for dinner on a busy Saturday evening but not one item was delayed when I say we were served within minutes I do mean minutes.
Appetizers:
Small order of onion rings- fried and battered to perfection!
Spinach /Artichoke dip- the chips melted in your mouth crisp and warm as well as he tasty dip.
House salad : a big portion for 2 to share.
Entree: I ordered the chicken fried chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy( note: request gravy on side,as they do serve heavy on the gravy.) plate is large enough for 2 to share. My husband ordered the sirloin steak( medium rare) to which he gave ✨⭐️he loved every bite! I didn’t get a picture, I got to busy enjoying mine. Looking forward to a prompt return! Thank you!
The batter on the chicken fried steak is unlike anything I’ve had before. It is crispy and delicious, but it also light. It’s not thick like many other restaurants I’ve tried. In addition to the lovely, relaxed atmosphere, I was most impressed with the staff. My waitress Mia was wonderful with just the right amount of follow up and always kept my drink full. The entire staff was friendly and smiling. Just a great experience. I’m only upset that I didn’t make it here sooner.
Enjoyed a nice afternoon and amazing lunch! The food was delicious, our waitress was attentive, helpful and perfect… the outdoor seating was so nice and relaxing … can’t wait to come back .. ♥️
