We have been to this place a few times over the years. The food is always good. This time, I tried the green beans for a side, and they were not that good. For one, they were overcooked, and some of them looked like they needed to be trashed. I couldn't eat them. The
Chicken Acapulco was very tasty. My husband had fried catfish, which is always great( seasoned well and fried right). The onion rings are big and tasty. The food turnaround time is not bad. Our server was very friendly and polite. The atmosphere is very relaxing. They do not have air conditioning, so go early because it can get hot. They have shaded areas with fans. Great view if you go to lower level(a lot of stairs). The Flys can get pretty bad.
We had the chicken fried steak and fried catfish. Both perfectly seasoned and every-bit the comfort food we were craving. We drove almost an hour to try out these entrees and we were pleasantly surprised how worth it our trek was. Queso and chips were delightful. Food came out fast. Outdoor seating was hot but that’s to be expected in the Texas Summers. Our server was quick to take our orders and keep the cool refills coming. It’s clear that both the back and front of house is on it and a well-oiled machine. We will be making this trip again!
Visiting from NC and my friends/family suggested we stopped here for lunch. This place is absolutely beautiful!!! Shelby, our server, was absolutely amazing!!! She is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable! She always had a smile on her face! The food was DELICIOUS!!! We had Texas Torpedoes, chicken fried steak and chicken caesar salad! Looking to coming back again when I come back to visit!
What a lovely place! This historic building, an ex German cotton mill, which probably was the starting of bringing German settlers to this town, seeps in history through and through.
The restaurant is massive and has both indoor and outdoor seating. We had requested outdoor seating by the river, which we were given.
While the restaurant is huge and is commendably very well managed. We were greeted with a very pleasant staff and our server was extremely attentive and made the right recommendations to us.
We ordered a fried catfish and the fried chicken stake. The fish was fresh, the batter thin and crisp and overall the dish was dish was delicious.
We found the chicken steak tough and bland and didn’t really like it.
The sides were pretty good as well.
Do reserve a table in advance of about 45 minutes for a weekend.
First time eating here! There was a mishap with our table, but they fixed it quickly! (Loved the customer service) Seth our waiter he was AWESOME.
Drinks never got empty.
The food was good my husband loved the onion rings, I loved the spinach dip I ended up ordering 2 that’s how good it was! (Make sure you try it) My burger wasn’t cooked all the way through they fixed that with the quickness & gave some of their fries to try (which were good)
The bathrooms were a bit different, Overall we loved the restaurant.
The Gristmill River Restaurant in Gruene, Texas, is a wonderful hidden gem with a breathtaking location overlooking the Guadalupe River. The rustic atmosphere and friendly staff create a welcoming environment for diners. The food is exceptional, with flavorful dishes made with fresh ingredients. The Guadalupe Chop Steak and Chicken Fried Steak are standout items that are sure to impress anyone looking for a quick detour to truly spectacular establishment. If you are making your way to Greune. Be sure to stop by, enjoy the view, and grab a delicious meal.
Excellent location, beautiful cotton gin building, very historic, wildlife, food was good but very small portions for the price. Great customer service would highly recommend. Can walk down the road to get to the river it overlooks.
I have lived in the San Antonio area for a minute, and this was my first visit to this area. Before I critique my meal, I will let you know that it was truly outdone by the scenery. The location is beautiful and offers expansive options outside of the restaurant. The meal itself was a treat, and the service was excellent. Do yourself a favor and allot yourself some time to experience bith the food and atmosphere
