We were so excited for our family staycation at GWL. We arrived on a Thursday. I will say checkin was quite impressive with their easy kiosk. We headed straight for the waterpark, which was a blast. There were jot enough tables chairs. I asked where the water fountain was, and they told me I had to go back through the hotel to find one. It was impossible to find water fountains throughout the hotel. The elevators were slow or out of service. The mattresses on the beds have obviously never been replaced since being built / so uncomfortable and overused. Gives me unclean vibes!!! We ate lunch in the waterpark and the food was easy to order, but terribly quality!! They forgot our fries and they couldn’t figure out how to order them from the kitchen. 30 minutes later I asked them to just give me pretzels instead. It takes forever to get anywhere around the hotel! We tried the magji game but / took forever to buy and set them up. My 3 year old son hurt his toe and They had NO band aids available at the front desk or gift shop….. you run a massive water park and you don’t have a first aid kit!?!? A huge operating Starbucks has no napkins available? Also who has a dance party for small children at 9 pm? We wanted to enjoy this experience, but was left being disappointed over and over. You can FEEL the cost cuts by management. They are understaffed while trying to over charge you on everything. It is a cute concept, but under delivered. Seems like they are still trying to recover from Covid 4 years later…. Will not be returning.
This place is awful. Overpriced and unclean. Parking is a nightmare and your lucky if you find a spot at all; once you enter, you can tell their giant tree decoration hasn’t been cleaned or dusted in years, they don’t mention in their website or the customer service number when booking that they charge a $100 incident fee, along with $15 parking, and all the other “fees”. We had used a discount code for one of their promotions and a room that was suppose to be $195 a night turned into $300 for one night after all the fees and parking! FYI, they have to have your card on file and if you have a gift certificate they can’t charge the incident fee to that. We had to hang out in the water park before going to our room, which was fine but if you need to use a locker to carry your stuff since you can’t get into your room until way later, it’s $20 for a rental each time. The chlorine in the water park is so strong it burns your eyes and skin, the jacuzzi had foam all in it and spilling over the sides… which means nasty body residue and such was left and not cleaned or maintained. You can tell the pools need a deep clean and the pipes that hold together the slides and area where the giant bucket dumps water at, needs to be replaced… it was rusted out. Pee puddles were in various spots around the water park, outside slides were not open for use, on your way to the water park they have aligned all the “extra” stuff, such as the arcade, build a bear, etc… so of course kids see all this and want to do it all, just in case you needed to know for budgeting purposes. When we got into our room it was not as advertised in their pictures online, there was ripped up carpet, paint peeling off the bathroom walls, a dirty mirror in the bathroom, horribly hard beds, sticky remotes, and sticky tables. If you have to eat there, it’s crazy pricing. We had gotten one pizza and one pasta and that was $40. Then for dinner again we had gotten a pizza and two pastas and a 2liter, that was $68. The only reason we didn’t choose to do the buffet option was because we had heard from an employee it was $30 per person, this was not told to us during check in. In fact we didn’t get any type of informational pamphlet or anything, you can’t even see prices for such things on their app. For two pairs of ears and a pair of wolf slippers it was $60. The elevators worked half of the time, as they kept breaking down. Checkout is at 11am, and if you wanted a later check out time it’s an additional $90. Overall… you could go somewhere cheaper/same price and cleaner… would not recommend ever!
Very disappointed in our stay this time. The last time we came was 7 yrs ago & we had the best time. I graduated from|UTA on Friday so we booked our stay for 2 rooms for Friday and Saturday months ago. I not only requested the rooms be close together in the reservation request but also called twice (once right after booking and again just this past week). Long story short, we are 58 rooms apart (probably a quarter of a mile). We also requested a lower floor room as my mom is elderly. We were put on the 5th floor. The room was clean and well kept minus the slow drain to the shower/tub which isn’t a deal breaker. We immediately went to lodge wood fired grill. (2 pm Friday) The food was great but the service sucked. Especially being that we were the only patrons there. Our bill for the 3 adults, 2 kids was $170 (+ tip). If you’re paying $170 for a meal and you’re the only patrons there I feel there shouldn’t be any service issues. This weekend has been so busy in the waterpark I feel like it definitely pushed the limits on safety. Wave pool was so packed people could barely move. Definitely hard to enjoy when you’re packed in like sardines. There’s also not enough lifeguards for the amount of people here. One lifeguard for the lazy River in my opinion is not great. I never could get a tube for it with all the people. The lines to the slides were 30+ mins. The hallways are packed and the elevators take forever (sometimes 30 mins) especially with everyone playing magiquest. Just very disappointed overall in our visit. We won’t be back.
Make sure you get a detailed itemized reservation email or document. They hook you with an email special offer and they change it on you. The hotel is good for younger kids. If you have teenagers or you are an adult couple you’re better off staying somewhere else and getting Six Flags passes. The hotel room although was set to 66 it was warm every night. If you present any discrepancies to management or front desk they just brush it off and they won’t fix it. The dining facilities have great customer service and food is pretty good. Other than that it is an overpriced hotel with nothing more than an indoor park. You probably will get more for your money somewhere else.
The Waterpark is a good size. It was busy when we went but average time in line for slides is about 10 minutes so not bad.
We only got to experience the indoor part (early May) so I can't say whether I would stay multiple nights.
There's 5 big slides and a couple smaller slides. The wave pool isn't very wavy but the big bucket of water that drops every 5 minutes was awesome! Room is clean and spacious. Toilet paper was abysmally thin.
Overall, I think it's a great place for kids with lots to do.
Absolutely enjoyed The staff. Every staff member at the Lodge is very friendly and helpful. The water park was amazing.!! Although we had a incident where me and my 9 year sons raft turned over and our lifeguard was nowhere to be found. Also I'd recommend ATM machine because at 4am I was thirsty and I want to every floor and all the vending machines took cash only. Food was decent, I definitely enjoyed breakfast more then dinner. Pastas was good, burger was good but my ribs for the price I paid was definitely not worth it at all. Overall I recommend giving this lodge a chance. Definitely a lot to do and fun to be had.!
We are at Grapevine. Check in/out was a nightmare. It was an awful way to start. The luggage carts are SO tiny you can hardly fit anything on them and we had to make multiple trips but there's no real unloading area. The staff are nice about it though. The room was nice. We had the kid cabin and the kids loved the bunk beds. The water park was great. I love the single entry point and how everything is contained so I felt comfortable with the kids being in the sections. The lifeguards are amazing. My kids enjoyed the mining, build a bear, and arcade a lot. They loved the dance party too. The staff were kind and helpful, too. We needed to extend a night due to bad weather and they were helpful and understanding.
Went for my sons birthday. Kids loved it. There's not a lot to do for adults, but for a kid focused vacation, it's perfect. Lifeguards were attentive. Food at Lodge wasn't apatizing to us and over priced but plenty of places nearby to order from. Some play areas need maintenance such as rusted equipment, broken pieces, and cleaning. Flooring should be redone for a more nonslip option (minimal drainage in walk ways). Hotel hallways smelt like mildew or wet dog often.
