It was a great experience to visit this place during the fall season. However, they need to control the crowd especially for parking space as we had to wait almost 30-40 mins for parking. They can either start online booking system or create multiple parking and entry points to avoid the crowd being accumulated at one place for parking. The walk around the lake and the place was also very good and pleasant. One can even rent a paddle boat for 10$ per person and 20$ boat rent which is refundable. It's a pretty good picnic spot where one can find a basketball court and a swimming pool too.

The trails are well organized. It takes about 2 hours to get back and forth. There are quite a lot of things to see after hiking. It's a mountain worth a visit rather than a lot because of the parking fee
Fun hike with lots of views and great facilities and bathroom. Lots of families and traffic on the weekends. Parking is a ten dollar cash fee for everyone. There is some scrambling and it can be slippery so I would definitely recommend hiking shoes and not sneakers… Great view of Manhattan at the summit ????️
There was only 3 trails open so we chose the 947 steps because using my hands to climb up seemed a bit too extreme for our experience. It took us double the time the park attended advised us so we were in for a big surprise. Still, we felt accomplished and thankfully got back down before dark. I didn't want to walk another step after that for at least 3 days. Hopefully, some of their other trails will be open before the fall ends, and they can give better advice and direction. It was a beautiful park, lots of families and great if you're looking for a challenging hike.
Made my first visit here and it was such a great experience. There’s so much to do with the family or just you and your partner. For all who are curious, yes you can BBQ! There’s plenty of space for that with seating. The lake is definitely a must try, paddle boating was so much fun????. There is a zoo and many trails. I my self still haven’t explored it all.
Great place to just walk around and enjoy the landscape. Fall is great to see the leave change colors as well. Dress for walking and the weather. Parking can be a little crazy but they always have room. Just expect to wait on line at times to get in to the parking lot. Purchase the NY State park pass if you plan to visit parks across the state. It pays for it self in the long run.
Bear Mountain State Park is "short" train ride away from New York City and I highly suggest making a visit if you're ever in the area.
Bear Mountain is an absolutely lovely park. There are so many activities for the anyone visiting. There's a playground, a pool, an inn where you can enjoy a glass of wine. And then there are the trails. I'm not the biggest hiker, but there are a variety of trails for you to choose from.
I do suggest checking the website before visiting. Things do change based on the weather and the ground moving. During our visit, the trail we wanted to hike was not open. We found another, but just know things happen.
Overall, a park to visit for sure.
Such a beautiful place to take the family on a day trip. You can picnic and grill while enjoying the gorgeous scenery. There's also a concession stand or cafe if you didn't want to grill or picnic. You can go to the pool and visit the zoo. They have hiking trails as well. The paddle boats are also fun and they have a beautiful carousel.
