Best WLM Reviews

When I ate this pizza in Portland, OR, I said it was the best pizza I’ve had outside of New Haven, CT. I had a feeling with “Apizza” in their name that that would be the case. Apizza Scholls is a slammed popular establishment and for absolutely good reason!…
The base: The process of fermenting their dough takes close to 24 hours at room temperature, with a minimum amount of yeast. The slow fermentation produces flavor in the dough and also gives it the perfectly crackly and chewy texture.
The pies I ordered that I was obsessed with:
- Marinara - red sauce, garlic, mixed herbs, chili flake, black pepper, and evoo finished with sea salt and dressed Arugula.
- Paulie Gee - Their Plain Pie + hot soppressata, ricotta, Sicilian oregano, and garlic topped with fresh basil and Mikes Hot Honey after baking.
Their story: Owners Brian and Kim started out making pizzas in Scholls, OR in 2001. Their pies were often compared to those from pizzerias in New Haven, CT by many of their regulars. As a nod to those pizzerias that have Apizza in their name up north and their first bakery, they combined Apizza with Scholls for their Portland spot!
Another PDX pizza place that lived up to the hype. I took advantage of my early arrival (5p) and ordered the calzone. Not your typical Italian Pizzeria calzone. This had a great chewy dough that oozed with sauce and ricotta. Truly a thing of beauty! I also ordered a large White pie with sausage. Next time, I will ask them to hold the herbs. The beer selection was small but unique. Check this place out next time you are in PDX.
This is one of the best pizza spots not just in Portland but in the country. The attention to detail in preparing this pie is crazy. The flavor of the crust with the perfect bake is perfect. There is so much flavor from the first bite all the way to the crust. Pairs great with the Mikes hot honey. I had a half meatball and half pepperoni and pineapple and it was excellent. The staff was great and super friendly and welcoming on my first trip to Portland.
This was some of the best pizza I’ve ever had, and I’ve eaten a lot of pizza. The Cesar salad was amazing too. Will definitely be coming back next time I’m in town! It’s a small place but if you can get in or order to go, just do it…
Wow!!! That pizza crust guys... Just wow. Bubbly crispy. They also put a unique Parmesan cheese melted into the mozzarella. Their sauce is so fresh in taste. I wish I had more on my pizza, but it was okay because, again the crust was the star of the show. Get the Caesar salad as well, Tangy, garlicy, a slight anchovy essence. Service was quick and friendly. A bit of a loud atmosphere... But not disturbing.
Updated Review 1Yr Later: I’m a firm believer in giving credit where credit is due so here it goes… I have to be honest when we realized we had mistakenly ordered a pizza here (my spouse ordered this time) we were disappointed as the first time we tried their pizza was not great at all. BUT after we got the “Bacon Bianca” pizza and tried it I knew we needed to update the review. The pizza was delicious and we were pleasantly pleased, it was not soggy, and had plenty flavor. The crust could have been done a little less as there were some charred crust but other than that we would recommend trying it. They do charge an 18% gratuity automatically so if you’re like us and tip 15-20% keep that in mind so you don’t accidentally over tip. I did that the first time and it costed me a 33% tip.
First Review:
We are new to the area and heard the pizza was great, so we decided to give it a try. I have to admit it was the worst pizza I've ever eaten. Sadly, we paid $50 for a cardboard pizza and salad. It was greasy, a bit soggy, and overcooked. I wouldn't recommend the "New York White Pie". Very disappointing....last thing is I wish I would have checked the reviews as you can see the owner is not a kind person. Their replies to their customers complaints are horrible and disrespectful. Apparently they don’t know how to take feedback or criticism. If they don’t like your review they will insult you (screenshots attached). Seems like they are pretty busy so they don’t care if they get bad reviews.
Excellent, elevated and classic pizzas! Our favorite was the Amatriciana! The crust is so fresh, crispy, with the perfect chew in the middle. Definitely top ten places to visit while in Portland !
Finally got around to trying Apizza Scholls, it is a bustling pizza haven. With a party of three, despite the crowd, we were seated fairly quickly. The service was lightning-fast, and our glasses never went empty—quick water refills always!
The menu offered an array of pizza options and we were offered sides like ranch (extra cost for hot honey). The pizza here is spectacular with a crispy crust that holds its own, and just the right amount of toppings without it being too floppy. Each ingredient tasted fresh and full of flavor.
The ambiance is top-notch; great vibes all around. Impeccably clean and staffed with incredibly friendly individuals, this spot truly lives up to its reputation as one of Portland's finest pizza joints.
If you're in town and searching for an exceptional pizza experience, this place is more than deserving of its accolades as one of the best in Portland!
Bonus: their ice cream sandwiches are actually really good!
