Best WLM Reviews

We wanted the South Indian Thali meals but they were not available. They had stopped serving the Thali meals to our disappointment. So we had to order Ala Carte. We ordered all our dishes as mildly spicy but phew, the food was way too spicy for me to handle. I can’t imagine their higher levels of spiciness, lol. Their dessert Rava Kesari didn’t meet my expectations, the Malabar parottas were very greasy. Wouldn’t recommend the vegetarian biriyani at all.
The service was fast. Very friendly staff.
Ambiance was good. The washrooms didn’t have paper napkins. They had dryers only. I didn’t like to be touching the door handles after washing my hands. Their dishes were pricey, got a big bill compared to other places. Overall experience was just okay.
Ordered the veg thali and got 15 items including the roti, rice pappadam and pickles. Taste is 4/5, the rasam and kara koram wasn't that great and bit on the sweet side but rest everything else was good
Every dish here is delicious. We had fried anchovies, chicken tandoori, goat biryani, goat pepper curry - best curry i ever had, malabar parotta (bread) - best dipping in the curry & an unusual drink-Nannari Sarbath (drink). Worth the visit. I would come back here again to try to other dishes. The restaurant had lots of parking, great atmosphere and excellent service. Thank you guys. We loved the experience.
Crispy dosa was perfectly good but the chutneys were remarkably bad. Coconut chutney was not spiced, had no herbs, and did not taste fresh, and the tomato chutney had a very bad flavor of some kind. Sambar was forgettable at best. The masala spice on the Mysore dosa was pretty good, but the filling (potato and cauliflower) was bland. We also ordered veg biryani with egg, which was very disappointing, had no aromatics whatsoever, only two plain hard boiled eggs plopped on top, and tasted like store-bought curry powder. Didn’t end up eating much of that because it was really sad. Basically, I drove all the way to Artesia for this expensive place, but I can get much better curry and biryani from the corner takeout near my house for half the price, let alone what I can make at home. Also, the combination of dim, flourescent lighting, weird colors and annoying music made sitting here very depressing. On the plus side, we were seated quickly, the service was quick, and the server was pleasant.
My first experience with Anjappar was in India with their unlimited non veg meals and always wanted to give this place a try at Artesia.
Service: The service to start with has a weird vibe. Some are polite and formal, some in a rush and casual and some bordering rudeness.
Menu: The menu doesn’t have prices in them for dishes - the dishes are not super expensive but yes above average for the quality, quantity and service provided in the place.
Food: The spice levels are high. The peppers overwhelm some taste of the food, but overall ok. The food is not customizable - you cannot get masala on side for masala dosa or make the manchurians mild or have kothu parotta with less korma or mild spice and so on. That is odd compared to any other south Indian restaurant in the area.
The combination of the above makes the restaurant to be inflexible to the customers which is both strength and weakness of the place as it attracts a certain kind of crowd.
I may not visit this place again because I love to have many changes to my south Indian foods and a couple of the neighboring chettinadu restaurants cater to my whims better and the much needed satisfaction which I did not receive here.
I had the opportunity to dine at Anjappar recently and I’d like to share my thoughts about the experience. I ordered a variety of dishes including mutton bone soup, goat chukka varuval, goat biryani, and natukozhli biryani.
Let me start with the positives – the mutton bone soup was a delightful beginning to the meal. Its rich, hearty flavor instantly warmed me up. The goat chukka varuval was a burst of flavors and spices that truly delighted my taste buds. Equally impressive was the goat biryani, with tender meat and flavor.
However, the natukozhli biryani was a bit of a letdown. It seemed like a departure from the other wonderful dishes I had. The rice was some veg biryani rice and the fried chicken pieces seemed to dominate, but the true essence of a biryani was missing.
Overall, my experience at Anjappar was a mix of highs and lows. While the natukozhli biryani didn’t meet expectations, the mutton bone soup, goat chukka varuval, and goat biryani more than made up for it. I believe there’s potential for an even better dining experience if the restaurant refines their offerings. It’s a place worth revisiting for those standout dishes that make every meal special.
WORST Indian food we ever had.
Not worth a penny.
We ordered biryani and fried fish. Usually we enjoy spicy food but here the food was hot rather than spicy and did not have any flavor.
Server was not welcoming and the restaurant is not well lit.
The food taste was above average for the price paid. For indo- Chinese fried rice pls do not use frozen vegetables. I don’t expect to have kidneys beans and frozen corn . Pls pay attention to the Anjapar brand in chennai and do justice to it. Or at least keep the price nominal.
