Best WLM Reviews
The food here is amazing. I appreciated the selection of fresh and local ingredients. I like how they put everything on the same plate. It makes it feel cozy, like you’re eating at a family potluck. They also have several flavors of house-made sodas, which was a real treat. Everything came out real quick, too.
I’m taking off a star because I was disappointed to see that the kitchen is so open to the dining room. Maybe we were just sat at the worst spot, but I just expected more from a restaurant that’s on the upscale side (we paid over $100 for our dinner of 2, with only one drink each). And to get to the back dining room, you have to pretty much go through the kitchen to get there, it’s weird. It lowers the ambiance, and I’m sure the staff doesn’t appreciate costumers being able to watch (and hear) their every move, either.
A lot of parking available on the street!
The restaurant is always full during summer and fall season.
We were a group of 6 and it took 1h to get a table, but it totally worthed! Was delicious.
While waiting we ordered some beers/drinks and were chilling outside with an amazing lake view.
The food was delicious and lots of vegetarian options.
As entree we ordered the zucchini appetizer (insanely good).
We ordered fish and chips, dinner menu with fish of the day and wild rice or pasta, shrimp sandwiches, and some additional vegetarian options. Everything one of us enjoyed the food ordered.
The fish is insanely delicious.
Totally recommend the place.
My wife and I stopped here during a trip up the shore on a recommendation from a friend. The wait at 5:30pm on a Monday was about 20 minutes, but they allow you to grab a drink from the bar and sit outside in their "waiting room". We sat on the shore of lake superior and enjoyed a drink while we waited. We liked it so much we almost didn't want to leave when our table was ready!
Once we did get a table, we ordered the fish chowder and a few different variations of the fish of the day, which happened to be lake superior whitefish that day. The fish tacos were excellent, and the fried fish was a healthy portion and delicious. The service was fast and friendly.
We'll definitely be stopping here next time we are in town. We looking forward to waiting for a table again!
I really enjoyed the trout chowder. Quite flavorful with generous bites of trout. I also had a BLT sandwich which was very tasty. My husband had a house salad with a portion of grilled trout. This restaurant includes a 20% service charge. In addition, there was a $3.01 fee for using a credit card. Signs were posted when entering the restaurant as well as on the menu.
The fried white fish was fantastic, just wish it’d come with lemon. And the Swedish Creme, highly recommend. If you like maple syrup you’ll love the maple cream soda— I like maple syrup but don’t love it, so it was a bit too much for me. Overall the atmosphere is beautiful and the service outstanding, one of the fastest services I’ve ever had
4.5 stars, absolutely beautiful view and atmosphere. Wait time was about 30 minutes both times we went, but we could get a beer and sit in their beach chairs while we waited, which was quite relaxing. Food was good, but not all dishes were the same quality (fish chowder was delicious and on the lighter side for a chowder, wild rice side I heard good things about but found bland, key lime pie was excellent). I would have liked a more extensive beer list.
Beautiful atmosphere, highly recommend if you’re in Grand Marais for dinner.
Fantastic. Food was amazing. Service was amazing. Atmosphere was amazing. We had a very large group, +10, and we were sat right away out on the deck and the server was on top of the drinks and appetizers right away. Everything we had was very good. Majority of our party had the fish of the day, white fish, grilled with pasta. Nobody in our group was disappointed by any of the food or experience. Would definitely recommend.
The fish and chips basket was fantastic. I got mine with the waffle fries, and my wife got regular chips. There was more than enough of the fries and chips to share. The coleslaw runs to the sweeter side, if that is what you prefer.
We also had the fish fritters appetizer, which was fine. We didn't care for the tarter sauce, but nothing really needed it.
Overall, I recommend this place for a casual meal. Also, we got seated at a table for 2 on a tiny deck between the main decks outside. That was a special little treat.
