Get your tickets early, no same day tickets. The experience was very entertaining. The prisoners are respectful, the prices are great and the art and furniture is amazing. They have great talent and shows. The rodeo is heart pounding and action packed. Recommend for everyone.
One of, if not the oldest, longest running prisons in the US has a rodeo? That has been talked about by news outlets? And it is reasonably priced? And is in the largest penitentiary in the state of Louisiana? And has great food for sale and goods made by the inmates? I can't believe I have not made the choice to come before. There were just so many interesting things to look at. And while I did not understand all that was going on, it was an amazing experience and one I hope to do again.
One of a kind experience! You must read the facts and history before attending as it is so interesting and sets the stage. Go early and shop the goods that the prisoners make. Many beautiful items and furniture so bring your truck or trailer. The rodeo is different than your typical rodeo but so entertaining! Be prepared with your patience pants on when leaving as it took us nearly 3 hours to get out of the parking lot and out of the one road leading to and from Angola. My suggestion would be to possibly shop after the rodeo for traffic to thin.
I recently had the pleasure of attending the Angola Prison Rodeo and Arts Festival, and it was an experience I'll never forget. Traveling from Houston, the drive to the rodeo was absolutely beautiful, with picturesque landscapes that set the perfect tone for the day.
Once we arrived, I was impressed by the atmosphere. The event was well-organized and provided a unique glimpse into the lives of the inmates who participate in the rodeo and showcase their artistic talents. It was heartening to see the positive changes and rehabilitation efforts taking place within the prison system.
The food was another highlight of our visit. It was not only delicious but also very affordable, which made the experience even more enjoyable. We tried a variety of dishes that truly captured the local flavors.
Overall, the Angola Prison Rodeo and Arts Festival is a remarkable event that combines entertainment, community spirit, and a chance to witness the transformative power of art and sport. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable experience!
Plan to spend the day and bring a trailer if you're interested in the 100's of unique crafts these guys have been working on all year. We took a truck but definitely needed a trailer. We had to just stop looking at the wares offered because we had no more room for exporting the 7 hours back home! There's tons of food offerings in a huge food court with a live prison band.
The rodeo was very entertaining and the music set the mood. The guys are tough, brave and have been working on this all year. Our 10 year old loved it and wants to go back next year!
We went to our assigned seats about an hour before the rodeo was supposed to start. We were glad we did because the ceremonies started 30-40 minutes ahead of schedule. So just keep that in mind. Check the arena seating BEFORE ordering tickets so you're in the shade. If you can get ahold of a rodeo program book ahead of time, it would be very helpful to make your visit enjoyable. Our rodeo was sold out!
Well organized event , the food was great and the rodeo was awesome. The arts and crafts event was super nice.
My family and I go every year in October. It is like a tradition to us already. Inmates get to sell some of the beautiful stuff they make, like the wooden rocking chairs. There is always live music also by the inmates and delicious food. If you have never been to an Angola Prison Rodeo, GO next year, you'll love it!!!
The rodeo was really interesting. The show was fun to watch except for them getting hurt. I wish the guys knew more about the livestock to prevent them from getting hurt so bad.
