Our pipes in our cabin froze (in December) and the team went above and beyond to correct the issue for us! They did everything possible to correct it, and they were super professional and nice when I first reported it, and they got on it ASAP and offered a discount for our inconvenience without me having to ask or complain. When the issue couldn’t be resolved in a timely manner, they gave us an upgrade in another cabin and comped our stay. The whole team was great and even though the situation sucked and inconvenienced us, they were obviously doing everything they could possibly do which included digging under the cabin, using heaters on the pipes, and a camera to diagnose the problem. This was our second stay here and we will absolutely be returning!
Very busy on the weekends. We stayed Saturday through Monday and Sunday night was much quieter and laid back. The constant parade of golf carts was a bit much. The people in the office were kind and helpful but the random workers in golf carts, outwardly rude. We did the deluxe tent sites and they were decently spread out and had water spigot and two electric outlets. The lake was nice as was the little pool and lazy river. No lifeguards at either but noticed several RV folks keeping an eye on the kids, which I appreciated. Caught some small bass and bluegill in the canal area. Overall we had a decent time. Fairly close to gas station and easy to find entrance.
The good: The price is decent, the waterfront sites are beautiful, and the staff is nice and will do what they can to make an issue right. It looks like it has a nice beach area, the fun inflatables on the lake, and nice pool. The staff trying to make it right is why I gave it 3 stars.
The bad: The seasonal campers. It is almost entirely seasonal campers, and it was PACKED. They do not like the people that come for the weekend AT ALL. The roads are a NARROW. We had a lot of issues getting into our site because a seasonal camper parked their car in the exact spot we needed to swing our truck to get into our site. The owners were not there to move it and not close when the office called them. It was either cut it too soon and end up super close to the trees on the door side of the camper, or cut it too late and not be in the site at all or back into a tree. Then you had the seasonal people coming around on their golf carts (and parking in the road) to watch and use you as entertainment and poke fun at you. We actually had one of them say they don't like weekenders because they are always asking them to move their cars so they can back into their site. This was after they said we needed to be over more and told them we couldn't because of the car. We ended up not staying because we could not get our camper positioned where it needed to be. They did offer us a different site, but it was in the sun up front by the road. My brother also had a site on the lake, and said if he wasn't on a corner in the road, they wouldn't have been able to get in to their site either. I have been pulling a camper for almost 20 years, and I've never had an issue like this. Our camper is only 31 feet tongue to bumper, and would have fit the site with no issues.
If they were to make a rule that the seasonal campers that leave their camper there all the time are not allowed to leave vehicles next to the road UNLESS they are there to move it, I would not recommend trying to camp here unless you have a small camper, or a class b/c drivable RV that can be maneuvered into a site more easily. As stated, the staff did what they could, and would have even towed the car if there was a tow truck available. The facilities looked nice with plenty of activities for the kids. I really want to like this KOA, but some things need to be addressed with the seasonal campers. Both with parking/availability to move their car, and their attitude toward weekenders. If the car had been a few feet toward their camper, I probably wouldn't have had an issue backing in.
Location is great. Activities were good.
WiFi didn’t work and there were some areas that could be used better.
We weee told when cooking the campground was sold to capacity but several sites were open.
Also, several seasonal campers told us the campground has declined the last couple years and continues to raise the cost with no improvement.
We had a great stay here in the Deluxe Cabin! We enjoyed the pool, it’s great for kids with maximum 4ft depth and lazy river. The lake access is very convenient where we could easily walk to it without getting lake water into our vehicle. The lake itself had a giant inflatable playground on it, which is probably better for teenagers but the kids still enjoyed it.
The cabin itself had a lot of nice touches to make our stay easier. There were hooks everywhere to hang up our wet clothes, plenty of towels and rags, and soap/shampoo/conditioner provided just like a hotel. There was a small electric range (not an oven, just the burners) which worked OK but took a long time to heat up. We tried to heat water on it but it took 20 min to boil it. Also, the water tastes funny in the cabin so we ended up buying some filtered water. Not a deal breaker. The largest downside was the WiFi didn’t work for the entirety of our 5 day stay and we didn’t have good cell service so it was hard to communicate with each other. Other than that, this is a great place for families and it has a lot to offer!
Great place to get away for the weekend from Chicago. The amenities are good for kids and I love that it's open year-round. My only small complaint is the golf cart traffic on the weekends during the summer.
First time staying at a campsite like this; 2 adults & 2 kids in a camping cabin. Overall we enjoyed it. The cabin was good for what it was. Just enough space: bathroom (no shower), charcoal grill outside. Wish the seal and latch on the door was better (a deadbolt would have been nice), but it worked and we never felt unsafe. Campground is nice: playgrounds, games, pool (dj Saturday night), lake...everything was accessible and we tried most things. Only complaint is the grounds felt crowded at times: roads are narrow and it was packed. I wouldn't say this was a quiet trip in nature, but still good to get out.
Stopped by the camp store to check in so we could check the place out. The Personal working was not friendly. She needed to hold my
husband's driver's license and it was 1 hour before closing. It was just the attitude she had when asking for it. That turned us off from wanting to stay there.
