Had a hankering for Mexican food, this place hit the spot. Totally recommend if you're in the area. There is extra parking in the back. Food was so good, I forgot to take a picture. The vegetarian menu looks so interesting with about six different items, maybe more.
Probably the most embarrassing $5 taco I’ve ever seen. To go order, asked for 3 tacos. Came back with 2. Skip breakfast here 1000%. My mind is blown, I’ve had breakfast tacos all over the city, this was easily the sorriest deal.
+1 star because I did not check the prices ahead of time and assumed $12 for 3 tacos was reasonable enough, only to find out that that was the price of 2 when I thought he got my order correct. Also, the the half an egg and 1/4 piece of bacon actually tasted decent.
The homemade tortillas are amazing and the salsa is hot. The chile relleno didn't come with sauce so don't think we will be going back. The food is temperature hot and fresh, but not as flavorful as other places. The beans and rice were bland. But the cheese they use is awesome and the queso might be the best in its class. Solid old school joint serving up tex mex classics.
Spectacular restaurant. The puffy tacos and enchiladas are so good. And the owners treat you like family. Be prepared for hugs.
Great experience! I ordered the cheese enchiladas, they were AMAZING! I wiped my plate out so fast my server thought I never got it! Haha. Oh and I recommend their lemonade, it's like a soft slushy. I will definitely be going back :)
Angie's is a great locally owned Austin success story. They have evolved over time from very humble beginnings to now a full fledged restaurant space on par with the best of 'em. I'm sure many of the recipes date back to authentic, home cooked meals, and there is still a care and authenticity which are visible and delectable as well. The salsa is *hot* and I like things hot. For $10, the "large" guacamole should have been twice the size that was served, but it was good. I don't get to Austin that much anymore, so my Mexican restaurant choices are very carefully considered.
Clean $$$ good customer service. Delicious homemade corn tortillas. Menudo was over cooked for me but it did have hominy, it has potential to be good. Might try again. Food was a bit on the cold side. Good coffee. I didn't care for the chorizo and bean taco. Chorizo is not cooked into the food, its layered. I did not like the barbacoa, tasted dirty. Chips and salsa have a great flavor. Will try again for better rating.
Not sure if we recommend, you might have to judge this one for yourself.
So if you are in Austin craving some good ol Mexican food, you should visit this place. We stopped on a whim and were not disappointed. The owner attended to us and added the extra personal touch. She let me sample the flour tortilla...mmm... too bad it was not breakfast because I'm sure they will be good in a taco. My wife loved the beef. I could not get enough of the salsa. The puffy style tacos are filling. If you stop by..provecho!
