Typical New Jersey diner. The food was lacking a bit of flavor but otherwise what you would expect. Fast friendly service.
Delicious food. Always come here every sat for lunch. The breakfast and cobb salad is great and the potato skins are superb. Service very friendly, fast, and they always remember you. Highly recommend! Good prices not to mention
TL:DR - Standard dive diner fare. Not great. Not that terrible. It's ... food?
It was probably a bad sign when I got to the empty parking lot to pick up my food from phoning in an order. It was probably a bad sign when I walked in and literally all the staff were sitting around. It was probably a bad sign when I was ignored. But I picked up my order, paid, and wondered how much I was charged because they didn't offer me a receipt.
I had ordered the pot roast dinner, which the person on the phone accepting my order knew absolutely nothing about. I had to guide them through which sides came with my meal. In the end, I got the pot roast dinner, baked potato, mixed vegetables, and seafood bisque. Checking my credit card statement later, I found out it was ~$18, so they must have added a tip for themselves, or the prices on the menu are inaccurate.
When I opened the container, I immediately thought they had mistakenly given me meatloaf, not pot roast. The "gravy" was red? What was probably beef was in slices? The menu talked about slow roasted, but in that case it should have broken apart with my fork - and it barely broke apart when I took a knife to it. The meat pieces were bland, firm, slices of beef. The gravy was glorified tomato sauce. This is not pot roast.
The mixed vegetables were fresh from the freezer, to the microwave, to me. They weren't slathered in garlic butter, which was a nice surprise. However, the mix was literally out of the freezer section of a grocery store. Fine, but I literally have better veggies in my own freezer.
The baked potato, foil and all, were plopped in the red gravy. After I rescued it from the crimson tide, it was arguably and regrettably the best part of the meal. Well cooked and came with plenty of butter on the side. It is so sad that it was the best part of the meal.
The "seafood" bisque was a weak, gelatinous, milky-pink mix of what might have been milk, "seafood" bits (read as: imitation everything), and a red pepper flake or two. It was kind of like eating penne ala vodka sauce with wobbly bits of fake crab in it. I would not be surprised if that is what it was.
All in all, disappointing. Yes, this is a diner. But also yes, their food should be better. Won't be back unless I'm looking for some drunk food, or literally have nowhere else to go.
So I order a bunch of food from here many times but this time I ordered takeout from the children's lunch and dinner menu. Says online everywhere "served with French fries, drink and dessert". When the food came it came without. When I called and complained they were like oh that's an outdated and couldn't get me the other food I complain some more he offers me fries. When I get there he gives them to me and then hands me their updated menu. I didn't feel like going back in there and making them all feel dumb and stupid. TL;DR they didn't give me everything I ordered and they handed me their menu that said that I was supposed to get what I ordered. But I didn't feel like making a scene.
The food was fantastic. I stopped by after a long weekend going home, ordered steak and eggs with a coffee. It has to be one of the best diners on the east coast! Ordered med rare & came out perfect!!
Unfortunately this place has gone down hill. Angelo's has been one of my favorite places to eat with the family, multiple times a month/birthdays/celebrations/anytime. Until this past week. I had 2 awful experiences that I was going to just let go, until the disrespect kept coming. I will not waste writing my 500 word complaint that I sent directly to the restaurant, to get a response with a thumbs up. However, the workers really need to learn RESPECT for each other and for their customers. The poor cooks are getting cursed at, the hostess is getting yelled at. The wait staff takes your order and disappears till its time for the check. What happened to people treating people like a person!
Must say....Had a great breakfast. Portions were huge where my husband and I could've shared and still had leftovers. Pancakes were huge and a big selection. Same for the french toast. The smell of coffee the minute you walk in for me was a good sign. Loved the service and the food. Must try for lunch as well. Way to go and I really wish you the best.
11/7 Went for breakfast today, the older waitress was not very welcoming, then she screwed up our order,ordered scrambled eggs and received fried eggs.So they went back and waited until they fixed it .
Also ordered blueberry waffles , but when she served them, she said they had no blueberries.Not very good at her job .
And the rest of the food was warm and not well done as requested. Usually the staff is friendly and efficient.
