I really like going to this location because it’s not too crowded even in the summer months and pretty quiet. It’s located nearby Schnucks and many restaurants make it a perfect spot for sweet treats after dinner or grocery shopping. Service has always been nice and fast. Andy’s custard is just so so good and super creamy. I used to buy their vanilla and chocolate gallons and added my own toppings during Covid times, but I have been going here more often last year. I usually just order the vanilla concrete with nutty toppings or the butter pecan concrete. Price is decent and I personally think it tastes better than Ted Drewes.
I visited from Seattle and I heard that frozen custard is a well known food in St. Louis. I heard of Ted Drewes and haven't tried that yet, but Andy's is very good and I would highly recommend. Their custards remind me of Dairy Queen Blizzards. I got the key lime pie flavor and it was amazing. You can definitely taste the key lime pie. If I come to St Louis again, I will definitely get some frozen custard again and this will be one of my top choices to visit.
What in the hell is wrong with Andy's in St Louis? I have now been twice and both times were horrible. I fell in love with this chain in Springfield, Missouri and have realized that it is horrible everywhere else but Springfield, Missouri.
I ordered mint Oreo! Check out the picture. Not so minty, eyyyy? It was basically a vanilla ice cream with random hints of mint every few bites. It was very disappointing!
Why didn't I just take it back to the store and ask them to make it better? Oh... That's because the line and the service was horrible. I waited about a half hour in the drive-thru lane to order my ice cream. I wasn't able to get out either because there was other cars behind me. You couldn't order until you got to the window. That means that you had to wait for the car to get to the window, make their order, have their order made, pay for their order, and then drive away. It took a ridiculous amount of time to get your ice cream!
One last thing, you pay a lot of money for premium ice cream. It's not cheap! But we pay it because we expect excellence. Look at the size of my ice cream! They couldn't even feel it to the top. I was overall very disappointed with my experience at this Andy's location. Something needs to change for this to get up to a standard that I'm used to at this wonderful ice cream chain. Stores like this are tainting the brand!
We pulled up and an outside attendant took our order. Now, I have to preface this review by saying, I go to Andy's A LOT! Sometimes everyday, sometimes 3 times a day...so I know a little about what I order, its cost and the container it is served in, because I only order 1 menu item and I order it the same way every time regardless of the Andy's location.
This evening, when I pulled up to the window and they gave me my total, it was $3 more than usual or expected. I handed them my debit card and asked if their prices went up. The young man told me the cost of a large concrete with added fruit was... I told him that I didn't order a concrete. I ordered a diy sundae. He immediately went to get the store mgr who immediately corrected the mistake. When they brought the finished product to the window, it was about 1/3 less than I have ever seen it. He tried to explain to me why but I have never been served my order and it was less than any amount before. Again, he went to get his mgr who came to the window and again explained to me since I ordered a large, because of the added fruit, they put it in this container for it all to fit. I told her that I order this item ALL the time and never had my cup NOT been filled to the top. We were very polite to one another but we were saying something different from each other. She immediately took the sundaes and told me she was more than happy to put more in them, asked me did I want more custard, fruit or both... I told her more custard would be fine. She filled them up to the brim, put lids on them and bagged them. She then said she wanted to refund my money because she felt so bad about the confusion about my order and the hassle it caused me. I told her I didn't want a refund, she corrected everything without hassle and I was very happy with her service. I added she had EXCELLENT customer service and I would be happy to post a review.
So, here it is! Andy's Frozen Custard on Dorsett Rd not only has an excellent product but exemplary customer service and I will be telling people about that experience for an example of what great customer service is!
Thank you to that manager!!!
For such chain restaurants, I always rate them based on their staff first, then the food. The staff in this branch are so kind, polite and quick. Really appreciate your hard word. We had a vanilla cone and chocolate sundae. Both were delicious
This location is very different from the location in Richmond Heights. I think they need to clean their ice cream machines a bit more. Just not as fresh as the other Andy's locations. The pecans are never warm and hot with that roasty taste like the Hanley location. The staff are friendly and I feel that is important to note because other places you are met with such rudness this day in age.
Saturday afternoon waited 45 minutes to order…no way to escape line. All parts of order varying degrees of not filled completely see pic. Not cheap. Ice cream fine.
The flavors are so crisp and harmonious with each other, and while the drive thru or walk up lines can sometimes be a little long, they do a great job moving along and getting people their food.
