Worked out fine for a one night stay. Price was reasonable (I dunno, I paid about $250 including taxes. Whoever paid $700 - I wouldn't be happy either at that price). Comfortable room that is well-designed. Clean and amenities are thoughtful. Appreciated room lighting, bathroom setup, ample closet, and free water, snacks and wifi. Rooftop setup is pleasant, although better for drinks than for food. Not an issue since food is literally ... everywhere. You have to be prepared for an urban entertainment district, but on a Wednesday night in October there was very little noise. Might be a different story on the weekend. All in all, more than fine for the price I paid.
It's a great hotel, lobby is clean and upscale. And check in is quick if you do the express online check-in, simply give them your ID and they whip up your keycards immediately. Nice.
This part of gas lamp is not nice however and it gets sketchy at night. But they have a nice presence with a couple valet staff standing in front of the doors.
Rooms are clean and enjoyable. The shower in the king was kinda cool. It's glass on two sides and basically sits in the middle of the room. The water in the shower takes like 3-4 minutes to warm up though.
The only serious complaint is the noise from the club Double Deuce on the corner. If you're on this side of the building (I was in 222) the music volume and bass strength makes it feel like it's in the room with you. They provide earplugs which does actually help. It was only on Thursday night and stopped when the club closed at 2AM.
Good location for center of city options. Room was small but efficient use of space. Rooftop was really nice and service good, just wish food had been a bit better. They've done a good job of soundproofing the rooms. Overall a good stay and would recommend.
The first night I was there I would give this service a zero. The guy at check-in was kind of standoffish and not very friendly. Then later when I called down to the desk no one answered. So I went downstairs and asked if I could get some feather free pillows. He seemed almost mad at me, and said housekeeping isn't here so it's going to take 'a while'. I guess I should have asked what that meant. I went back upstairs stayed up several hours and finally went to bed. Most hotels the front desk person will go in the back and grab me a couple pillows and hand them to me. When I called down the next day they were very nice and I got them relatively quickly.
The TV remote didn't work to switch inputs. Was stuck on the Chromecast page. Had to manually use buttons on the TV to change inputs to the TV channels. The rooms were a little weird but nice.
They gave me a couple free bottles of water everyday. Started out good with aquafina, halfway through the stay they started giving me Arrowhead, which is just awful. Kind of odd that you have to go to one end of the hall to get filtered water. And the opposite end of the hall to get ice, which is in prepacked bags and all frozen together. Location is okay, it's a hike from the convention center. But not that bad. Definitely walkable.
I stayed in a King Deluxe room and absolutely loved it! The shower window was a HIT! The hotel itself was really nice and I appreciated the complimentary reusable water bottles. The hotel is giving adults only and I’m here for it. I didn’t hear or see a kid the entire time I was there. The rooftop was also a great place to go and chill. I’d hands down recommend this place to anyone!
The Andaz is a great location with great rooms and a professional and friendly staff who welcome you on a daily basis. Excellent service! No one will walk by you without a friendly welcoming hello. Shout out to Junior for a very attentive, friendly quick service at the rooftop bar. It was a busy night and he served us with a smile and perfectly mastered drinks. Always a good time up on the rooftop!
I recently stayed at Andaz San Diego and unfortunately, it wasn't exactly the experience I had wished for. We decided to upgrade our room upon arrival, but on entering we stepped into a puddle in the bathroom and that was pretty gross. We then turned on the bathroom light and observed a leakage in the bathroom running down the floor with a brown puddle. Our call to the reception was not answered which forced us to clean our feet and grabbed all of our belongings back down to the hotel lobby. We were assisted by a different staff member, whom upon hearing our complaint quickly moved us to another room on the same floor. While the switch was hugely appreciated, there were other problems in this new room: The desk and mini-bar area were highly dusty, not exactly what one hopes for in a hotel of this quality. It gives the impression that cleanliness is not taken as seriously as it ought to be. We were then awakened at about 2 am to some extremely loud noise; presumably from music somewhere, because through the walls, we could feel the bass. This disrupted our sleep and really impacted our overall stay. I was expecting a much better experience, especially upgrading as I did; unfortunately, this turned out to be not great because of issues in cleanliness and noise. We love staying with Hyatt Hotels and have chosen Hyatt for most of our vacation stays. However, we will not likely be staying at Andaz San Diego in the future.
It was my first time in San Diego, and from the moment I walked in, the staff was very friendly and accommodating, to my surprise they offered wine upon check which was a great treat right before dinner. I recommend the steak house they have next door, delicious! The room was cozy, and a memorable stay ????????
