I was in the area for a work trip, and have made the rounds to just about every restaurant in the Whitewater area, and Anchors was one of my favorites. The food was decent and the service was adequate, but where Anchor's shines is its atmosphere and tap beer selection.
They had close to 30 selections of tap beers, including sours and craft IPAs which are tricky to find on tap. My group sat outside on their huge patio on the river, which was another plus since very few of the places around Whitewater had this amenity. I could easily see myself spending several hours just hanging out here and enjoying the view and brews.
I ordered a black and Bleu burger, which was pretty tasty, but when mixed with their sauces went from good to amazing! I loved that they had a wide variety of sauces at the table to experiment with and jazz up your meal. The only thing I could see being a problem especially during peak times is the service. While we definitely didn't have bad service, the waitress was pretty scarce, and I imagine if we had come during a peak time, our meal service would have taken twice as long. All things considered, service wasn't bad enough to justify docking a star, and I'll definitely come back if I'm in the area again.
Very pleasant to be in a restaurant where the chef knows how good his food is and the waitstaff doesn’t badger you asking is everything ok ???? well done also got to see the Dr. of Rock ????
Building atmosphere was great inside and out. But when it came to the service and food not so much. Food was bland had no flavor and was dry.
Had to remind waitress many times for a water of all things that was part of our original drink order. When we were finished took so long to get our receipt that we ended up leaving and asking the host for it.
This is actually 3.5 stars, but alas that's not an option.
There is NO PLACE quite like the Anchor in the area. It's huge. It's newly remodeled after a fire a couple years ago. It's on the Rock River. And the entertainment is AMAZING!
We love going for the bands (that play out on the water!) and the atmosphere. Staff is friendly but hit or miss on how good of a server they are/attention.
The reason it's not 5 star is the food. It's not terrible, but it's rarely great. We had onion straws which were great, but the nachos seemed like they were sitting for a bit before we got them and weren't good. We let the server know and he said he knew they were fresh and this was his first complaint. We were just letting him know so they could correct it for others. Again, you go for the atmosphere and music and fun, so we'll definitely be back.
Visited this place with friends and had a good time! The inside space is great, plus they have a lovely outdoor patio with music stage overlooking the river. They have an elaborate menu and all of the food my table ordered was pretty good (minus the poutine which was fairly pathetic and extremely over priced). They do all sorts of fun events like meat raffles and bingo and special breakfasts.

Rare, downgrade to a 1 star. YIKES! Second visit. First time was pretty good. Not so much this time…
Went here for an early dinner on Father’s Day. Sat down and server said he would be right there. The table next to us was seated. He took their order and never looked over. When he brought their appetizers he still never stopped by. We finally flagged down a server in training who took our drink order. Another 30 mins passed still nothing. The original server then took the other tables dinner order. At this point we noticed the table across from us was equally mad. The server then came by and asked us if we wanted menus (which he gave us at least 45 mins earlier). I explained that we’ve been waiting and he just walked away… We went to find a manager and a bar tender told us there isn’t really one… what was going on?? And it wasn’t even that busy. We were very polite given the situation and still nothing. Usually not this straight forward on a review but it is deserved. Never an apology or anything. After at least an hour the kids got restless so we finally gave up and left. Would have loved to hear what the manger had to say about the situation… if only I could have found one…
Bar was out of many cocktail choices and appetizers. Bloody Mary was thick forgot the alcohol and waitress forgot chaser. Table next to us told server their drinks were bad and after remake they left their drinks and went elsewhere for food. Very expensive and no atmosphere. Sorry but you need to do better!
