We visited Shell Lake as part of a bridal party with the wedding in Spooner. The staff members went out of their way to accommodate our large group size and the location was perfect for getting to the venue. I highly recommend this hotel. Thank you for making it such a great experience for us!
The place looked nice from the outside, but once we got inside it was a different story. I reserved a room because they advertised a pool, hot tub, and sauna. The first thing I noticed was the pool and hot tub were empty, I was very disappointed and thought I would go to the lounge for a drink. It was closed, and never opened up while I was there. Got to the room, the beds and pillows were very uncomfortable, the smoke detector was missing, the window was so fogged up I couldn't see through it, and the main door would latch unless I slammed it very hard. The breakfast was either cereal or a bagel. I was not impressed at all by standards of the place. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone.
The location is great! Check-in was fairly quick and easy. Staff was mostly friendly. The room was clean except for two different sticky spots on the carpet. The balcony was nice and the decor was very appropriate for an up-north hotel.
It was a huge disappointment that the pool and hot tub were down for maintenance and there was no discount offered. I feel terrible for the families that were staying there.
I did have a jacuzzi tub in my room, but I never found time to use it.
I think the mattress was the most uncomfortable and hard mattress I have ever slept on in my 41 years of life. We might as well have slept on the floor…it would’ve had a very similar feel. Neither my friend nor I were able to sleep well at all. The pillows were about as thick as a piece of paper in addition to the plywood-like mattress.
For over $400, for 2 nights, I expected way better than I got. I honestly don’t think I would ever stay here again.
We arrived an hour early then planned and they were going to charge us $20.00 extra because we arrived early even though the room was ready. But they waved it how nice of them. But Very disappointed the pool and hot tub where not working but I seen a review that said they have been down sense 2019 they told us there was someone coming to fix it tomorrow that would have been a Sunday so we know that was a lie and did they give us a discount because the pool and hot tub where not working no. It was our Anniversary get away we just wanted to relax by the pool and hot tub after our train ride, we ended up watching tv how disappointed we were. Would not go back all they think about is the money. Maybe if you would fix your pool and hot tub you might get better reviews and more customers.
I can't even describe how comfortable this hotel is. The owners are so appreciative of everyone who stays there. The rooms are spotless the TV channel options are better than any I've stayed at before. There is ac, wifi, very pleasant owners, and very clean comfortable rooms. It is right near the lake where all the locals and out of town tourists gather. In a very quaint town, this is the place to stay. Also one of the best pizza's I've ever had I got there!
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! PLACE HAS BED BUGS!!! OWNERS ARE HORRIBLE AND PLACE IS FILTHY! Owner is evil. Pool has been broken since 2019 and he promised us it would be fixed on July 2023 and was still broken. Place is famous for false advertising. We stayed there 2 nights and woke up with bites all over us. We had four kids that were bitten. Owner said he would give us our money back and then said no when he found out we were there for 2 days. He then called us cheaters and liars and that we were too cheap to pay for the room! The couple who run this pathetic excuse for a motel do not care who they cheat out of money and do not care for your well being. This place needs to be shut down as you can see from the rest of the deeply negative reviews!
Stayed for a few nights for a ATV trip. New owners are fixing the place up. Will be a 4 to 5 star in another year. Give them time.
Stayed there one night, will never do that again!!! Terrible place, musty room, terrible mattress, TV remote doesn't work, Horrific pillows, open the drapes and the windows are painted white so you can't see out. Take a shower, if you like showering in 8" of water, go right ahead! This would be a $50.00 hotel room anywhere else in the Country and I paid $220.00. This is a rip off of serious proportions. NO maintenance, the curb outside the hotel is overgrown with weeds as if the place is unoccupied! Breakfast consists of two types of cereal, both bins almost empty, some baby chocolate donuts, and some small muffins. Oh, there was a waffle maker there, but knowing how dirty the rest of the place is, not sure who would trust using the batter provided? Surely not me. Oh yes, and some overripe bananas too, ready to make some banana bread with. TV is so small that some of the program information provided does not show on the screen - tried watching some US Womens World Soccer and could not see the score because of the small TV. If the rooms were $50.00 to $60.00 per night, then maybe you would want to take a chance here, but I would still advise you to keep driving even at that price.
