I paid, through an online travel agency, for a room at ABVI in La Grande OR for the evening of October 1, 2024. When we attempted to check in, the front desk clerk refused to honor the reservation. We were not allowed to check in, and no room was provided.||||My husband and I instead stayed at Best Western, located across the street. ||||When the online travel agency followed up with ABVI regarding the disputed charge, someone representing the hotel chain falsely claimed we had checked in and stayed in “room 123”.||||I want to reiterate, we DID NOT receive a room, nor did we fill out or sign a registration form. ||||Hotels typically keep registration forms for 90 days for legal compliance. ABVI should have a copy of our registration form AND be willing to provide it in response to our dispute about the room charge.||||I believe ABVI has an obligation to return the funds received.
We stayed at this hotel last night, and while it’s a bit outdated, it has everything you might need for a convenient stay—washer and dryer, quick breakfast, a mini gym, and a computer station. The beds were okay, and overall, it was a comfortable experience. The only downside was being on the second floor and having to carry all our stuff, plus baby gear, up the stairs in several trips since there was no elevator.
Wonderful staff and location, but the hotel is very high priced and in desperate need of a total refresh. While the room was non-smoking, it wreaked of stale, cigarette smoke. All of my clothes had to be washed when I got home. I know it's not easy to get that smell out but might help with some fresh paint, new furniture & curtains, which were full of stains. Otherwise, it appeared to be clean and was stocked with everything one needs for a night.
Stayed here for 1 night in a non smoking room. The hotel did not smell or smoke. The room only had a light library smell. It was barely anything. The pool was clean, a little cold but it’s fine once you get into it. There’s a Wendy’s,McDonald’s, Dairy Queen and subway across the street. Along with a dollar tree down a block.
Don’t stay here unless you want to pay DOUBLE for your room. Upon check in the host charged my debit card twice. Then proceeded to tell me it was on my bank’s end. I called my bank and they said it was the hotel’s responsibility to issue a refund. Which was not done by the hotel, they said there was nothing they could do. Stayed for 2 nights and they did nothing to resolve the issue. Upon the 2nd night of our stay the toilet flooded. Asked the front desk to assist with the problem, and they said they didn’t have anyone there ti help, but we could use the bathrooms by the pool. None of us had showered for the day, so we had to either shower with toilet water all over the floor or go somewhere else to shower. Needless to say the overall experience was absolutely miserable and crazy expensive for low quality customers service. 10/10 would NOT recommend! Should have chosen to pitch a tent! The customer service would have been better for sure! Only stay if your expectations are very low, if not you WILL be disappointed!
Overall it was a good experience. When we got there at 10pm or so at night, our front desk person, Rain, I believe was her name, was awesome. She was dealing with a tough situation when we got there and while we were checking in another gentleman had an issue and I felt she handled all 3 situations with amazing grace, especially considering the rudness of the people. She was very specific when explaining all the info for our stay. We felt lucky they had a 1 room left that was pet friendly (other hotels in the area dont allow pets at all) and we had my daughters dog with us. The room was good, a little outdated/run down but clean, very comfortable beds and bedding and the ac worked great thankfully (record breaking highs that day). There is an exit right by the pet friendly rooms and they had a large grassy area for dogs and bags for dog pooh and a garbage right there which was awesome. They did not have ready to eat hot breakfast but they supplied easily heatable options. Big array of Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches, a bunch of different pastries and muffins, fruits, string cheese, oatmeal, cereals, juices, coffee (flavored coffee creamers available which is a big plus for me) teas, and more. overall great experience. We were checked in under my daughter's name I believe.
The place is clean, customer service is weak, door key system took multiple attempts to unlock and had to have cards rekeyed to make work. It is close enough to walk to several fast food places nearby. Breakfast is limited and fruit was poor. Wouldn’t allow earning points unless reservation was made through internet
One of the best Americas best value hotel I ever stayed.
Front desk personnel was very friendly.
Bed was comfortable and room was clean.
