Best WLM Reviews

My husband and I, along with our 2 dogs, were traveling to Onawa, IA. We booked a room in Missouri Valley because there were no rooms available in Onawa and we picked this hotel because it said that it was pet friendly. We even booked the room marked pet friendly. Once we arrived we were told we were not allowed to stay here because 1 of our dogs looked like she exceeded the 50 lb weight limit. DO NOT ADVERTISE THAT YOU ARE PET FRIENDLY IF YOU DONT ADVERTISE YOU HAVE A WEIGHT LIMIT. Once the very VERY rude man working said he didn't have a scale and couldn't prove that our dog was over 50 pounds he decided we could stay. I gave him my ID, we just moved to FL but my ID still shows Onawa, he looked at me and said "well can't you just stay in your house"? Like, why does where I live matter to your hotel or staff? If I live in Missouri Valley and want to stay at the hotel, I can. The man working made me write down my new address in FL and went to his computer to confirm that it was an actual address before giving me my room. American Best Value Inn, do better! It's 2024, either allow pets or don't but having pet owners jump through hoops just to spend the night is absolutely ridiculous. I will not be staying here again. I will sleep in my car with my dogs before giving you a dime of my money again!
The water pump started to go out in our truck on a Saturday while traveling home to Montana and we could not get in for repairs until Monday. We had a 4 night stay here which was very pleasant. The room was clean and smelled like fresh laundry and the beds were very comfortable. We had fresh coffee and a nice breakfast every morning. All of the staff were extremely friendly and made sure that we had everything that we needed and gave us good food recommendations. A very special thank you to the manager who went above and beyond for us. You are all very much appreciated. THANK YOU!
Let's start with the nightly price 95$ plus tax was what I was told by the guy at the front desk. And was extremely rude when I came in. Found it on a different website for half that price. Asked to check in, not even a full hour early was told no, not a big deal if we didn't drive for hours. The hotel, in general, smells musty, booked 2 queen beds got 2 full from 4/28/1997. The refrigerator stopped working on night 1, and the ac/heater worked a bit hot water works. Dogs in the building that barked all night, lady would hit the wall all night that was next to us. Called the front desk and got nothing in response. Had to stay somewhere else, and they didn't even give us a refund. Internet doesn't work. DONT STAY HERE
Positive: Super clean and comfortable. Decent breakfast and great coffee Quiet and again really clean! Negative: The guy that checked me in late at night gave me the creeps. Just seemed sketchy and harsh. Would holler questions to me rather than step to The glass and talk to me. I stayed several nights and will be staying more as work is increasing. Negative: ""
Expectation needs to be set at 2 Star hotel. That means the basics have to be good, but also acknowledge that there's a reason the price is half that of the bigger ones.
The front desk service was great. Friendly checking on and checking out. There were also no bugs. Didn't see any accumulating around the outer doors or in any corners. Finally, it felt safe which is key when you're in these darker, off the highway places. The hallway was brightly lit the entire time and we didn't see anyone walking around or loitering.
With the basics covered, we have to go over the rest. The beds seemed old. Soft in a broken kinda way. The ones where you can feel the springs. The shower was rickety but the water was hot. Towels definitely need a refresh, they hurt. Carpet was fine but you can see cracks in the caulk in most places.
AC works and we didn't bother with the tiny TV. Overall, we didn't make it to Omaha headed south and this one worked well for us.
Positive: This particular front desk lady is always nice! Negative: There was a nasty smell to the room and a constant tapping noise all night. Negative: ""
The level of clean is refreshing. And sanitized.
Staff is courteous and friendly.
Breakfast area is sanitized. Plenty of parking.
Clean hotel and the best part for us is they are pet friendly! We decided to take a trip to Iowa with our dogs and as you can imagine it is hard to find a decent quality hotel that will allow pets. I was concerned about our stay after reading other reviews but we decided to book anyways and I am so glad we did. The room was clean and very spacious! The bed was comfy and was exactly what we needed for our stay. The TV was not top quality but there was a decent variety of channels and worked for our needs - it did have most of the popular channels. The GM was so sweet and helpful and so was the rest of the staff! Thank you for accommodating us and our pups!
