I enjoy going to the American Lake clinic, I have only had positive experiences at the clinic.
I have been receiving medical care for years at the clinic. Great staff can’t say enough good things about them. Plus everything is there I don’t have to travel all over town to get any procedures accomplished.
I appreciate the VA Doctors, Nurses and Technicians for providing good quality medical care.
The staff here are great. I’m really surprised at the excellent level of care we get at the VA in Washington. My father and father-in-law suffered with bad VA care two decades ago in N.C. and AZ. Washington has learned and they are a paradigm shift better. I’m grateful for my care and the professionals that give it.
Feel that they are trying now, more than before for two decades downward spiral I believe we have been going through. Now have a good doctor there. A more cooperative association with my social worker. That is the good news. The harder things are still there. Lack of quality medical testing equipment is a problem for many. Lack of timely care and enough time to address all medical issues,it’s still so inadequate for my needs as a 100% service connected retired disabled veteran. I perceive a lack of choice of providers. I believe having choice in medical equipment would work better for all involved. It would be better if we could have a choice of medications that would better solve an issues like allergies, which I have, my allergy medication doesn’t work very long. My doctor, if I’m understanding her correctly, can not do better, I’ve had better medications throughout most of my years in the VA system. Not now though. I don’t want to push it but I need better control over my allergies than I’m able to get. Must soon set up a civilian doctor.
Over 31/2 years as an homeless veteran on top of the medical system have left me shaking and scared at times. I believe for the last 20 years I’ve actually received poor care at several VA facilities in Colorado and here in Washington State. Must include Oregon as well. My claims attorney told me that written statements in my medical records were false, some statements like I’m incompetent were written in the records. I’m not by the way. I believe that was . Someone else wrote I was Bipolar. I’m also not that. No one said these things to my face. So without testing or appropriate assessments those statements have been there for over a decade in my medical records. In the records department for the 4th or 5th time I’ve handed over my most recent mental health diagnosis to the VA from a qualified Doctor. The can’t seem to get this in the records system. Glad I carry it with me.
Okay. Long story of over 35 years in the VA system made short. You have to be persistent . I hope better days are coming for us all in the future with VA.
This facility uses a system of deception to deny care to veterans. Be prepared to just be transferred to someone else to "help you" and to then be disconnected from the call. As a veteran who has been to a few different VA facilities, this is hands down the worst VA I have ever seen. This place needs to be investigated, and I will be writing to my congressman.
American Lake veteran Medical Hospital Tacoma Wa. Was a great place for my father to have the best care for him all the nurses staff was just wonderful and great even the grounds of the hospital was beautiful with all the trees and even the deer on the property and overlooking the lake to me it was a peaceful place I visited the VA at Christmas time for five years up until my father's death ???? on March 23rd 1993.... even one of the nurses thought my dad was handsome from the pictures back from the Korean War.... now my dad lays to rest in the new Tacoma Cemetery military US Army ???????? section. If you have a soldier this is the VA Hospital you want them to be in.... thank you very much American Lake veteran Medical Center....
Had my initial appointment cancelled with no warning. Took weeks to get someone on the phone to have it rescheduled as a telehealth appointment. Then the day of the appointment no one showed up so I wasted over an hour and a half on the video call. When I called the office after waiting 20 minutes they were surprised at the fact that I had an appointment scheduled....I had to wait 2 months for this appointment...not a great experience so far.
UPDATE: I wish I could say there were no more problems but it has only gotten worse. I have a doctor who doesn’t take anything I say seriously. I finally got them to refer me out to a PT but then community care said they had scheduled me. I got a confirmation text and mail saying when and where but when I showed up the clinic had no paperwork for me. Extremely disappointed in the quality of care from this VA clinic.
If the intention was to make veterans feel completely abandoned by the VA healthcare system then American lake is a real winner.
Do not expect to reach an actual person. Do not expect to get a call back. Do not expect any sort of professionalism or courtesies. If you need real help, call Seattle. American lake is a joke.
Amazing staff that is intelligent, friendly, and persevering. I really feel that they listen wonderfully, and act promptly when they find out anything new.
Trying to call is pretty difficult, but overall it’s a great little hospital that tries its best to use what they have with as many patients as they have to provide for.
I truly appreciate American Lake VA ????????
