I am deeply disappointed with the level of care my daughter received at AFC. On October 12th, I took her in due to illness and was told by Dr. Joseph Payne that she had a UTI. He prescribed a 7-day course of Sulfameth-Trimeth, and we expected her to improve. Instead, she felt worse four days later, with the same symptoms. We returned on October 16th, and Pamela Sturgill informed us that the UTI was still present. It turned out that neither Dr. Payne nor nurse Sherrie had sent her urine sample to the lab for culture, meaning we didn’t know what type of bacteria or yeast was causing the infection or if the prescribed medication was effective. Dr. Sturgill prescribed a new antibiotic, cephalexin, assuring us that this time they would send the sample to the lab and that we’d have results within 48 hours. However, after repeatedly calling, I was told the results weren’t back. Despite my concern about the delayed culture, I was assured by a staff member that the sample had been sent. Then, the following week, I was finally told that they hadn’t sent it due to being out of supplies. No one informed me or offered to have my daughter come back in to provide a new sample. I returned again on October 21st for yet another sample, and today, October 25th, we are still waiting for results. I have called several times, and each time I'm told they have no update. When I requested the lab’s phone number to follow up myself, the nurse claimed they didn’t have it, which I find hard to believe. I have experience working in clinics, and following up with labs is routine practice if results are delayed. The nurse then promised to call me back with an update, which hasn’t happened. I am reporting AFC to the medical board for negligence. I am incredibly concerned about the impact this delay, and oversight may have on my daughter’s health. If her condition worsens because of their lack of care, I will be pursuing legal action.
*Updated review (12/05/2024): I am appalled by the negligence and dishonesty at AFC. Despite repeated failures in care and communication, I am now being billed $275 for visits where services were mishandled or not rendered. As a self-pay patient, I confirmed charges before each visit and paid accordingly. On the 3rd. visit, I was told it would be free due to the previous mishandling. Upon arrival, we waited over an hour in the lobby just for a simple urine sample drop-off. My daughter was needing to pee and when I asked for the sample container so my daughter could provide the sample, I was told to sit and wait. After another 15 minutes, we were finally called to use the restroom. Then, we were placed in an exam room and waited another 25 minutes. The provider, Pamela Sturgill, eventually opened the door but didn’t enter the room. From there, from the doorway, in a dismissive and frustrated tone, she stated, “I will send the sample for a culture, and if it comes back with something, I’ll refer her to a specialist.” She made no effort to examine my daughter, who at the time had a low-grade fever and ongoing discomfort. She then left the room doorway without addressing any of my concerns. She did not properly examine my daughter or address her ongoing symptoms. She merely spoke from the doorway without offering any real medical advice or solution. Despite her promise, the third urine sample was never sent for a culture. I only learned of this failure after persistently calling for results and being met with excuses.
AFC: I am PUBLICILY REQUESTING you an ITEMIZED EXPLANATION of the $275 CHARGES either BY MAIL or EMAIL. There is NO NEED FOR A PHONE CALL, I do not trust verbal communication with your staff, as I have been misled multiple times during this process. Don't cite HIPAA as an excuse to deflect responsibilities and to avoid addressing this matter. I expect a written response from you with the requested details or with corrections.
To other patients: Be sure that you and your insurance companies are NOT being charged for services that were never performed, uncomplete labs or for mistakes made by AFC.
12/10 from beginning to end. The front desk staff were kind and accommodating. The Medical Assistant, Ms. Sherri, couldn’t have been more compassionate, and her bedside manner was top shelf.
Pam is perfect. There was no rush or hurry to get me in and out, she spoke with me and explained my circumstances and the treatment she recommended at a level that gave me nothing but confidence I would be better as soon as possible.
I would drive an extra hour just to be seen at this AFC, by this staff any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Trust me… this is who you what taking caring of you.
My family and I have been using American Family Urgent Care for years and have always had wonderful experiences and wonderful care. The team are all so very compassionate and professional. This past Sunday, December 15th, I had my best experience yet. I was so very sick with the flu. I couldn’t even sit up straight because my fever was so high and I hurt all over. They allowed me to wait in the car and called us in when they were ready to put me in a room. Once in a room, they dimmed the lights and allowed me to lie down, even offered me a blanket. Pam, the PA was great, she listened and gave me the meds I needed to help me feel as best as I could as soon as possible. Sherri was the real star. She was so very empathetic and helpful. I can never thank them enough!
AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!! Waited in line for over 15 mins for anyone to even come to the desk. The male (older white man) I’m not even sure if he’s a nurse(found out he’s an x-ray technician) that took my vitals, done the swabs(he didn’t have a clue), and never spoke a word was the worst person I’ve ever encountered here. The last couple times I’ve been here it’s gotten worse and worse!! I understand a wait, it’s busy and everyone is getting sick, but when you wait for almost 4 hours for them to tell you everything was fine and you have an ear infection is absolutely stupid!! They told me my strep test was negative and I informed them they hadn’t done a strep test!! What about the flu and covid?!?! He said oh they was negative too, like seriously?!?! My daughter has pneumonia, they didn’t even do a chest x-ray to see if it was pneumonia!! This place is an absolute joke!! They need to be shut down!!
This is the best clinic I have been to thus far. Very friendly, very caring and very fast. They listen to you and go above and beyond with their care. Thank you guys! Really appreciate you.
I recently visited this place around 2 weeks ago because I was feeling ill and when I got seen I was told I was going to get swabbed for strep and covid well instead of getting swabbed for strep I got swabbed for covid and flu. I knew I was not feeling myself and they came back with oh it is just a sinus infection when I told them my symtoms of my nose bleeding constatly when I blew it and sore throat. They sent me home with Amoxicillan I ended up taking all of them like it says too and I ended up getting worse. As of Dec 18th I ended up going back to AFC because they were the only urgent care to take my insurance and my primary care doctor was out of town and I needed to be seen once again for worse symptoms since Sunday. Well I walked in at 4 pm I ended up sitting there for 45 mins because they could not get my insurance card to go through knowing I was just there not even 2 weeks ago. They were trying to get me to pay $180 out of pocket I said" HECK NO I HAVE INSURANCE FOR A REASON" they even seen where I was there 2 weeks ago in the system so why didnt they just let me be seen and bill me later? Well I ended up getting into my primary care doctor because I was barely able to talk so they seen me yesterday morning with some other doctor I ended up testing for strep so techniaclly I had it all week and if something happened to me badly it would have been on this urgent care for denying my care. Come to find out my insurance card was not the issue it was my insurance company with their server. I would understand if I never been there before but since I was just there not even 2 weeks ago why couldnt they just let me be seen and bill me? I WILL NEVER BE BACK TO THIS PLACE AGAIN!!! They are very rude staff besides the doctor I seen I think her name was Pam I cant remember but the lady who swabbed me was like trying to stick it all the way up my nose and they were just not friendly to me. When I get my bill I will be contacting HR about it because as a patient I SHOULD HAVE NOT BEEN TREATED POORLY. AFC do better before you get shut down due to poorly staff behavior
My visit was thorough and fast. Everyone was diligent and professional and I saw a lot of people. The names were Sherrie, Tammie, Lisa the nurse, Casey the NP and Christalyn. Each of them was cordial and had great attention to detail. Thank you.
Scheduled an appointment for a painful, swollen ear. The staff, except for a young blond receptionist who was quite pleasant, were incredibly rude. She seemed like a deer in the headlights. Zero friendliness, common courtesy, or professionalism. The front office manager, I am guessing, was so rude and impatient for no reason--there were two people in the whole waiting room. The medical assistant did not explain what she was doing, jabbed a thermometer into my mouth, and behaved with the same rudeness, impatience, and complete lack of respect. The doctor was cordial but rushed me in and out like there was a fire in the building. I would tell people to avoid this place, would not recommend it, and will not ever come back. Something tells me the staff would be just fine with hearing this, as they did not display one iota of care for people.
