Best WLM Reviews

I have been going here for a few years and have never had a problem until recently. I have had 3 pairs of my kids glasses crack on the bottom side of where the lenses sit. The first pair that did it we have had for a while but my son is very good with his glasses and we were able to just get him new ones. My daughter on the other hand didn’t even have her glasses for 48 hours before they cracked in a very unfixable spot. I have tried calling multiple times and nobody ever answers. I don’t use insurance to purchase glasses and use my hard earned money. I also live almost an hour away from this store ( which is the the closest for me) so I can’t just go there in person either. I would not suggest using this place for glasses as they are not worth the money you spend on them!
Review from a satisfied customer on the spectrum:
It's no secret that health care and doctors in this country are just not the best, especially at corporations. The only places I've ever really gone to get fitted for contacts were WalMart & Target.
I can already hear you guys reading this and going "Well yeah that was a mistake" but here's the thing, I assume that quality can change, maybe they won't be as nice or attentive, but I always assumed that they would at the very least, do the very basic requirements of their job, like making sure the glasses and contacts they are prescribing actually fit and work.
No one ever examined the way the contacts sat on my eye. No one ever really asked me specific questions (which is what I require) about their comfort.
And how is the comfort?
They're great.
How was I supposed to know??? Autistics live our entire lives in constant mild discomfort. "comfort" is an extremely relative term to us, I didn't know you weren't' supposed to feel contacts at ALL.
I didn't know they weren't supposed to come loose and get lost in upper your eyelid if you rubbed your eyes too hard.
I just didn't know.
I went to America's Best recently, which isn't exactly swanky. They do everything remote now, so you get seen by a tech, and there's a big TV in front of you, and the doctor video calls in and looks at pictures the tech took of your eyes and then they do the "better or worse" thing.
They also require you to wear new contacts for a week, then come back so they can examine the fit before they prescribe you a supply of them.
I just assumed it was a way for them to bill my insurance again. I'm so jaded.
So the doctor looked at my eyes after a week of wearing the contacts and said "yeah, those don't fit. I'd like to order you a new base curve, yours are sitting too high on your eye"
So then I had to get this new contact in, which they don't carry in stores. So I had to wait even longer for my contact supply.
I finally got the new contacts and put them in yesterday or the day before, and the difference was immediate and extreme.
1: I don't feel them at all. I used to be able to feel the edges ever so slightly, I think the bottom of the contact touched my bottom eyelid, which is also why rubbing my eyes made it come loose.
2: They do not come loose when I rub my eyes now.
3: I didn't realize how much peripheral vision I was missing. I spent an entire day adjusting to these w/ double vision just because each eye was SEEING more than it was used to seeing.
Oh by the way, after the checkup exam of the contact fit I went to the counter to pay my copay and there wasn't one. They don't charge (you OR insurance) for checking fit.
I wanted to post this to thank everyone at AB from the depths of my soul. I know this is such a small thing in the big picture, but it's going to make a huge difference in my quality of life.
I had a 12:15pm appointment, I walked in at 12:10pm for them to tell me they are running over an hour and a half behind. When I asked why didn't they call me, they said "corporate won't let us." The one woman responded with "true story". Very professional..... I said I can come back, they said they would call me if they got caught up and when they are ready for me. I walked back in at 1:15 just to make sure they didn't catch up and I didn't want THEM to be waiting. The woman came up to the front and said can I come back at 2:45? I was quite puzzled because my appointment was at 12:15 and was told an hour and a half, now I am being told ANOTHER hour and a half, and AGAIN they didn't call me. She said they would get me in right after lunch. Must be nice, they still get a lunch after I used my lunch hour up waiting on them. This is UNACCEPTABLE to allow people to wait without any communication. I hope this place closes down.
UPDATE: Their automated reply is for me to contact corporate. You think I didn't already do that???? Of course I did. I'm no dog chasing it's tail. I'll make it simple, shell out the extra money for a proper professional exam and contacts elsewhere and NEVER EVER go back to that INCOMPETENT, RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL place. Save your $ and go ANYWHERE than than America's Best in Vestal. I'm 60 years old and had an exam in March. Magically my 60 year old eyes improved a LOT and the virtual doctor changed my contact rx from 3.25 to 2.75, with NO astigmatism because which I've always had. When I asked for an explanation they just said "Your eyes got better" I've had nothing but stress in my eyes since. I called to request a reevaluation and to revert to a lens with a mutifocal BUT NO ONE CALLS BACK. I'm on a disability income and now I have to shell out money for another exam elsewhere. THEY ARE THE WORST!!!!!!
76 YO Senior with severe mobility issues, Made appointment online and followed up with phone call, only upon my arrival for my appointment was I informed that this location (Town Center Mall Vestal NY) DOES NOT have an eye doctor on staff and has NOT had one for over 2 years. Thus my (QUALITY) eye exam could ONLY be performed virtually, further this exam by it's very nature would/could NOT include Dilation and thus would/could NOT provide a diabetic eye exam. I was offered an appointment at their Ithaca NY location multiple miles distant. Had I been told of these details online &/or follow-up phone call I would NOT have made this appointment and therefore avoiding the complete utter waste of my time. BEWARE EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!!!
Just walked in for my 12:30 “appointment” (which I received 4 texts for confirming the time). The one worker was immediately rude and said just “no” LOL! And then “I think that was for 12”. Nope. I have the texts as proof. Another girl called me over to her desk, said she couldn’t find me and didn’t acknowledge me when I went to show her the texts proving the time but was able to find my appointment after “refreshing” and then informed me that they were behind due to only having one tech. Said there were 4 people in front of me. I asked how long that would take and she said an hour each. That’s 4 hours!!! I walked out. Extremely unprofessional and RUDE. At least have the decency to warn me on the phone when making the appointment about the possible wait times when I specifically mentioned having another appointment at 3:30 and you said that time would work, or be polite when I walk in for my scheduled appointment. This place needs better employees, to learn how to not over schedule, or just close down if you can’t make the appointments you confirm happen.
First time at America's best and I'll never go back. In fact, I left when I was sitting in the waiting room and never did any testing or exam.
This woman (who apparently is an exam tech) comes out of an exam room after finishing up with a patient and takes a hit off her vape and she's blowing the smoke out as she's coming towards the waiting room. Like, what!?! This is a healthcare facility, number 1. Number 2, vaping/smoking, etc is ILLEGAL indoors in the state of New York. My mind was just blown at how unprofessional and disgusting this place was.
Picked up my glasses. Everything is blurry. She told me I could only use the center of my lense. If I move my head everything is a big blob. Used my insurance which now I will have to pay out of pocket for a new exam as my insurance only pays ebery 2 years! Worst expierence! My 6 year old pocketprescription works better!
