Best WLM Reviews

An amazing experience! This is such a great place to try so many delicious options of Balkanese cuisine for the single price. I highly recommend this experience, as we had so many great dishes and the service was wonderful. The food was quick to come out to the table, and the server was always close by and checked on us often to put in new dishes. There are three floors and the only extremely minor complaint I would have is that the third floor does not have the same vibe as the other two floors (you go through the other floors on your way to the third). It doesn't feel quite as nice. However, we didn't have reservations, so that might be the overflow area for those who are walk ups. Not a big thing, but maybe put in a reservation before you go?
Ambar had a really nice outdoor seating area that allowed for us to enjoy the outdoors while still staying cooler with some shade and fans. It even has lights that come on at night that really make it a fun ambiance.
The food was delicious! We loved all the tapas style foods that are from the Balkan area! The lamb lasagna was amazing! The shrimp and salmon were also tasty! The vegetables we had were delicious but the carrots were definitely the best. The raspberry cake was moist and definitely had a raspberry taste. The baklava was well made but slightly dry. The ice cream helps with this and really adds to the dish.
The service was great! They made sure our waters were always full and they brought out food quickly. The plates were taken away quickly so the table wasn’t crowded since it was a small table.
Overall highly recommend and would go back again!
Lunch ayce is probably the best deal especially if you like Mediterranean food and flavors. We tried quite a few different dishes and my favorite was lamb medallions and beet salad. I personally like tapas style and this was a great experience, server Elvin (I hope I spelled it right) was very friendly!
Went here on a recommend from family. Atmosphere: warm, friendly hostess, masculine wood farm doors. Seating booths and tables. Has both all you can eat with a large variety of small dishes and a la carte. Server was friendly at first, but when we didn't do the all you can eat, it seemed he was disappointed. Left the menu on the table despite ordering, when asked for a dessert menu brought the menu again but without any desserts listed and failed to give a receipt despite being asked. Had the cheese pie which was layers of Phyllo pastry with layers of cheese, not heavy but came with a spicy sauce- thus be careful. My foodmate had lamb lasagna: well spiced, tasty. Had the drunken mussels which i thought was flambeed at the table, not he case. Had salt capers and creamy sauce, well balanced, but needs either vegetables or pasta to make it an entree. Cost: $16 mussels, lamb lasagna $25 ish entrees, cheese pie $14. Overall: Food is tasty, but reconsider if you are not doing the all you can eat.
The food at Ambar is excellent! I especially love the little dips you can get- particularly the eggplant one. This is a great place to bring out of town family and have a large gathering (just make sure to make a reservation beforehand). The sheer volume of tapas you can order is great and gives you a little bit of everything.
Definitely understand the hype around this place. Good food and a good price for all-you-can-eat. We thought we were going for lunch, but it ended up being a brunch menu on Sunday at 1:15pm which was a little disappointing as there were more unique dishes to try for lunch instead of breakfast. The place was very full and closed in; they’ve done a great job making it feel comfortable, but it can be hard to hear if you’re seated next to a loud table. The unlimited drink option only included alcoholic drinks and was only worth it to us as we sat near the bar/server’s station. If we were farther from them it would have been harder to ask for refills as they are busy running out all the food. The plates are small plates, a single slider, a two egg omelette, a quarter of a Belgian waffle. So if multiple people want to try the same item, order two to split. Overall, very good food. We ate way too much and would probably come back next time we’re in town.
From brunch to happy hour to dinner, Ambar has it all.
My personal recommendation is to go with a group of friends and do the all-you-can eat option for any meal (brunch, lunch, dinner). The favorite is the pita platter with all the different dips!
If you'd like, the add-on for drinks is worth it if you are into bottomless drinks as well.
The happy hour deals are pretty great too!
The decor and atmosphere are unique (a little loud if you dine indoors), but otherwise pleasant.
The only complaint that I have is that during bottomless brunch, the wait staff was a little slow on the mimosa refills.
My go-to spot in DC! Every dish is nicely presented and flavorful, and the AYCE-style really allows us to try as many dishes as possible, as they are adequately sized for sharing without overfilling. I like almost every dish, but the seafood section particularly stands out for me. We went for lunch during the week so it was not crowded, but I have been here during the weekend and it's usually packed. Will definitely come back here on my future DC visits!
