Best WLM Reviews

The rooms are indeed simple and may not be up to today's standard. However, the beds are super comfy and honestly, you stay there for other reasons: The hotel offers price-wise a great deal and is perfectly located when you want to visit the Death Valley NP. The staff is very welcoming and lastly, its history and especially the eerie atmosphere gives you the adventure to stay in an allegedly haunted house. You might feel a certain presence in there and suddenly smell lilacs out of nowhere.
One of the best accommodations in my life. A simple, historic, 100-year-old hotel. The spirit of Martha Becket is still present. If someone expects luxury, they should look elsewhere. If someone appreciates the importance of history, is looking for a spiritual place and knows the story of Martha Becket – this place is a must for them. Those who do not know the story of Martha Becket – should read it. A wonderful, spiritual woman whose dream was to dance. Visiting Marta's opera, being able to go inside, see her paintings (also located in the hotel, in the rooms) – an amazing experience. I will definitely be back there!
Positive: The story of previous proprietor, Marta Becket. Kudos to her for creating a space to do what she loved. Kudos also to the group that is attempting rehabilitation of this storied property. Negative: The sulphuros smell in the hallways and common areas. Thankfully the room did not suffer from the same smell as that would have tainted our experience, to be sure.
Hindsight is always 20/20, yeah? I should have stayed here and not in furnace creek. I would say it's got great curb appeal. But what curb? Fine, I'll curb the dad jokes.
Next time I roll through here, I'll be sure to go through when there is a show at the opera house.
The staff are incredibly friendly and willing to answer questions, lead guests through tours, and offer help whenever necessary. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere which has lead to a limited income and thus limited renovations. However the hotel smells nice, everything is clean, and the rooms are as unique as the hotel itself. It’s worth a visit!
Amargosa is your best bet for a good nights sleep in the middle of the Death Valley. But be sure to bring all the water you plan on drinking. We were road tripping from North Carolina to here. This was our 6th destination in our trip. They were able to accommodate our late arrival time 1am - great! Beds slept great and the heat worked great. Lots of history and charm here. But getting down to the nitty gritty is where it takes a turn. You’re greeted with quite a potent aroma indoors, uneven floors, missing tiles, patched up walls & ceilings. The room did not smell too strong since they do thoroughly clean it. Water from here is crystal clear but leaves a slight slippery feeling to your skin. Bring your own drinking water for consumption and brushing your teeth. We were able to capture incredible star photography at night, and stunning landscape photography during the day. This is your resting place/space if you’re here visiting Death Valley.
The lady who works in the front desk was so polite letting us see around we did not book a room but we just want to experience the history of this place and we hope Lord willing will book a room just to have more experience but thank you so much to the lady letting us experience in see the history behind this wonderful Opera House hotel I'm so glad that this place is still running can't wait for my husband and I to book a room. ❤️
This was one of the worst places we ever stayed in. The carpets stank, the room was not cleaned properly, could see dust everywhere. The woman receptionist was horrible to me when I poured cold water into my water bottles, she told me off as said that you only use cups. But they also say to run the water for 15 mins to get hot water. Sounds contradictory. We only wanted to fill out water bottles to hydrate ourselves for the day. How do you expect us to get water when there’s no shop nearby. ||The 100 year old excuse for the state of the hotel and the pipes does not make sense, older buildings are better maintained.||Never recommend this place and that receptionist needs to be sacked for her behaviour
