As someone who grew up going here for pasta for 20 years, my wife and I were a little shocked that it went from a very comfortable family style to a modern less than inviting family restaurant. There is something to be said for updating but I think this went a little too far. The food was okay; certainly not what it used to be. The marinra sauce was a little too watery. We will be back for sure to try it again. Can't say enough good things about the GM!!! Great call on putting her in charge (shorter lady long dark hair). I was glad to hear that the restuarant is still in the family! This is probably the biggest reason we will be back. Specifically because we used to always get served by Deb (Debbie). She always made us feel like family!! The spamoni ice cream is still wonderful and the cake are delicious! The antipasti was also amazing!! Maybe a little tweek to the sauce would make it better or is this even the orginal recipe with fresh ingredients? We will look forward to another try and hopefully see a full dinner option vs ala carte menu.
As a family, we’ve been going to Amalfis for over 40 years. My wife and I had our rehearsal dinner there in 1994. We also travel 30 minutes to Amalfi’s for a take out pizza. It’s with heavy heart to say I’ll probably never be back.
On Saturday night, six of us went to Amalfi’s to celebrate a 27th birthday. We waited in the bar for all to arrive. With one person in the bar, it took at least 10 minutes
To be waited on.
After all had arrived, we were shown a table. It took for ever to be waited on and get drinks. I looked around and saw that nobody was in the bar and numerous tables were empty in the restaurant (on a Saturday night). That should have been the first clue.
It seemed we waited a long time before we ordered, and again waited a long time for the first meal to arrive. It was a pizza that was burned on top and burned black on the bottom. That was immediately sent back. But I was wondering why it was delivered in the first place.
Fifteen minutes later the dinners started arriving one or two at a time, with five minutes in between (why?) I received my two meatballs last, after waiting at least five minutes. I cut into the meatball and found it was frozen, really? I sent that back. We eventually received our food, but some of our party were done.
The service was very poor. As they replenished our drinks, they left the old ones on the table, and It took for ever to receive our food. Our dirty plates remained on the table until we left. It also seems the drinks were way overpriced as was the food.
I truly believe this is a management problem. Ever since the pandemic, I noticed the restaurant slide down, off the scale. I’m not sure, but I believe Amalfi’s was sold around that time.
I wish I had realized how close Amalfi’s is to me much earlier. Crazy tasty Italian food.
I had the Chicken Parmesan - hot damn the garlic bread was good. The layers of cheese, sauce, and chicken was just what the Dr ordered. My wife had the Lasagna and loved it.
Between our table we ordered what felt like most of the menu. Everyone enjoyed. The pizza looked great. They have it all.
Been a couple of years since we had been here, but won't be back after this experience (Nov. 2024). Food was bland with no thought for presentation, and seemed like it was frozen and heated to serve. Definitely way overpriced for what was served. The service wasn't terrible, with wait staff in very casual attire, but we were the only table there, so........
The decor had been changed drastically from what I remember growing up, looking less Italian and more graffiti style, with a large outdoor area. I guess they do outdoor music in the summer now?
It seems like this old Portland restaurant has become a music venue/bar, and for some reason still serve dinner. I wish someone would have warned us. Beware.
Amazing food ! One of the best in Portland. Very friendly people. They even have a little gift shop in front with food you cook at home ready to go. Great place ..
I did two star because the place is nice. But the server and food is bad. You enter nobody ask or tell you to sit. The food is just costco stuff. Nothing special. The antipasti no craker. It was american antipasti. (Pickles)? Everything taste premade. The calzones bread it wasn't cook.
Went here last night for our anniversary dinner. We were shocked that there was maybe five people in the whole restaurant, including outside. Ordered the antipasti it was okay. We ordered a $16 cocktail, which we thought was a little overpriced. Drinks were good though. We ordered pizza and they served it from some guy in the back maybe the chef? But it was on two pieces of cardboard and it was kind of stuck to the cardboard. The crust was awful it almost tasted like a frozen pizza. It was very disappointed because this is a special place I remember when I was a kid going here. I don't think we'll be back anytime soon.
The food was good, service was excellent. They did change up a lot of menu items though. There used to be full meal deals but they changed that too. Also, like all businesses, their prices went way up.
