It was a good stay, but the room was cold; for some reason, there is a thermostat that gives you an illusion of control of the heating. The breakfast selection could have been better, and we got no maid service after putting up the sign. Besides the kind and helpful people (front desk), they let us check in early, and the bed and room were clean and comfy.
Way overpriced for what you get.
My bathroom smelled of feet and dog.
My room had 2 beds, both horribly uncomfortable and lumpy.
Complimentary Breakfast was as you would expect at a much cheaper hotel.
The staff were friendly and the front desk was helpful.
But it feels like stepping back into the 80s... and not in a good way.
Also, why were there political signs IN the hotel? Weird.
Let me tell you about the gorgeously preserved 70s style in this hotel!!! If you love a retro 70s/ 80s style, this venue is the one for you. The faux flowers in the planters are absolutely not needed and tacky, but easily removed!! The greens are gorgeous enough on their own. All in all, it was mostly a feast for the eyes!! The tile, the brick, the light stained oak, the stunning ceiling in the dining room, the fountains!! I loved it! The modern mirror above the fireplace in the lobby is totally wrong for the space. The new laminate(?) flooring works well enough. The modern furniture in the lobby is not too distracting. The rooms are appointed pretty well. I rather liked the vintage bathtub and tile. It fits the age of the hotel. With a little tweaking here and there, the vintage feel of this hotel would be its charm and draw for business. I for one would love to host a grand party at the Altoona Grand!!
Recently renovated lobby and rooms. Overall comfortable stay. Breakfast was good enough, just standard though.
A big issue was the lack of signage on the walls. You have to use a map to get around - but you wouldn't need to if they had signs for where the rooms are on each hallway like most hotels do.
The hotel looked beautiful when you 1st walked in and that was all are 1st room was gross bathroom had mold. So we asked to be moved Second room was even worse. There were stink bug in are room plus other bug. Bathroom was gross and spiders in there. The bed was hard and blanket were covered in weird stains. Had to call front desk to get a change of blankets and the front desk clerk was very rude. will not be ever returning to this hotel. Would love to get my money back
We had a comfortable stay here at the Altoona Grand, our recently renovated room had a comfy bed and Nick made sure our stay was comfortable. After a thorough room check, we found no signs of any bugs others had mentioned. Placed in a convenient location right beside the Outback Steakhouse and across the road from Target, Dunkin’ and a few other places.
No more hot tub - we primarily booked here, as it was one of the only Altoona hotels with a hot tub, seeing that it says they had a hot tub online but found out on arrival “permanently closed”. Otherwise, nice pool area and restaurant.
The complimentary breakfast was lacking on the weekdays, with only cereal, yogurt and waffles available, but during our final day on a Saturday there was Ham and Eggs available aswell. Cozy place. We would consider returning.
Altoona Grand... is not so grand... hard beds, flat pillows. Card key issues. In need of some major outside appearance work looks really run down. . very bad internet reception.. on the plus side. Very clean, nice weekend breakfast. Great coffee. Staff was very friendly. Restaurant was really good.
Just spent 4th of July weekend here. The hotel staff were nice and helpful. The beds were hard and extremely uncomfortable. The pillows were tiny, flat and had an odor to them. The room ac didn't cool the room very well. Had it set to 64° and the room never got below 75°. The bathroom had mold on the ceiling tiles, mildew all over the shower head and barely any water pressure. There was also an abundance of dead bugs in the light fixtures as well. I'm 6'3 and had to hunch over to wash my hair. The hallways stunk of weed. Having 2 very young kids that's a problem for me. The pool area does offer a kids pool and that's what drew us to this location. Sadly though the pool area is lacking serious maintenance. The hottub is permanently closed, there are tiles missing around the pool and the concrete is broken and loose all over. There are a lot of shady characters that hang out behind the hotel so if you value your vehicle, park out front. Location is good as there are a lot of stores and restaurants in the immediate area.
