This was my first time at Alter Ego by recommendation from a good friend. Ally was absolutely great! She had thoroughly reviewed my questionnaires and was ready to go when I walked in.
I have curly hair that is going grey, but I wasn’t thrilled with the stark contrast between the grey and my much darker all-over color. While I haven’t had my hair dyed in over a year, the remnants of some older reddish color was still present towards my ends.
It is hard to find a curly hair specialist you really like (this was attempt 3 after my previously loved stylist moved to NY!), but I think I found my gem in Ally. The cut is awesome, she highlighted and toned me so that my greys are more blended, and she was amazing to talk to!
100% give this salon a go if you are in Raleigh (or surrounding areas). They have so many stylists that I’m sure you will find your gem as well ????
I've been visiting Alter Ego with Shayla since 2018, and it’s always been a wonderful experience! Recently, because of my work schedule, I started booking appointments with Taylor B., and I’m loving it! Both Shayla and Taylor B. are such talented artists and stylists. I always leave the salon feeling happy and beautiful. A huge thank you to Shayla, Taylor B., and the amazing Alter Ego team for all the fantastic work you do! You guys are the best!
I have been coming to Alter Ego and seeing Elise for about two years now and she is an absolute wizard with hair. She listened to what I was hoping to accomplish, advised on how we could achieve it, and has been my go to ever since! She’s perfected my color, knows how to cut and style my hair even with a pesky cowlick, and always takes her time to get it just right. She is also just a delight to spend time with and talk to!
The salon itself is bright and clean and welcoming. The front desk staff are always so nice and it’s just a great place to be. I can’t recommend Alter Ego enough!
Marissa is the best of the BEST! She has done both Keratin treatments and cut/styled my hair multiple times. In fact, she is literally the one and only person I trusted with my hair leading up to my wedding!! This is because she truly listens, hears and respects you and what you are trying to achieve, and always has great results. Marissa is so effortlessly spot-on in her styling and hair treatments. She is honest and will tell you how things will work with your hair type (density, texture, etc.) which I genuinely appreciate. She’s so sweet and easy to talk to as well, just adding to the charm. 10/10!
Liv is hands down the best hairstylist I’ve ever had! Not only is she incredibly talented at cutting and styling hair, but she’s also down-to-earth and truly listens to what you want. She takes the time to understand your preferences and always delivers exactly what you’re looking for. Whether it's a fresh haircut, sleek straightening, or beautiful curls, Liv nails it every time. I always leave feeling confident and happy with my look. If you’re looking for someone who knows their craft and cares about their clients, Liv is definitely the stylist to see!
Kat is my very first hairdresser when I moved to Raleigh and she’ll remain the only one I’ll go to! She’s very receptive to feedback, friendly, and genuinely cares about her clients. I look forward to having my hair cared for by her every time I go in!
On the salon itself, the decor is really edgy, funky and unique. I love the vibes! The owners invested in a coffee and tea station for the customers and as far as I’ve heard, they take great care of their employees! For anyone who’s looking for hairdressers, Alter EGO is the place to go! If you need help identifying hair stylists who specialize in your type/kind of hair, you can always email/text them before making an appt :)
That said, if the owners are reading this: please invest in more comfortable chairs. Both for the washing stations and where people get their hair cut. It can be a torture to sit through 5-7 hours for hair bleach and dye, and even after a while during my regular haircut on those bony, too curved chairs. It will be a DREAM to be seated in cushy seats and not worry about backache. This also applies to the seats the stylists have; some are so worn and tattered, there’s duct tape all over them. While I can see the stylists’ good spirits with drawing designs over the tape, it’ll be great to see them have equipment that matches their expertise. Besides, it’ll be a better look on a salon that’s already put so much into the decor of the place.
Got my first curly haircut, and I am definitely very happy with the results. If you want a good curly haircut from someone who is detail oriented then definitely go to Charlee Lopez. You won’t be disappointed!
Just had my second cut from Alter Ego and my stylist Abby Claire has once again give a flawless service. Her attention to detail and friendly disposition is the main reason I went back. Abby somehow knew exactly what a needed/wanted each time and she seems to really enjoy her profession. The salon is very clean and all the staff I encountered were more than welcoming and inviting. Definitely recommend 5/5 stars all the way .
