Best WLM Reviews

The vibe was reminiscent of outdoors in a coastal Italian city with black and white patio cushions and coral colored walls. It’s a calm comfortable atmosphere. The food was cozy and yummy. They hit the comfort Italian home food. Everything was good but needed a hint of salt, except the bread. The bread was a little too salty and the coffee was bitter which is why I gave them 4 stars. the tiramisu was absolute perfection, It’s a lovely place for a date or apps with a friend,
Review of 2022... RIP.... If only they would have listened to me, telling them the truth, pointing out serious glaring problems instead of Food journalists sugarcoating everything and misjudging it and listing this as second best italian restaurant in town... LOL.
It was obviously NOT, that's why it closed as I predicted 18 months in advance... so many issues how could NO "professional food critic" see those it's unbelievable...
ALLORA has great potential, not too bad of a location and ample parking, but GREED (or a bad business model) and a CONFUSED concept/ideas are a big problem right now.
They just opened 3 months ago, so they have time to adjust and correct mistakes. Chef is talented and there is a great company behind the restaurant. At least on paper.
What is the problem? They r trying (too hard) to be a cool "populist" southern Italian "coastal cuisine" (seafood centric) restaurant, while trying to be an upscale New York-like FRENCH "Elitist" restaurant...
The menu is very expensive, which is ok, but you get really TOO SMALL portions, so u cant just have an app and main, but u MUST order at least 4 dishes to feel satisfied + dessert.
The tiramisu I was given was not just the SMALLEST ever served in a restaurant but also INSULTING borderline highway robbery. A 2 inch square... wanna share a dessert? Forget it. U must order 3... the rabbit leg ($36!!!!) was a 2 bite chicken wing size...
the $13 side of spinach was MICROSCOPIC . The pasta portions are small, they honestly even say it on the menu, basically saying its more like an app or a side , unless u r ok with a small pasta for your main u will feel u need more to eat.
I had the Fettuccine mare Diavolo, it was great but most people will need more in it. the Pearl desperately needs a good Italian place but why coastal? Why southern? Why not just Italian with all the wonders of the regional cuisine this country has...
The wine list is also confused, heavily centered on NORTHERN Italian wines from Piedmont (inland- mountains) and not centered on coastal southern ones. But that's irrelevant to be honest.
For a big name location restaurant I find the training of the hostesses subpar or non existent. They dont say Goodbye/thank u to customers after they spent so much money and the host stand is right next to the door. Obviously is a bad management issue. Training and "quality control" is a manager's responsibility.
In summary one star cause they need to work on a lot of things. Will it be busy next months? Sure, people like to try new restaurants. Point is , will they come back after the initial "honeymoon" period where everyone tries it out?...
Myself I'll probably come back in 2/3 months to try it again, but ONLY at one non-negotiable condition: ****** a normal sized Tiramisu'******, which I ll be happy to PAY. Size does matter for Tiramisu', which together with Panna Cotta is a Northern Italian dessert, not Southern and not "coastal" LOL...
UPDATE: after my initial visit I went two times. Food and service were even worse, serving food that didnt match at all the menu description... Place was doomed...
For a place "themed" after the Island of Capri/Amalfi Coast this makes no sense. The Amalfi coast and Naples are famous for amazing desserts and pastries, like Pastiera Napoletana or the famous Torta CAPRESE, a chocolate cake typical of, guess what, CAPRI... where r they on the menu? Mystery.
Speaking of, where is the Classic Caprese Salad, with its vibrant color to match the restaurant's decor and "birth place"?...
This is dubbed a "COASTAL restaurant" but inside not a single reminder of the SEA, instead a gigantic murales/painting of a FOREST above the bar area. Make it make sense...
ps: the two level dining room kills the Vibe/scene and the view from the Patio is horrible (street/empty building/no foot traffic) so the only solution is to decorate it A LOT with FLOWERS or furniture or ART.... when u don't have a spectacular location like Southerleigh or Mon Chou Chou, your focus on quality of food and overall customer experience MUST be much higher...
Took my sister here for her birthday dinner and it was perfect. Great service from our server Angelo! The food was delicious and they were very accommodating to my gluten allergy. Will definitely be coming back
We wanted to try this place out because we love seafood and Italian. The ambience is beautiful and our service was good (once we were seated). We initially stood at the host desk for about 5 minutes before anyone noticed us. But the food was pricey and not very good. I ordered the Allora spritz to drink. I don’t think it had any alcohol and it tasted like an orange Fanta. Our salads were good and sized well. I had wanted to order salmon - however, they were out of salmon. So I got the shrimp with a garlic butter sauce. The shrimp were medium sized and did not taste fresh. I make fresher shrimp scampi when I buy gulf shrimp from HEB. It was super disappointing and lacked flavor. The pasta was just ok. There are definitely better restaurants at the Pearl. We don’t plan to return here.
3.5 Stars.
Service? Great. They were attentive and knowledgeable.
Ambiance? This place is beautiful inside and out. The upstairs dining area looks like it would be delightful used, but unfortunately they were not using it the night we went. They were generous enough to allow me to tour it, however, and share my findings with readers! Outside patio also looks like it would be nice, weather permitting.
They have a good range of drinks available, cocktails, draft, wine, etcetera. The wine we tried paired well with dinner. As for dinner? The food ranged from good enough (asparagus, orrechiette pasta) to excellent (prosciutto di parma, house bread, cauliflower, branzino). Problem? The prices. For these prices, the culinary prowess needs to be legendary and across the board. A $75 Branzino? Tasted good, but nowhere near that price point. $27 Octopus? Have had better at a sushi bar for about fifteen dollars less. Compliments on the unique sultana raisins addition on that roasted cauliflower. Made for a very unique sweetness, in a good way. Pasta was pretty average, could make better for about a fifth of the price in my own kitchen. The prosciutto appetizer was dainty, fresh, flavorful. Paired with the whipped burrata, light vinaigrette splash, on the thick but soft bread, made for a winner. Sadly, my highest compliments, in addition to a side vegetable and an appetizer, go to the house complimentary bread. Thick, succulent, moist, beautifully toasted focaccia pieces. Enough that we paid extra for triple orders. Surprisingly, given their other prices, it was only $5 for more. In hindsight, we should have ordered 5 more breads instead of the pasta and branzino!
Verdict? Way too expensive, though gorgeous and gastronomically pleasing. Wish I could rate you higher, but maybe when the guilt from my wallet goes away.
Yesterday, I saw and was impressed with the Restaurant Week menu for @allorapearl. Amazingly, I was able to make reservations through Tock.
We were seated at the balcony area, and Emily was our very attentive server. Hubby had the Highwheel Hefe, I had the Mia Cara, and Dad had Lemonade. The Restaurant Week Menu had great choices. The liver mousse was outstanding with the cherry jam. By the time we got to the third course - grilled rainbow trout and quail - we were so full. We all shared the Pistachio Gelato and I had a bite of the Lemon Curd. Definitely had some food to take home. Great spread and tastings of food! Go hungry!
It was our first time here. We went during Culinaria restaurant week so we would try more plates without braking the bank. We were seated on the patio and even thou it was cold we got a warmer close to us. The menu was 4 course prefix menu for $55 per person. Not bad at all for the amount of food we got. We were a party of two so we decided the get 2 different menus so we could try at least 8 different dishes. Wow. Presentation and ambiance is on point. Flavor leaves you speechless. Everything is delicious. Reservation is highly encouraged and look for alternative parking since parking at The Pearl is becoming expensive. Definitely coming back! Well done!
Very nice high end restaurant. I was there for the weekend buffet and it was excellent. Very wide selection of offerings. I normally eat a vegetarian diet and I had absolutely no problem getting my fill. The grilled asparagus was grilled perfectly and the kale salad was delicious. The deserts were equally delicious and not to go unmentioned the servers were excellent at their jobs and were very attentive to our needs.
