Beautiful location, gorgeous views, terrible service. Late lunch, food was blah. As we arrived, first hostess we met couldn't be bothered to look up when we asked if we should seat ourselves, yeah she says. We were glad to meet our next waitress who seemed very friendly, but quickly abandoned us. Never checked on us for another drink order, never brought us a check. We finally had to go find her to pay. Like I said, lunch was just so so. Soggy fries, fish and chips salty. Shrimp were good, but more of an appetizer, definitely not a lunch portion. I expected much more from this experience based on the beautiful surroundings and high price. I've had better fish and chips for a tenth of the price from a tavern, with better service too.
It was so lovely, our first time there. Everyone was helpful and friendly. Even one staff member went above and beyond to help 2 of us who forgot our bathing suits. She loaned us her own stuff. It was Thanksgiving so super busy. Impressed with the kids and dogs being so welcome. Thank You.
Overall, while Alderbrook offers stunning views and great amenities, some service-related issues and extra fees detract from the experience. Not a great value considering the prices/fees.
Pros:
- Beautiful, peaceful views from the waterfront rooms.
- Spacious in-room soaking tubs.
- Spa services are exceptional (they don't charge a 20% service fee).
- Delicious meals that were both well-prepared and flavorful.
- High-quality in-room toiletry products.
Cons:
- Check-in process at the front desk was extremely slow.
- An automatic 20% service charge was applied to all food and drink orders. Service fees and gratuities should be at the discretion of the patron, not automatically imposed by the establishment.
- The resort also charged an additional $27 per day resort fee for who knows what.
- Noticeable mold on the shower grout and shower curtain.
- Beds are on the softer side and bedding was very light for fall/winter with no extra blankets offered.
- Room service had issues—lost our ticket, got the order wrong, and it took nearly 2hrs to arrive. Still had to pay the 20% service charge on top of that.
- Pool is very noisy until 9pm. The adult-only policy for the pool and hot tub doesn’t begin until 9pm, which may not be ideal for those seeking a more tranquil experience earlier in the day.
Stayed here for two nights during our honeymoon. The staff was friendly and was happy to fix any issue we had. We went during the quiet season, and for the most part, felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Nice amenities, warm staff. Seemed to be relatively transparent about their service charges. We will definitely be coming back.
My wife summed this place up well- a middle class trap. ||Our second time at Alderbrook sealed the deal for us. We will not be frequenting this establishment again. The quality of food is poor. The service is mediocre. The accommodations are Holiday Inn caliber at best. ||Our recent trip, we ordered dinner to go and drinks. We ordered a couple beers whilst waiting for food, which equaled $20 with the instant gratuity. Apart from that, we order the “wagyu” burger, Caesar salad, clam chowder, and pesto pasta. It was all of such poor quality that we went to bed hungry. ||It’s very unfortunate that this establishment is representative of fine dining and high end accommodation. This resort is at best three stars.
Food was excellent and the rooms were very nice. Just wish there were more activities to do. There’s a little hiking trail and a golf course, but not much else unless you have a boat.
Our family of three (two adults and one toddler) spent this past Labor Day weekend at Alderbrook.||It was our second stay here and we won’t be returning. For the price, we were expecting a lot more. Additionally, both me and my partner have been recovering from what looked like food poisoning 24 hours after our return. We exclusively ate at the restaurant for the majority of our meals. ||The good:|- The property is beautiful from the outside and looked very inviting. It was a busy weekend but we were still able to find parking.|- There is plenty to do that kept our three year old engaged. She loved being in the pool and exploring around the property.||The bad:|- We checked in around 5 and had to wait a bit since our room was not ready.|- Once we arrived, the room was tidy, but smelled really musty.|- There were leftover champagne glass and slippers leftover from the previous guests.|- The rug had leftover crumbs and was clearly not vacuumed.|- The room itself is poorly laid out with a very small bathroom that’s difficult to navigate. |- The bathroom was full of mold and soap scum between the grout that was left uncleaned.|- The shower curtain was also accumulating mold and pink scum. |- The food is okay, but overpriced and made us sick. |- The pool is so chlorinated that visibility was poor and full of dirt/hair.
Beautiful location. Resort is very nice, a little bit out of date. Rooms are large and comfortable. Our bathroom was a bit small but had a large tub. Only a very small if you are planning to use a laptop. For is good. There are plenty of people here but yet very quiet and doesn't feel at all crowded. Overall it's a fantastic place for getting away in a quiet, peaceful setting. Very relaxing.
