Best WLM Reviews

A change of ownership has not dimmed the bright star that is Alchemy Bistro & Bar. Whatever you order, it just might be the finest meal available in Port Townsend. The "crab tots" from the starter menu are to die for — better than a crabcake, in my opinion. Our meals of the gnocchi with mushrooms and tenderloin medallions with scallops exceeded expectations. We'll definitely return!
Update: We did return, and it's as splendid as ever. Our server, Rhonda, made the evening all the more wonderful. Again, do not pass up the "crab tots" — simply to die for. The stroganoff special and New York strip were par excellence. Pricey perhaps, but worth every penny.
This place is 10x better with the new owner! Great food. Just wish the offered more grain-free items on the menu. They will accommodate but it would be nice to reflect on the menu. Only issue is usually the staff, per usual port Townsend vibe, isn’t always attentive nor welcoming as the prices reflect. But a MUST for dinner in PT.
Everything from the cocktails, shared plates and entrees was perfect. The staff was very welcoming and attentive. Our server has really attentive to make sure that what I ordered I could eat because of food allergies. Definitely will go back again when visiting Port Townsend again.
The vibe and atmosphere nice. At first took a while for our waiter to show up but after that the service was really fast and good! The food was tasty and delicious and well presented! The only down side was the glasses were not really clean, plates were chipped! We found flies inside around the table and splash of food stuck on glass! So wish it was cleaner and better like the food.
Amazing dinner with equally amazing service here. Could not give our experience too many compliments ????
The special of the day, seared tuna salade niçoise, was the perfect light but satisfying dinner option - earthy arguala, soft veggies, meaty tuna and zesty cherry tomatoes worked perfectly together. The popular choice dungeness crab and bacon fettuccine was truly decadent and post-meal snooze worthy. And the filet mignon - wow! Never have I had a medium rare steak so perfectly tender. The half dozen oysters were small and very flavorful and the sauces+lemon+tabasco were all good pairings. Glass of house wine was truly excellent and came in a very generous sized portion too. And who can say no to complimentary sourdough baguette slices with butter? To finish it off, a zesty and boozy cake bottomed lemon mousse.
Our server was so friendly and knowledgeable and all his recommendations were excellent. Definitely worth coming to if you're in Port Townsend! (Pst- Make a reservation ahead of time easily online!)
On our last special trip to Port Townsend we dedicated our Friday evening to check out Alchemy. I am happy to report it didn't let us down in any way.
Starting with the crab tots and oysters on the half shell, a great wine selection and amazing, friendly staff.
Dinner was amazing.... Crab bacon fettuccine Alfredo and for me Duck three ways, yum, wow!
Highly recommend it!
To be fair, this restaurant is as short-staffed as are so many others both in and out of the kitchen so we were pleasantly surprised at most of the food that arrived. The mussels were rather large and just a tad undercooked but hey, they were BIG so no fault there. The seafood creole was tasty with just a hint of spice and gobbled down quickly so we were all in total agreement with the earlier reviews. That said, a few stars got dinged for the steak strip sandwich which was advertised by two waitresses as "thinly sliced" pieces of tenderloin with an au jus in which to dip the sandwich. But here I would advise passing on the sandwich, one which arrived with big chunks of rather tough meat and a watered-down au jus. The waitress apologized and offered a free dessert to make up for the meal and offered to box up the rest but forgot to do so and thus another star vanished. Perhaps we hit a bad night, even if it wasn't that busy; and to be fair, we didn't mind having to ask 4 times to get more water (we were used to it since restaurants were indeed having trouble finding good or any help). Our bill arrived and had to be taken back for a few corrections (waitress apologizing again). When she returned (another wait to pick up our payment), we asked about the to-go boxes we requested for our uneaten portions but she admitted that she had completely forgotten but that if we could wait she could have some additional items prepared (uh, no thank you). So bottom line, we knew that we had hit a bad night but we felt that perhaps the manager or someone could have emerged to try and correct the misunderstanding; alas, nobody appeared. The chef may have been new, the waitress the same; but it did put a damper on what seems an otherwise highly positive place...hey, it happens. Times are tough and places are struggling...just avoid the steak strip sandwich.
Located a couple of streets back from the main street. It has huge indoor seatings and good size outdoor seating. We had drinks and Angels on Horseback. They were perfectly cook and delicious!
I had Road less traveled wine flight, the wines were delicious.
Service was ok and took a while for everything to arrive. My wine flight didn't have any description nor explanation so I didn't know which one was from France or Italy or Portugal.
