I went to visit my dad at the assisted living building across the street & planned on treating him to lunch but he’d already eaten. Nothing wrong with treating myself tho ???? I sat by myself outside & mostly stayed off my phone. It was a nice day out, sunny but with a breeze going. I ordered a Diet Coke with the patty melt deluxe. The food was tasty, the service was prompt & friendly, & the price was decent.
Good food, good service. Great local spot
We had a large group and sat on the patio. Our server was wonderful and attentive. The food was tasty and came out hot and fresh. I liked the Monte Cristo but could have used some preserves. The server did give us powdered sugar and jelly for it so we had the perfect sweet and savory brunch. Our coffees stayed full and everything was wonderful. When we come back to Chicago sure we'll visit again!
After visiting nearby Rush Hospital and seeing Al's Grill I decided to give it a try. I had Spinach Feta Cheese Omelet with Hash browns, coffee, a side of bacon and pancakes. This turned out to be the worst breakfast I have had in a long time. The omelet looked like it was made out half and egg, it was bland and flavorless as were the hashbrowns, even their coffee tasted terrible. The bacon was also dry and flavorless. I was shocked that a place like this can serve this bad. Once I finished and put the my money of the table one of owners immediately called my waitress, I saw them and they turned their backs to a they whispered something back and forth like if I was going to run out on the bill. I picked up my money and showed them. This was one of the worst experiences restaurant experiences I have had in a long time. I will never go back to this place again.
Nice little place. The food tasted pretty good. The service is pretty fast. The waitress is very nice. The skillet was really good I had to order it without the veggies but really good. Pancakes were alright nothing to special but good.
Skirt steak was not cooked correctly , and it was spoiled. Items were missing. I felt like throwing up when from the taste of the steak ...and it didn't look nor taste like a skirt steak...I'll never buy anything steak related again.. extremely disappointed. Hope I don't get food poisoning . Please be careful ordering a steak from this place.
Al's was good, not great. Loved the environment. Great window exposure. Excellent coffee. But our portions were on the small side (we ordered breakfast). The food was good and reasonably priced for the area.
This is an old favorite diner around Oak Park and great for those American standards of a hearty breakfast, diner-style burger or sandwich, and comfort foods. I was there for breakfast and enjoyed a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns and pancakes. A good value of portion size and satisfying cop of coffee. Friendly and helpful (and workin' hard for the money) waitresses.
