Ate here today they had three different menus with three different menu prices displayed and then when you get to the counter, they charged a dollar more. I asked they said somebody new took over and they’re gonna change all that soon. And the food wasn’t as good today
What a bizarre little building in the middle of a bustling Birmingham! Food was fresh and delicious. The PEOPLE were fantastic. I would love to come back.
Bar-B-Q Grilled Chicken Baker: 7/10
Overall, this was a bit bland and the toppings were unimpressive- Barbecue sauce was tasteless and I could hardly find the sour cream or green onions. However, once we took it home and added our own toppings (chili flakes, sour cream, green onion, red onion), it was very, very good. Don’t underestimate how huge these are - 1 order lasted us a good 6 meals!
The newly renovated outdoor seating area is lovely for a cool summer evening, but we did have quite a few cockroaches crawling around between our feet in the seating next to the bushes.
Parking: Free street parking within a walking distance should be relatively easy to find during the evening hours and weekends, but will likely be difficult during weekdays. This restaurant is easily walkable from the UAB campus.

This is a nice local diner with a large menu and a variety of choices. Fast service, clean tables and decent prices. The outdoor eating area is spacious, but inside is small with only 9 tables. Close to UAB medical facilities and school. Not much parking but an easy access location. Generous portions. I had the chicken baker (huge) and my wife had the grilled chicken special with rice, salad and hummus. Delicious meal.
This used to be one of the best places to eat. Now it is not. We came in at 11:00 opening after being at the hospital since 5:30 am. starving. And we were given fries that were not even cooked all the way. I am extremely disappointed in Al’s quality. And it ruined it for me. I will probably never eat here again. Miss the old owners.
Just called to let them know my burgers were pink from Saturday night not done at all and I did call back but no answer. We were at a nearby hotel so decided to get dinner there and never again. I called and got someone today because honestly I almost forgot to call about it and the manager is a ghetto mess. Kept asking me the same question over and over again asking why I’m just now calling and I told her I didn’t think about it until again now because it was my son’s birthday. She was very rude. She doesn’t even sound like she be running an establishment. Get y’all some better workers and make sure y’all cook that meat through. 0/10!!!!!!
Love this place! Little hole in the wall college grub spot, but you get sooo much food for what you pay. The tea is minty and refreshing, the people are kind, and they have seating inside and out if you want to eat there
I went there this past Monday night after making a phone order.I usually look at food before I leave but that night I didn’t because they usually get my order right and they are very pleasant people but, that night the young man that took my order over the phone was so rude when I returned to the restaurant. I ordered two bakers one chicken only meat cheese sauce, steak baker only meat cheese sauce.They had everything on them green onions, sour cream. So once I got home and saw that they were wrong so I called. Once in the store the young man was rude while talking to talking bout he didn’t remember me ordering my bakers that way.i wished I had looked again because mine was still not right he gave me a combination with chicken and steak I only wanted steak, I didn’t feel like going back again, but trust I will not return simply because you are supposed to treat people with respect, and yes I aware that losing one customer may not make a differeybur still I’m not a person of confusion just a very dissatisfied customer. Don’t see the steak baker which what I ordered. My ticket was $37.01 Thank you Margaret Mitchell
