Best WLM Reviews
I drove into town on a road trip with my dad. We agreed a burger would be a nice treat after driving 4 hours. So glad we stopped here… the burgers were phenomenal!! I got the mushroom Swiss burger and it was cooked to perfection. The fries were great and the atmosphere was pleasant. I must stop from my and my family moving forward!
Very solid burger cooked the way YOU LIKE IT. I got mine medium and it was actually served perfect. Add-ons were great as well (chili and slaw), and the crinkle cut fries were crisy, yet not over cooked. A bit pricey for a burger and fries, but what isnt these days.
Great burgers. The fries are pretty good. They season with rosemary I think. Good for one time but next time I would leave it off as it is a bit overpowering.
Super good food. Very college town atmosphere. The lighting and ambiance are very much on a budget with adds to the experience. They have a secret menu of which I partook. Try the Aubrey
Okay, I LOVE Al’s. They’re one of the best burgers in town, if not the best. I’ve been multiple times and they never let me down.
This time I ordered the Mookie, Bobo Chili Cheeseburger, and the Kaarin with a Southwest Black Bean patty. All three were absolutely fantastic, and the Kaarin is such a good vegan option. They also use potato buns which are objectively the best type!!
The sweet potato fries are covered in some cinnamon sugar which puts it over the top. The crinkle cut fries are always wonderfully crispy as well!
Al’s food and ambience make it a perfect spot to hang out or just enjoy a burger. If you’re looking for unique and delicious burgers, check them out!
I wasn’t expecting to eat one of the best burgers of my life when I stepped into Al’s, but that’s exactly what happened.
The Mookie is phenomenal and the French fries have the right amount of crisp and plenty of seasoning.
I door seating is a bit cramped, but they do have plenty of covered and uncovered outdoor seating.
If you go on the right day, there may be loud music playing at the establishment next door. You’ll get a nice show with some good food.
Great vibes and amazing burgers, 10/10.
We were in town and thrilled to be able to go to eat at what used to be one of our favorite places. Now it is a mere shadow of what used to be a great burger place. We dined there last week and the food quality was poor, the staff was indifferent (and they used to be energized and happy) and could not or would not answer our queries.
Finally a manager was brought in (though we had to wait quite a while before he would come out of the back) who in response to our questions let us know that none of the food is sourced locally anymore, and everything, even the meat, comes from U.S. Foods (which is one of the lowest common denominator food sources anywhere).
When this place opened it won awards and had local beef and locally made hot dogs. In 2018 it won best burger place in America.
Now it has generic food out of a box with grade c fries and tater tots that won't stay crisp and taste off-brand, barely edible meat, and a food quality no better than the lowest quality generic diners. A dreadful value for the gourmet prices it still charges. Nothing was like what it was several years ago. No more.
I have lived in Chapel Hill for most of my life and have known about this place, but we never visited, but now that we have tried their burgers, we will most definitely be eating there more often.
The burgers tasted delicious, and we also got some fries. Their sweet potato fries were my favorite. the staff were working hard and they were very nice too. It's a nice place to get a nice burger.
