Review for Alhawi Restaurant (formerly Shawarma King)
After nearly a decade, we returned to try the beef shawarma at Alhawi Restaurant, which was formerly Shawarma King. Over the years, we’ve often stopped here for the delicious flavors of beef or chicken shawarma. This time, though, we noticed quite a few changes — new staff, a refreshed atmosphere, and a different name. We arrived close to closing time, which may have affected our experience, but overall, we found the flavors to still be satisfying. The beef shawarma was well-spiced, though we’d love to return during busier hours to get the full experience. For anyone familiar with the old Shawarma King, Alhawi has kept some of the classics alive, but the new team and ambiance offer a fresh twist to the familiar flavors.
Astonishingly good skewers! If you pull up and think the street is foggy, that's actually just smoke from the live charcoal grill they have. And man, does that charcoal make for some delicious grilled meats! The chicken, lamb, and beef were all delicious. With plenty of garlic sauce, you're going to eat well!
One of the best food truck, great food, great service it is not heavy at all and you and friends can come and enjoy. Mostly it’s such to go place kind of a truck of food and the food is primarily made on charcoal so it has a lot of flavor. You will enjoy it for sure, their fries are amazing their chicken beef lamb, and the lamb skewers with fat are amazingly grilled on charcoal for perfection. I almost seem like I am promoting or marketing for them but I’m not I don’t get paid from them. The food was just amazing.!!!
The best dishes cooked on charcoal any combination of
Lamb, chicken, beef, grill vegetables ,hummus, garlic sauce, and
Served with a salad on a bed of pita bread, one word delicious
This food truck has everything to become a restaurant, and then I rate the atmosphere you eat at your car didn't see tables, besides it's located in a small shopping center no enough space but this is not a deterrent to try this delicious food
Delious skewed meet cooked to perfection. If you have a palate for it, you will appreciate the taste...
Man .. this is food paradise in America .. kababs grilled on coal and freshly served .. you cannot get any better than that .. my friend Nader is awesome and helped us order food.
If you haven’t been to this place then it is a must try. They do not have a menu so let me go ahead and give you the scoop on how to order at this place. They mainly have kabob skewers (chicken, lamb, and beef), shawarma sandwiches, and burgers. Their skewers are their top sellers and if you order them ask “can I have the sauces that go with it?” After that, they’ll give you a plate of sauces. This place is in a parking lot and it’s easy to miss so he on the look out when you’re trying to find it. Secondly, this place is open late. Which is a huge plus for late night eaters. Thirdly, they do sell soda but if you feel their selection is limited you can always go to the gas station nearby. Forth, their food does take some time so you want to be sure you’re ready to wait 20 mins or so. Most of all, their English is a bit broken and their truck is a bit noisy so be sure you’re loud and proud when speaking to them. You can also order over the phone as well before you come to delay your wait time. When you get the food, you’ll be able to tell its fresh. I don’t think they have ever sold any old product. The prices are high and are even higher now that everything has gone up. However, overall this place is yummy and always brings me back for more. The meat kabobs are moist and flavorful. My favorite is the beef kafta kabob. Hands down it doesn’t beat anything. They use the same kafta kabob on their burger but I don’t like their burgers too much but their Kabobs are out of this world. I really enjoy this place and I always introduce my friends to this place when they come out of town. It’s definitely a must spot if you’re visiting Houston.
Surely the best kefta sandwiches in Texas. The chicken is also amazing. Everything is fresh to order.
Call ahead, bc it gets busy on weekend nights. Usually can take 15min but it can go to 30min+ wait time if you just pull up.
I've been coming here since they opened and though the staff has changed, the taste and service hasn't. Atmosphere is better than the typical grungy lots. Arabic is always wafting thru the air while you hear every sweet dialect from the ME here. I truly enjoy this quick stop and go food truck.
