Best WLM Reviews

awesome food, ambience and people! enough road parking, some days it can get a lil tough ti find space. the place is worth a visit for some authentic food fare from Japan. the folks here are kind enough to guide you through your order and the drinks menu here is authentic too! both stackedup the food à well as the alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks menu!
❤️Kara Kurenai Aesoba ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- a dry ramen
- at a level 4 spice you could really taste all the flavors, I would probably maximum go to 5
- loved the meat, melted in your mouth
- almost had a peanut taste to it? Had the perfect mixture of flavors.
Yuzu Kara Kurenai Ramen* ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- a little salty for me
- just didn't compare to the dry ramen
- it almost has a Korean taste to it?
- think I'd try something else next time but it did feel like a classic
Even though it was my first time visit Afuri, I know I will come back when I’m in town.
Fried chicken was crispy on the outside and tender juicy on the inside, a perfect appetizer or snack.
I love my noodles with dipping sauce (yuzu-tsuyu tsukemen). The noodles were chewy, topped with plenty of fresh green onion and bamboo shoots and several mah-jong sized braised pork. All the ingredients worked so well and brought a savory feast to mouth. Especially the pork, it tasted exactly like the one my grandma used to make at home, with a tiny sweetness. The dipping sauce was rich and thick, with a citric and nutty taste. It was tangy and flavorful, I went for level 2 spiciness, still a little bit spicy for me. If you can’t handle black pepper, I recommend you go for non spicy.
SUPER SLURPING
This is a top 10 ramen spot almost earning top 5 in Portland for sure. Their housemade gyozas puts them over the 4 star rating and into 5. The BUTA GYOZA is the best in town when it’s not burned.
I’ve had the ramen at this location four times now and definitely love their broths. I’ve had the yuzu shio and tonkotsu shio ramens. Both had very flavorful broths with great depth, but I would’ve liked the temperature to be hotter and have a bigger broth:noodle ratio. Chashu at this place is very flavorful and tender, but could be a bigger portion/have some char on it. Miso eggs are FIRE.
Usual downtown flora were out and annoying when I parked on the street nearby. Building restaurant is in smelled like sewer… I blame the Ankeny effect.
Gyoza are housemade and perfectly crispy with juicy interior.
Ramen was 50% off if you ate inside the building. This is what got our attention. We took the bait, and I've always wanted to try Ramen. We had to serve ourselves water and order at the counter, giving it a fast food vibe rather than a sit-down restaurant feel. The Ramen was so-so. It had a very distinctive seafood flavor despite the dishes supposedly being pork and chicken; which only had two very small slices of chicken breast and a whisper of greens laid on top. In my opinion, a $20 bowl should have an actual serving of protein, not just noodles.
I ordered the Yuzu Ramen and enjoyed it immensely alongside my something Colada (it was purple), which was very refreshing in the summer heat. The ramen tasted high-quality and had a well-balanced palette. All the ingredients were of good quality and taste. The overall flavor was very citrusy (I know... Yuzu... but it was STRONG), which I did not expect, but it was done well.
I would say the portion was good for lunch, just enough to get you going again. Price seemed reasonable for Portland and in consideration of current PNW prices, overall, so I cannot really dock any points due to it.
I enjoyed the inside atmosphere.
4 stars for service because it's counter service. The person who took my order was friendly, though, and my order came out briskly.
Afuri is a great spot if you're in the mood for Japanese fusion. I highly recommend it, especially if you're looking for vegetarian or chicken dishes. The spicy margarita is also a must-try!
The workers here are incredibly diligent at their job, love the atmosphere too! The Japanese cuisine here is absolutely splendid!
( this restaurant has the best napkins ever known to man. so gentle to the skin while offering a perfect blend of practicality and elegance, ideal for both casual and formal dining occasions! )
