We don't usually stay in the Crest but the Adventurer ran an off-season special that was too good to pass up. $50 per night for a two room oceanfront room. I told you it was too good to pass up! We stayed 3 nights. Room was clean and comfortable and the view was wonderful. We had breakfast one morning at the restaurant in the hotel, a little pricey ($15.50 for chipped beef) but the food was good and you can't beat the convenience of an on-site eatery.
I don't know if we could afford this hotel in the summer but you are literally steps from the end of the boardwalk and the tramcar. If there was one drawback, it would be handicapped access. There are stairs everywhere and the only way to get a wheelchair in the hotel is to go thru the underground parking garage to the elevator. I wouldn't want to pay $350 a night for a single room that's sleeps 2 and have to use what feels like a delivery entrance but that's me. It's also how you get the luggage trolley to and from your car.
There are several covered lounge areas, and a beautiful pool.
They are not open year-round but keep an eye on their website. I don't know what specials they run throughout the season but they are definitely on our list of places to stay.
It's a spacious room. There is technically no one to clean your room but you can ask for new towels and sheets. If you are there 3 days or longer, I believe you can have them clean your room. Direct access to the beach. To me, it's pricey but there aren't many hotel options. The pool is great. There is a connecting outdoor room coming from the beach, to the pool and hotel. I wish it had a bar available. Would be nice for the parents ????
Positive: The room was nice and spacious. Very clean and fresh smelling. The balcony overlooking the ocean was awesome! Enjoyed having coffee and watching the sun come up. Nice touch with the pool towels being available. We will be back! Negative: No
Our family just returned from a stay at the Adventurer, and we have nothing but positives to say. We had opted to pay a minimal fee for an early check-in @1pm, however we had received a text saying our room was ready even sooner. My check-in process was made incredibly easy by Mary. She was wonderful!
Once in our room (PH4) we were greeted with complimentary fudge, cleanliness and an amazing view. Refreshing & restocking toiletries & necessities is made very easy with a door tag. Everything we requested was brought quickly that morning.
The entire property is kept very well, the grounds & housekeeping staff are very detailed & professional. We loved using the second floor sundeck!
I've read several reviews mentioning the elevators, and yes, they can be slow. That said, it's an older property, with older elevators. I guess if there is one flaw, I'll take slow elevators. But on vacation I'm not really in any rush anyhow.
We would totally, highly recommend the Adventurer to anyone. The location is both beautiful and convenient, with a fabulous staff.
Pro: Great location, staff does a great job keeping it clean all day & evening! Pool is nice.
Con: sitting on your deck you get wet from the air conditioner from above, no handi cap ramp besides from the basement, and than u have this slow as hell elevator, 10 elevators have come and gone had to carry everything up n down 5 flights of stairs waiting, carried a cart down the steps because of the elevator by the time we packed the car, we had an elevator to get my grandmother down with her walker.
All in all it was a nice place.
We just got home from a 4 day stay at the Adventurer in their corner penthouse room. While I understand it's an older beach hotel, I will say the following:
PROS:
- LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Direct beachfront, directly off the entrance of the boardwalk and a short walk to stores, restaurants, bike rentals and parks.
- Spacious rooms, great for large family's or multiple family's staying together.
- Plenty of amenities: laundry on site, gym, pool, restaurant, plenty of parking, fire pit (s'mores packages are available), elevators.
CONS:
- Carpeting in the rooms: I view this as a con because it traps sand and dirt and even after vacuuming, it can still feel a little musty/damp/dirty under your bare feet.
- The toilets hardly flushed. They were very slow and prone to clogging when with the tiniest amount of toilet paper.
- True to many reviews, the elevators are slow. It wasn't a huge deal to us, as we are very laid back on vacation and never rush to be anywhere. We did opt to take the stairs a couple of times because of the wait, but we understand that it's an old hotel and the elevators could use a little assistance.
-Aside from the younger gentleman with dark hair at the front desk who checked us in, and the woman with the dark gray hair at the front desk who gave us our keys, the staff that we encountered in the hallways, elevators and at the restaurant were not that friendly. If we saw staff in the hallway or the elevator, no one even acknowledged us, which I found strange. In any other hotel stay, I've never had hotel staff not say hello, good morning or ask how we were.
- When we got to our room, we found a dirty washcloth in our bathroom sink, and blood stains on our couch and lounge chair on our balcony. We covered everything in sheets before sitting on the furniture.
- All the furniture is terribly worn out and extremely uncomfortable. The beds are very firm, every single pillow in the room was hard and flat, the couch was worn in and stiff and the chair in the living room was even worse. New furniture would definitely elevate the whole experience drastically.
Overall, our family had a wonderful time as we only spent a couple hours in our room each day, mainly to sleep.
Very well laid out and appointed room, allowing for our family to be together but also have privacy. Comfortable and clean. Exceeded our expectations. Very quite. Nice view. Lots of amenities. Great location. Would definitely stay again.
Good location, right next to the beach and boardwalk, and great outside gathering places, however was disappointed in this hotel. For the daily room rate, I would have expected a bit more from the property. Beds and pillows were like lead. Our room was never cleaned/refreshed. Clean towels were thrown in our room even though we didn't use the don't disturb placard. Most importantly was the parking!! Each room gets one parking spot, which by the way is not a numbered spot. You just have to hope there is one there for you. Most of the cars did not use the parking hang tag, so who knew if they were legitimate cars for the hotel. In fact we found at least 8 cars that did not have a hang tag. The staff was not very helpful and we had to park on the street. For this amount of money, we should have a guaranteed spot!!!
