The Admirals Club (ORD Terminal 3): My Layover Oasis of Luxury (and Free Snacks)
Ah, the Admirals Club at Chicago O'Hare Terminal 3. Forget delayed flights and screaming children, this place is my airport sanctuary. It's like stepping into a parallel universe where travel is actually enjoyable.
First, the food. Gone are the days of sad, soggy airport sandwiches. Here, we're talking gourmet salads, artisan cheeses, and hot dishes that actually look appetizing. I practically sprinted past those overpriced Auntie Anne's pretzels to get to this buffet. And the best part? It's all free. (Well, technically included in the membership fee, but let's not get bogged down in details.)
Then there's the drinks. Forget those mini bottles of questionable wine. The Admirals Club boasts a full bar with top-shelf liquor, craft beers, and even a decent selection of wines. And the bartenders? They're like mixology magicians, whipping up cocktails that would make James Bond proud. I may or may not have had one too many "Mile High Margaritas" before my last flight.
But the real MVPs are the staff. They're like a team of hospitality ninjas, anticipating your every need before you even realize you have one. Need a charger for your phone? They've got you covered. Want a quiet corner to catch up on emails? They'll point you in the right direction. They even managed to track down a rare bottle of sparkling water for my ridiculously picky travel companion.
And let's not forget the views. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic views of the tarmac, where you can watch planes take off and land while sipping your mimosa. It's strangely mesmerizing, like a live-action air traffic control simulator.
The only downside? Leaving the Admirals Club and actually boarding my flight. It's like being ripped from a blissful dream and thrust back into the harsh reality of economy class. But hey, at least I have the memories (and maybe a slight hangover) to keep me company.
As a longtime admirals club member, I've seen lots of changes. On the negative, most clubs have gotten very crowded. On the plus, I feel the food and service have improved a great deal. I'll limit myself to the food. First, in case you didn't know, it's buffet style. Which I know for some is a complete turn off. But I see it differently. The staff is continuously tending it, nothing sits out too long. And everything is freshly made. Today, for example, is a macaroni and cheese mixed with chicken for a protein. Additional chicken is provided in case you want a lot more chicken than provided. In my selection, I added additional chicken, fresh green onion and grilled corn. And a couple of pieces of cheese from the cheese bar.
The food is part of the club membership, so you can call it free or $900 a year. Take your pick. ????
The Admirals Club at Chicago O'Hare International Airport offers a comfortable and well-appointed space for travellers looking to relax before their flights. Located within the bustling environment of O'Hare, the Admirals Club provides a much-needed escape from the crowds and noise of the terminals.
The lounge features a modern and sleek design, with plenty of seating options, including comfortable armchairs, workspaces, and more private areas for those seeking a quieter environment. The large windows allow for plenty of natural light and offer views of the tarmac, making it a pleasant place to unwind.
In terms of amenities, the Admirals Club delivers a solid offering. The complimentary snacks and beverages, including a selection of wines, beers, and spirits, are a nice touch. There’s also a variety of food options available for purchase, ranging from light bites to more substantial meals. The quality of the food is generally good, although some might find the selection a bit limited compared to other premium lounges.
For those needing to stay productive, the lounge provides reliable Wi-Fi, plenty of power outlets, and dedicated workstations. The business facilities, including printers and fax machines, are convenient for business travellers. Additionally, the lounge offers shower facilities, which are clean and well-maintained, making it ideal for freshening up during long layovers or after a long flight.
The staff at the Admirals Club are generally attentive and courteous, ensuring that guests have a pleasant experience. However, during peak travel times, the lounge can get crowded, which
One of the best admirals clubs I’ve seen! Food was great and actually had a really good selection from vegan and vegetarian to the usual snacks one would expect from the club. Super clean, quiet and had great views of the runway.
Working from the bar between flights. Staff at so kind and attentive. They are making avocado toast! A nice lady came by and gave me a delicious pastry!
Love the Chicago Admirals Club! Clean, quiet, comfortable seating, family friendly, good food options. Wish the clubs would all offer larger plates. The small ones cause such a mess all the time. Other than that it is nice to take a shower if needed during our travels and relax in peace!
Wonderful club in the One World Alliance group. Even though American runs so many flights in and out of the airport, and so many passengers take advantage of the club, I’ve never had to wait in line or wait for a seat.
They have a made to order avocado toast bar, and the opportunity to order off menu if you have time and what something beyond what they offer in their (very well stocked and varied buffet).
Everyone is welcoming and friendly and it is a great place to relax between flights!
G/H Lounge - Very little comfortable seating. Half of it is tables with uncomfortable chairs. Good selection, very limited, nothing substantial. Cheese, salami, choice of two soups (beef barley was decent), VERY dry, unseasoned white chicken breast chunks that has nothing to service it with (sauce, pasta). The Mediterranean Mac and Cheese was decent but not anything more than a side dish to nothing. Some vegetables and hummus... That's it. No glasses for soda. Had to use a coffee cup (which was dirty). When asked how long it would be for a plastic cup (the only option... no glasses) they said 3 times over a 30 min period, that they are "probably" working on it?!? The facilities were reasonably clean.
L Lounge - Very small lounge w/limited seating. What they had was very uncomfortable table seating and some lounging chairs. Very limited selection of food, nothing substantial. Cheese, salami, choice of two soups (beef barley was decent), VERY dry, unseasoned white chicken breast chunks that has nothing to service it with (sauce, pasta). The Mediterranean Mac and Cheese was decent but not anything more than a side dish to nothing. Never did find the beverage selections so I choose a glass of wine. Came in a sorry glass. It was reasonable clean, though I did have to ask to have my table cleaned as it was dirty.
I travel extensively (I'm am executive platinum) and usually use the Flagship lounge which I have been happy with. Can't believe people actually pay money for an Admirals Club membership.
