Clearly in competition with Tony’s Pizza across the street, and it did not disappoint! Pizza was wonderful, and clearly cooked fresh. Chips were also absolutely sublime. Would highly recommend to anyone seeking great pizza in San Francisco.
Disappointing Experience: Rude Service and Undercooked Pasta
We usually go to Tony's Pizza in San Francisco, but this time someone recommended we try Acquolina. My friend and his girlfriend were visiting from Los Angeles, and we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to take them and give Acquolina a shot. We drove from Lodi, CA, more than 90 miles away, taking an hour and a half to reach the restaurant.
We ordered couple of appetizers, a couple of pizzas, and my daughter ordered a pasta for herself. First of all, all the food came at once - appetizers and main course. We were initially just having appetizers with drinks and then moved on to the main course. When my 10-year-old daughter tried her pasta, after a couple of bites, she said something didn't seem right. The pasta was way undercooked. She complained to us, and at that point, we put the pasta on our plates to try. She was right; it was undercooked.
We called our server to inform him that the pasta was undercooked. Without missing a beat, he said, "Now you guys are done with most of it," with no apology, nothing. He made us feel horrible and speechless, as if we were complaining to get free pasta. For reference, see the pictures of the pasta and decide if we were done with the portions.
We were so shocked and stressed by the server's rude and dismissive attitude that we just wrapped up the dinner, took our pizzas to go, paid our bill, and left. That server's actions made us feel belittled and disrespected. We and our visiting friends were in shock and did not have a good experience at all. Even the pizzas weren't that good. I am sorry, but we won't be returning to Acquolina.
Homemade spaghetti is delicious The service is good and the delivery... The presentation is fantastic. The food came out quickly and steaming hot.
Great experience in little Italy!! Parm wheel is the reason we chose Acquolina and it didn’t disappoint.
Food was good, only issue one might have would be that it didn’t come out together & by the time it all came out some plates were cold. So that’s definitely an opportunity.
Service was good, atmosphere good, limited cocktail menu, good wine, overall great experience.
Are here just because the line from Tony's was ridiculous, so we gave it a shot. This place was definitely disappointing. The pizza was not cooked all the way, with a soggy bottom.
The meatballs were just plain. And the service was just not prompt nor attentive.
The atmosphere was good, had a chill intimate vibe.
And the price was fair.
Definitely a no go for me.
What a fantastic dinning experience and the food was incredible. I ordered the pasta made right in front of you in the cheese wheel and it had some of the most robust taste that you will ever have in a pasta dish. Every item from the calamari and burrata to start, the pasta and ravioli, and the tiramisu at the end exceeded my expectations. We truly love visiting and can’t wait to return.
Great Italian food. Loved the pizza - Focaccia Caprese. Very simple and true to the core. Loved the assorted cheese in Toscano. Frittura calamari and Shrimp were superb. Nicely battered and fried shrimps and calamari. For the main I tried Spaghetti Fritti Di Mare - this was my first time trying clams and mussels. Not sure I loved it but I don't blame it on the restaurant. For the dessert there was Tiramisu - probably this was the only thing which stood out to be average.
Finding parking around this area is difficult, especially on weekends. The food is okay. It's nice to grab a beer and hang out with friends.
