I waited almost a week before posting so it wouldn't seem "emotionality charged."
We went here for a couples date for our church. There were 8 of us total. We were seated immediately, had a server/waitress immediately. Awesome. My husband specifically said, "Tea, no lemon please. I can't have lemon." The waitress acknowledged him. She brought back drinks. We noticed a couple of the appetizers had lemon so we gently reminded her about the no lemon clause, and I said, "He is allergic. Please be mindful." She said, "Oh well don't drink that tea because I dropped a lemon in it, but I took it out!" Not cool. She asked us to hold on ordering to check and see what all had lemon. She returned and basically told us really had no options for food because everything had lemon juice, lemon zest, and literally the batter has lemon powder in it. We were disappointed that she relayed this instead of a chef coming out to try and help us find a meal option. We were pretty much rebuffed on everything except grilled mahi, grilled sausage, and grilled oysters. It looked like they threw my husbands food on the plate from across the kitchen. It was sad, and he felt so embarrassed. We stayed for the fellowship with our church family. Otherwise, I would've taken my husband home.
I truly did not enjoy the EXPERIENCE at Acme, even though my fried shrimp and crab claws were cool. The hostesses took awesome photos for us, but we were very disappointed and did not feel as if we were valuable patrons that evening. My husband and I are BOTH disabled veterans (me with agoraphobia and him with PTSD) and we rarely venture out to new places. The embarrassment on my husband's face is one reason we don't try a lot of new (to us) places. Hopefully, the staff and chef see this as an opportunity to grow so that people with food allergies don't feel ostracized, embarrassed, or as if they are imposing upon a restaurant.
Update (22OCT) : I emailed the person that responded and there was ZERO follow up. No response at all. ????
My rating takes into consideration value and quality. We were there for lunch at about 12:30 PM. As soon as we walked in, we were seated. Immediately, we were told what the specials of the day are. The restaurant has a fantastic atmosphere and a panorama view of the intercostal canal. One can dine either in or outside. Logan took great care of us. She took time to answer all of our questions and kept checking on us, keeping our glasses full. My wife and I both got the seafood etouffee. It was served in a very large bowl, which was a filling meal. The taste and quality were spot on. The entire lunch menu was very nice with a wide variety of items and the prices were great. Our very large bowl of etouffee was $14.50. It was a great lunch experience, and we will be returning.
We met a friend here for lunch today and first off, our server (Susan) was terrific. We had a lot of chatting and catching up to do before any of us even looked at the menu. She was respectful and gave us time and when she came back and everyone but I was ready to order, she helped me pick out what I wanted.
I ordered the soup of the day (corn and crab chowder) in a bread bowl and it was EXACTLY what I wanted. The soup was thick and flavorful and the bread loaf was one I could easily have finished every bite of.
The guys ordered the butter bean plate and a burger. Both looked great.
We had a good time and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Isn't that what we're all hoping for?
Hubby and I ordered the chargrilled oysters for an appetizer and then I had a small seafood etouffee and hubby had the gumbo. Oysters were good. Server very helpful and friendly. It was busy and noisy there
I had the seafood salad, and it was okay. The lettuces was iceberg, I would have expected a nice spring mix. The hush puppies were very good and the prickly pear was spot on.
What a great experience from the grilled oysters to the alligator just simply perfect. The waitress named daily was an awesome server very polite and knowledgeable.
We arrived for lunch during a period of low attendance. They seated us in a secluded area, which was ideal for us as we prefer to dine in privacy. Oysters that we ordered did not disappoint. We ordered the fried gator bites as well. Although not terrible, I was unable to finish them. The shrimp platter was what I selected as my entrée. They were enjoyable but pretty pricey. In its entirety, the food merits a seven out of ten.
Food is awesome. Our server was awesome.
My ONLY complaint, we arrived early, and the host said he put us in. But it may be our reservation time. OK, no worries, that one is on me. Except instead of putting us in... he canceled our reservation. Fortunately a server noticed us sitting there when She had tables open and no one else in the queue.
With that said I love this place otherwise.
