Fan of the brand and have to admit their properties are getting dated. They know it as some renovations are underway. I was irritated upon arrival to find out the gym was closed for renovations as I chose hotels for their gym and they had not indicated that on line. I got a very good rate on the room (less than $200 a night) as I book well ahead and wait for the sale. I didn't dig however that the morning coffee they offer to bring to your room ended up costing $12. (I would have just walked to the restuarant to get one for $5 to go as their cafe is closed.) I ate twice at the restuarant and it was descent. (There are a few other restaurants in easy walking distance as well as liquor stores. I walked into downtown as it was only 35 minutes away.. ||Yes it's grungy, and it's noisy and some of the people are slightly odd. (So it really is not for everyone.) But the Palm Springs location is ideal, the DJ spinned great tunes and it's got the hipster vibe one is looking for. I didn't partake of the pool, fire pits nor open allowable cannibis smoking as I was working. But I will return for a recreational stay.
Cute, well decorated, vibey. But too many children for my taste. Also a lot of stuff didn't work. Staff constantly needed to contact "engineering", who may or may not show up. Restaurant was a big thumbs down. Gym was closed for construction which I found disappointing. I probably wouldn't stay again. BUT, the mountain scape behind the pool was pretty amazing and the pool (minus the children) was pretty nice.
Here's the deal: I've been passing by this hotel many times and the 'party' aspect of it isn't what I care about in a hotel so yes, I might be a bit biased. a friend wanted to stay there before moving to our regular hotel. We have stayed during a hot week in July and the pool was literally boiling. It was crowded, felt not very clean and service by the pool wasn't really a thing. The music choice is always up to the taste, it didn't fit mine. The rooms are clearly old motel rooms and you can see the age here and there. ||The shower pressure was good, the bed was comfortable. The AC was uncomfortable in both temperature and dryness. The crowd was a good mix but ultimately, I'm not made for a party hotel where loud music is blasting. ||I think it was a solid stay but won't be back.
Ace hotel is average at best that charges 4-star prices. They do not clean your room, which not only includes towels but also garbage. I had to take the garbage bag to the front desk. The hotel is under construction which was not highlighted on the web. Poolside was dampened with the sounds of power drills all day. The pool itself is not heated and looks very dirty by end of day. Pool chairs and side tables look like they are from the 70’s. Rooms are ok but basic and small especially the bathroom. Overall, for the price there are better options in Palm Springs. Definitely not going back.
I've been coming here for years and sadly they've totally lost the plot on what made it special. On our most recent visit the spa, fitness center, and hotel bar were shutdown for renovations and the hotel did not give any advance or public notice. When we asked about the spa, several members of the hotel staff told us the same lie about it "heating up". Later they admitted it was a planned disruption that would take weeks to resolve. In the middle of our holiday, instead of relaxing like we'd planned, we were left scrambling for new accommodations. Maybe you want to roll the dice staying at a place where the staff is duplicitous and deceitful, but I would not recommend it.
Sadly the Ace let us down, we’ve stayed at several Ace properties and this one was not great. I’ve tried to call and speak to a manager about the issues and for a month have been getting the run around with no call backs or resolution. Not too surprised as the service at the property matches that. The property is not well maintained and a bit run down. Cleanliness is also an area of opportunity. |I wouldn’t recommend staying here, especially when there are so many amazing hotels in the PS area.
The Ace Hotel and Swim Club is a low-rent hipster wannabe.
Like other places in Palm Springs, its trying to lean into the mid-century modern vibe. That would be great if they actually had a decent decorator. They don't. The rooms are a strange mish-mash of disconnected pieces. It's more goodwill than mid-century. College dorm is not a design theme. The desk was lame-looking and the switch for the light was down near the outlet. Lighting over the bed was just odd. Two wrinkled robes hang off to one side. I'd be embarrassed to wear one.
The hotel's restaurant, which looks like a repurposed Denny's, leaves a lot to be desired. They stripped the flooring and opted to cover the mismatched concrete patches with a finish they thought would be hip, but it just looks tacky. To top it off, they charge $24 for a hamburger that was nothing special.
You can walk to the downtown area, but it's a very long walk and you won't be happy on foot.
I will say they have a hopping pool area that seems to have a great party atmosphere. That's good, because we didn't want to go back to the room. The staff was friendly.
All of these issues might be forgivable if the hotel was reasonably priced, but it's not. We paid $450 per night, and that was with a group rate! Would I go back? Absolutely not. Would I recommend it to anyone? No way.
The hotel is just okay, nothing remarkable.
One notable consideration is that this hotel has conformed to the model of “we will charge you an arm and a leg but will not provide basic room cleaning outside of a very tight window.”
In other words, you need to have your room cleaned in the morning AND you have to call the day before prior to noon to schedule it for the next day.
My advice: go spend your money elsewhere. It’s remarkable that hotels are cutting costs at the expense of the hospitality of their customers.
