Best WLM Reviews

I wouldn't have ever expected it back during the Vanguard or Create years, but Academy is quickly taking over Exchange as my favorite club in LA! The building itself isn't as nice and the bathrooms are crowded, but the updates to production, service, and vibes are unmatched. Really well-balanced sound system that fully envelops you, absolutely beautiful screen and lighting design, plus killer air conditioning that is close enough to actually make a difference. Top that off with a big open dance floor that isn't oversold, great layout with nice bartenders, and a sweet back patio area with seating and lights. My only complaints are the poor value for the money when it comes to drinks (mostly ice), and the parking being a bit steep at $20 when garage reservations near Exchange are only $12. It is convenient to be able to park there though!
Academy was hosting LA Art Battle which was an epic event sponsored by Sharpie. The venue had plenty of outdoor space and the interior had great lighting and lcd panel graphics running the entire length. Super cool atmosphere. Drinks weren’t that impressive and cost nearly $20 for a boring drink that took all of 5 seconds to make. Other than that, it was pretty awesome.
Academy is among the go-to EDM clubs in Los Angeles. The sound system is amazing, and the lasers and multimedia are pretty much unparalleled in LA. The vibe slaps. Owned by Insomniac, they’ve done a great job of bringing in top acts (for example, Vicetone, pictured below, is an excellent DJ Mag top 100 Dutch act). In addition to the main floor, the loft provides a down-n-dirty atmosphere and the outside fenced patio works for conversations or when crowds or heat get oppressive in the main room. Academy has five bars, including loft and patio, but drink prices are slightly steeper than the Exchange.
I cannot rave enough about how beautiful my wedding was at this place. 10/10 experience from start to finish. This was their first wedding and it seemed like they have been doing these for years. The staff was amazing and my guests felt so taken care of.
Loved the Coco Jones x Pandora x Delta Airlines I went to here for BET weekend in LA
I have been here mostly for events, but it’s a good space to host an event…
Drinks on the pricier side, but hey that’s “Hollywood” for you. Circa 2024 expect $20 for a one shot drink
Also, parking is in the middle of a homeless encampment, so either Uber or ladies carry your pepper spray while walking up to the door.
Came here for the yeedc event and it didn’t disappoint, it was very fun and getting inside was very easy. There was parking nearby and going through the line was fast after they checked ID and tickets. Inside was very themed and I enjoyed that I was able to purchase a few things before getting inside further for the event. I loved how they had hand fans and cowboy hats that I purchased one of those. In the beginning they had some line dancing which was very enjoyable before more people arrived for the event. All in all it was fun, it was too hot inside either, plenty of space to move around and getting drinks wasn’t much of a hassle. The line looked long but was really just a few minutes. Definitely would come again for another themed night.
My boyfriend and I were excited for our first visit to this club, especially since they were featuring a popular LGBTQ+ artist. Unfortunately, our night was ruined by the club's overzealous and, frankly, homophobic security team.
We went to the restroom together, unaware of any specific rules, and were immediately confronted by security. Even after we apologized for not knowing, the way they handled the situation was way over the top. Instead of just informing us about the rules, they followed us around for the rest of the night, making us feel incredibly uncomfortable and targeted.
This constant harassment made it clear that their actions were not about enforcing club policy but about singling us out. It felt hostile and discriminatory. We expected an inclusive environment, but instead, we were treated with suspicion and disrespect.
If you're looking for a welcoming and accepting atmosphere, I would suggest going elsewhere. This place left us feeling upset and unwelcome. Disappointing, to say the least.
$40 for a double shot mixed drink….. I was flabbergasted. $12 beers. $20 cash only parking on site which is cool get there early. There’s lines for restrooms but moves quick. They did let people in with shorts and tank tops which was cool cause it gets hot in there for a hardstyle event. Security really pats you down. Will be back.
