Last Friday, I went to Abyssinia and I LOVED IT. My 4 friends and I ordered 6 entrees (3 non vegetarian & 3 vegetarian) on a platter. We had the best social time finishing the HUGE platter; the portions are insanely good! All of us 5 were full by the end. However, I cannot emphasize how delicious every single bite was. The meat was so tender!! I will be back!! And prices were relatively good too for what you get!
I don't drink anymore, but I love the quirkiness of this restaurant/bar building and if I did drink still, this place would be a really awesome stop.
Solely based on the food, it's decent. The injera was too dry and thin for me, but everything tasted good. Service was good, but the place is really worn down.
I probably won't come back, mostly because the food was just so so.
Went with a group of friends. What a great place. Service was good. The server was very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. Food was delivered quickly and fresh. And very flavorful. Everything was outstanding. Highly recommend trying it out.
highly recommend the meat platter. 2 people can share one. Super filling and flavorful! Loved that the food was fun to eat and interactive. Injera was great.
This is not my first time. This review comes from three visits. I can honestly I love this place. Everytime I go the food never ceases to amaze me! I get the Abyssinian 1 but next time I'm getting #2. Both equally great just a different meat. Pair that with a beer. I can't remember the name but if you look on the wall I'm sure it #9 it's the Ethiopian beer. Along with the great service and the atmosphere is chill and you can really relax.
I have not had Ethiopian food much but this place is putting me on in a major way. I got the vegetarian and Abyssinia 1 platters and everything is delicious. I love the communal eating style. The atmosphere is great and they have live music as well
Update: I forgot to mention this is open until 2AM, so this is a perfect restaurant to remember for all situations!! Especially to cap off a late night, with some yummy food.
As a vegan diner, this is probably my favorite sit-down restaurant in the area. The food is scrumptious, I have never left any on my plate. Sharing the veggie platter with friends is a moment of great beauty. The injera with their various stews is absolutely delectable, finger-licking-good!
Slightly bothersome, smell-wise if anybody nearby orders one of the fish dish (it would help if they had an air purifier)... but otherwise, this is an amazing atmosphere as well.
I still haven't found better Ethiopian food in Philly! Even some places in NYC can't compare.
I will say this - if aesthetics/Instagramability, incredibly attentive wait staff, and super speedy service are what you're looking for... Leave this place off your list.
If you're looking for amazingly flavorful food, and aren't worried about waiting... This place is for you. It's amazing. HIGHLY recommend.
