I would put Abates Pizza up against Pepe’s, Modern and Sally’s any day of the week.
Today I ate lunch outside patio and ordered a small pizza….. 1/2 pepperoni and 1/2 sausage, which was delicious. Abates loads up the toppings, instead of the usual restaurants that put a pepperoni here or there. I definitely got my moneys worth.
Restaurant staff are always friendly, attentive, and a pleasure to dine in every single time I eat there.
I had a nice conversation with Loretta(owner) very kind and nice lady.
I give them a 10 out of 10
Amazing. ????????❤️
We ordered takeout for the first time since they moved to the new location. This had to be the most disgusting meal I’ve ever had in my life and I can’t believe a seasoned restaurant owner would allow a meal to go out of the kitchen like this. I ordered fried calamari and it stunk up my car, and when we got home it was soggy, slimy, tasted funky, and smelled like low tide, couldn’t even leave it in the trash had to take the bag outside it smelled so bad (see pictures). I hope none of us get sick. I also ordered a meatball sub, the sub roll was cut with a half inch on the bottom, and all the rest of the bread on the top so it was totally impossible to actually pick it up and eat it like a sub. It was thrown into the box and rolled over. The meatballs were very salty with minimal sauce. Tried picking out a little bit with a fork, but that kind defeated the whole purpose of getting a sub.
My wife ordered fettuccine Alfredo and that was not good as well marginal at best. Stay away from this place disgusting food. Needless to say, most of it ended up in the trash.
Update to owner’s response: I called the restaurant last night before leaving this review and was left on hold while they told me they needed to find a manager… after several minutes on hold, I realized I’d wasted enough time with these people and hung up. My wife got sick, just glad she didn’t end up with food poisoning. Hope they didn’t get anyone else sick last night. Will never go back.
I came here with my parents and brother for dinner and we ordered a large red mozzarella with mushrooms and sausage which was a little under cooked and sloppy everything was sliding off the pizza and it tasted a little bit bland. Also the waiter did not give us any utensils and were to busy talking you really need to pay attention more. Also I'm not understanding the atmosphere because you have a bar but you don't have a liquor permit so it makes it really confusing to the customer as far as. Is this a bar? Or is it a restaurant?
I was excited to see Abate restaurant was in North Haven. We always ordered from there at work for our pizza luncheons. We went on a Saturday at 8pm. It was pretty empty by then. We ordered th3 white clam pizza. Love the thin crust and plenty of toppings, but my husband thought there was not enough flavor. Maybe we should have told them to add extra garlic. We sat out back which was overlooking a creek. That was cool. They had the tv on playing music videos from the 70’s and 80’s. Felt like we were in a throwback town.
Excellent pizzeria. Do not get the other food, though; I got severe food poisoning from their fish! The pizzas are incredible; they used to be located on New Haven's famous Wooster Street, and their thin crust pizza is absolutely authentic and very flavorful. My dad and I loved the prosciutto pie and their traditional white clam pie. Very cute inside with large, airy patio.
The food was delicious my son and I sat on the patio and had lunch. The waitress was great checking on us often but not to much if you understand what I mean. The food had me ready to nap after 2 slices of the pizza ???? was really good ???? will go back.
This place is phenomenal from the food to the service will definetly recommend to anyone very good spot ???? ???? ????
The first time I tried their North Haven location my husband and I were not impressed. We thought the food and pizza lacked flavor. After hearing friends and family saying how good it was we decided to try it again. You know there is an issue when the kids rather the plain peice of bread over the pizza or pasta. One child had pasta with meatballs. The only flavor was the meatballs but the texture was off. The other child had cheese pizza and after two slices went to buttered bread. Salad with house dressing was also lacking in flavor. I had sole francese which had some flavor but was extremely light. Though reading other reviews about the fish I'm now worried if I'll get sick from it. The staff then seemed surprised we didn't want to take any of the left overs home. Why to just throw out when we get home?
For having been refurbished inside recently the interior is lacking. The dripping air vents over you as either wait in the front entrance as well as over some of the tables is horrible. That's a simple fix!
