Best WLM Reviews
I just tried them for the first time today. I just happen to stumble across them while leaving an appointment. I ordered for me and my neighbor. We tried the turkey wing dinner with rice, greens, Mac and cheese, and cornbread, with a side of catfish, and yams. When I tell you everything had flavor to it, we were quite impressed. The prices were well beyond reasonable, to a point it was just unbelievable, I mean shocked. There was a bit of wait time to get through the line, but it was definitely well worth the wait. Customer service was awesome, and I absolutely have no complaints whatsoever. I’m only 16 minutes away and the only thing I’m really upset about is not knowing about this place sooner ????
Service was very excellent, the ladies were nice. Line was rapped around in the inside, waited for over an hour, once I got up to the food certain things were out, but because we had to stand there another pan came out, food was okay, wasn't seasoned enough for me. Fish was really good. The lady at the register mixed lemonade and peach drink together and it was delicious. My mom was disappointed that there wasn't any tea to drink, she said it goes with soul food lol...the place was hot, and the floor was slippery. Through all the bad it was a good experience and really cheap.
The food was just average to me. The Mac and cheese was not good. Tasted artificial. The Turkey Wings and Baked Chicken gizzards were good. Overall ok however, not worth the wait. Some lady customer was in there with her dog. She stayed and ate her food and was feeding her dog from the table. I was waiting for someone to say something. I was like yuck, she should have known better. It wasn't a service animal.
I see this restaurant on TikTok and thought I give it a try. Once I walked in I already knew the food is good. The line inside was sooo long. I like how they serve the food. You walk up to the hot bar, tell them what you want and there you go it ready to go. If you was fried fish, they’re made to order which doesn’t take long at all.
Would I go back? Yes I would. I ordered the cat fish, Mac and cheese and cabbage. Let’s review the food.
CAT FISH: Pretty color, crispy, very flavorful and delicious.
MAC N CHEESE: Creamy, soft and well seasoned. Just how I like it..
(I HATE Mac n cheese that you have to cut like a cake and eat like a steak)
CABBAGE: Delicious and well seasoned..
CORN BREAD: decent but not bad.. you get this automatically with your food.
PRICE:: Shockingly cheap for soul food which I see why they’re so successful. Most restaurants over charge for their soul food and the food is nasty. I got 2 cat fish plates with drinks and only paid a little over $20.. WHAT!! and it was good!!
You get an entire with 2 sides.
This is my little spot, especially since it's 5 minutes from the house. Staff are pretty pleasant and personable. The food typically has great flavor and isn't over salted (a rarity these days). Each day there's a special, however there's no guarantee the special will actually be ready (went on a Monday for gizzards at 12:30pm and it was still a 2-3 hour wait). Also, the oxtails are reasonably priced but very fatty. Aside from those couple of things, the prices are definitely right and they have a great variety of offerings each day. Peach cobbler is pretty good too!
You better be here when they first open or you definitely gon have to wait or miss out! The food is fire and I recommend Mac and cheese, pork chops, whiting, and lemonade. Lemonade is more on the tart side but solid. Mix veggies are good but needed a pinch of salt for my taste buds. They only do oxtails on Thursday and Sunday fyi!!!
So yeah. Just stop. This is the best sf spot in the A. I been here almost 30 years. Eaten on Eastside, Westside, Southside. Between food, customer service, portions, and cost, yeah, this is it (no pun intended). And to me, it's the lil things-- the cornbread was banging, the dressing was banging, the mac and cheese wasn't dry or crusty. The food was good! Easily the best Collard greens I've had in a long time. I had spaghetti with Mac and cheese and yams. Wife had smothered turkey wings with rice, cabbage, and dressing. Daughter had Salisbury steak, dressing, and greens (yes, I tasted everybody's food, lol). I'm prolly going back next payday to try the fried chicken. You caint go wrong.
I was expecting to be blown away, but I wasn't. I cant say the food was nasty, it was just under flavored. It's like the chef got overwhelmed or something and all the dishes were basically bland my baked chicken was a little dry and my Salisbury steak gravy was bland.
