The food and service was great. Large portions, decent prices. Best items for me was BBQ bologna sandwich (fantastic). BBQ pork was good too. Beans were a standout! Awesome.
I think Mississippi and Memphis have different ideas about BBQ. We season our meat in Mississippi.
DineIn Experience:
The ribs were tender and tough. They had too much bark on them, which made the top layer of meat tough to eat. Under the bark was tender meat. I asked for sauce on the side because I like to taste the flavors of the meat but I definitely had to dip the tender meat in the sauce. The sauce is good. The baked beans were straight out of the can. I'm sure the okra is prebreaded and came in a bag but it was good. The caramel cake was the best part of the meal. It was buttery and moist. Someone took their time to make that caramel too.
The staff was courteous and seemed to have friendly relationships with the regulars. The wait time for food is fairly quick.
The establishment was clean. There is Memphis related memorabilia on the wall but it's not overbearing - nice touch.
I heard a lady say her mom sent her across town just for their cole slaw so I may give them another try. I think I'll probably order a smoked or polish sausage instead of the ribs.
Order rib tip plate for $18 tough and burnt! Everytime I chew my jaws and head hurts! Ordered here 3 times and never had this problem. Oh, and I asked for my coleslaw to be put in a separate container and they still put it on my plate!!! I know it's the holiday but please don't rush or forget my order because yall have bigger ones!
The ribs be under seasoned but overall the food decent. My problem is they are slow as hell. They do more talking than working. Whether you order through the app or doordash 9 out of 10 times don't start making it until you arrive. I've seen people come in and order and leave with their food before me and I pre-ordered and paid 30 minutes before I even get there
The food was ok my order was 2 catfish plates with coleslaw, baked beans, and green beans on the side, and lots of white slices of bread. A slab of ribs and two cakes one caramel and the other chocolate. 1. The catfish was the best thing they got going period, the coleslaw, baked beans and green beans were decent. The spaghetti sauce was different spicy with bbq sauce it was alright just a bit too bbq and spice. The ribs taste like they were on a grill a bit too long but ok to eat, it’s not that fall off the bone omg delicious like I though it would be to be a bbq place. So in total my order was $86 dollars and some change. Now beware!!!! I don’t know how they add but I woke up the very next day to see $107??? Hmm I know when I was at that counter it was $86 now $107 I don’t remember tipping being my first time there so please BEWARE!! I pray they taste and their ribs and cook them right like to the point the meat falling off. They’re not so bad just taste y’all food and be better??!!! ????????
Local place in Hickory Hill just outside of Memphis. Ribs were tender and sauce was perfect! Smoked sausage and cole slaw was delicious. Highly recommend will definitely come back when in the area. Great folks! Very friendly and humble.
I called several times to be put on hold for long periods of time, so I decided to go to the location and order in person. I placed my order and watched the young lady with the short red hair, answer the phone and put all the calls on hold while she talked to the other lady at the front counter. She never went back to the phones to take the orders and there was no one placing orders. The food is good but the customer service is horrible and she thought it was funny even saying, “I am tired of these people calling already.”
We had lunch catered today from A & R. The food was excellent. We had the pulled pork, slaw, potato salad, peach cobbler and I had a turkey leg. So stuffed after eating that the cobbler is still waiting to finish being devoured. I haven't had their bbq in years and was not disappointed. My favorite was the potato salad since I am slightly picky about what people add or if it has to much mayo or mustard, etc and it was on point. Go see Pit Master Mike @ the Hickory Hill location and taste how good the BBQ is!
