Had a wonderful experience staying at this boutique hotel. Check in was easy, Alex was friendly and promptly got me in to my bungalow, which was very spacious and comfortable. Everything was clean. Some parts of the bungalow could be updated, but I came here for charm and amazing views and I got that! Bed was super comfortable. The in room air conditioning kept the room very cold despite high temps in the 110s. Pool and hot tub was amazing, and the ambiance at night with the twinkle lights was so fun. I would stay here again.
Terrific place. Wonderful service. Alex is a great host. Nothing is too much to ask of him. Nice and quiet, but so close to everything. The grounds are kept up nicely. Adults only, means no screaming kids running around. All you hear are the birds and the wind rustling through the palm fronds. The view from the pool area is beautiful and it's open 24/7. All this for a very reasonable price.
Spent a few perfectly quiet and relaxing nights at A Place In The Sun. Quick and easy check in process if you just follow basic directions. The rooms are clean, well kept and have plenty of room regardless of your selection. The outdoor patio areas for each room offer privacy and sun. One look at a map and you can see how close you are to everything you need. We will definitely return. Thanks Alex.
Check in was strange and the outside looks like some locked up compound - false advertising. Then the check in person told me to wait in the “lobby” and it was a dilapidated outside bar with a chain on it. They pretend to hook and unhood a rusted chain to be professional but there is no lobby just the outside bar where check in took literally almost an hour. The sun was going down and it happened to be Thanksgiving Day weekend, so it was getting cold and dark. Then the man came out and said room 18 is now ready for you. It was NOT the room as described or pictured in the photos or booking description. The person who checked us in was rude, slow and overall strange. He kept saying that I got the room booked on line and in no way shape or form would I have ever booked that room. There were NO windows... all the windows were boarded up and there were weird doors with strange code locks on them throughout the unit. 4 in total with signs saying “do not enter.” When I asked the man why were there all these doors…he said they were "maintenance rooms" 4 of them??? One looked like a closet and my husband saw a towel covering the bottom of the door crack and we could hear a person urinating on the other side and clearing his throat. It was a CLOSET...it had no other outlet around this closet and we took a video of it. I thought I would open the curtains to a larger area because the unit was dark and the roof was low so I opened the curtains and they had what looked like a two way mirror and there were no real windows. I was so freaked out I hurried and wish I got a better video but I was hurrying. WE DID NOT STAY it was so unusual, the two way mirror was next to the bed...that strange locked closet was on the other side of the bed. I booked the King 1 bedroom garden bungalow with the kitchenette. It had some weird mini fridge and a portable heater in the corner. It was just one room with one bathroom where that window was boarded up and there was a mirror right in front of the toilet. There were no personal soaps there were large bulk soaps and lotions that were used and a hall with all these locked doors and neon lighting. I did not want to put my pet down on the dirty cement floors. It looked like some strange place that held hostages at the very least it was a fire hazard. The man gave me a receipt for a full refund but then when I contacted Booking.com he only refunded me a partial payment and did not honor the receipt or his word. He said that my review as full of “hate speech” and defamatory. He is most definitely in need of educating himself with the definitions of these words. An honest review is NOT hate speech and the instances are factual NOT defamatory. I have pictures and videos for proof. I have found many other reviews that are similar, I found one review that said their mattress smelled like pee and the motel’s response is the same “hate speech & defamatory”. I hate to break it to the “managers” but we have freedom of speech here so if you cant handle the truth about your gross motel then I suggest you find another business to rip people off with. All the “positive” reviews weren’t even that positive and some of them said that they were offered money to leave a good review. The reviews on Yelp were so upsetting one after an other telling their horrific experiences was so cringe. Some people were saying it was some sort of nudist resort which is fine just let people know so we can skip over it…but that is insulting to nudist because it was dirty, false advertising and unsafe. We left and I am trying to get the money back but I was personally afraid for my life. There was nothing like in the description, garden, kitchenette, patio....nothing. It was the most disgusting place I have ever been to.
I have stayed there every month from December 2023 to July 2024. The place is gated with little plants unfortunately. When I saw pictures before it had beautiful bushes and flowers. All gone now. Few trees at the property. Lots of gravel stones which gives it a cold feeling. Some bungalows are big and spacious, some are too small for king size bad. #14 has a constant noise from A/C and the light from outside coming in. #7 is the nicest room at the property (according to Alex) but you can’t open the window in the bedroom there. #4 has an orange tree on the patio. But when I stayed there first time in February couches in the living room were stinky. The bed is firm mattress which I personally love but I know many people don’t. I had to bring my own sheets and towels because theirs smell like strong chemicals. Even after keeping it outside for two weeks, they still smell.||Never hung out by the pool because it doesn’t feel comfortable being watched, and they have installed cameras everywhere.||There are little Christmas lights all over the property which makes some rooms bright during the night.||Overall I love the property and its location but I would change so many things there! Let’s start with the owners and Alex, the person who does it all there, reservations, check-is, cleaning, and maintaining the property. At first, super nice to me, good deals, welcoming etc. But in May something felt off, and I like transparency, and they hide who the owner is. I’m very conscious customer/guest, I like to know who I support and give my money to, so I did a little digging. Starting with reviews, and OMG, check the Yelp reviews of the property after new owners took over. Never seen something like this! People leaving honest reviews, and the owner hiding behind false name Peter B. is insulting, degrading, disrespecting the guests. It was very disturbing to me even by reading this, so imagine how these people felt since he was literally attacking them verbally. I’m an empath so I feel everything through my body. And when at my last stay I voiced my concerns to Alex, I got a text message “ We are unfortunately not able to accommodate any future reservation.”, and then they blocked me everywhere! From beloved guest to a banned guest. Just. Like. That. Which was hurtful because I’m clean, quiet and respectful of all the places I always stay in.||So, yes, they are super nice to some people and “rude, prejudice and discriminatory” to others (like one guest on Booking.com wrote). I totally believe it now. ||Sadly, honesty, transparency and integrity you will not find there. Also, now knowing who the owner is, and how he treats people, I would have never supported this business in the first place.
This is definitely a hidden gem that will work great for people who want to be out of the way and not really bothered.
Upon arrival, look for the sign for the hotel, not an office. Instructions for checking in are on a sign attached to the tall fencing that wraps around the property. Texting to check in from my car was cool in my opinion. Very easy and simple process if you've booked online prior to arriving.
I will say that with the "adult only" aspect plus the tall fencing. I was thinking it was a nudist community ????.
Enter the code given to get into the property from the main entrance, next to the well lit property sign.
The common area was nice and clean. Well lit at night and interestingly lit. Pool looks inviting and clean as well.
The room definitely has the Palm Springs OG vibe. Definitely dated to the theme and history of the property with some modernized aspects. Personally the rooms would be better with more modern aspects while maintaining the vibe and theme.
Furniture including the bed were firm which worked great for me.
There's plenty of privacy with the tall fences and very quite overnight. Parking lot could use more lighting especially since you can't see your car and will be hard pressed to hear your car alarm.
Overall experience was good.
This booking was made hours before our arrival due to a cancelation from our original hotel just that morning. For the life of me I could not figure out how we got so lucky to book an entire bungalow with its own patio and kitchen for $150 LESS than our original hotel.
Pros:
-Super chill vibe and cute
-Inexpensive
-Large living space with living room, kitchen, patio, bathroom, and bedroom for $112 a night! ????
-24 hour heated pool
-Adults only
CONS:
-Everything is a little rundown and janky. Everything.
-Far from downtown and the nightlife
-No ice machine or snacks
-Peeling paint and broken doors
-Old furnishings which could be totally cool but were all a little icky and dirty.
I was hoping for a romantic weekend away but ended up at place that just felt like spending the weekend at your divorced dads new apartment. If you're looking for somewhere cheap and chill and aren't expecting any luxuries this place is totally fine. I want to be 100% clear this was not a bad stay. I just wanted something a little nicer for a weekend away with the hubby.
A Place in the Sun is a wonderful, tranquil get away in the heart of Palm Springs. The rooms are extremely spacious with living room, kitchen, and Bedroom. Elizabeth Taylor, when she built it in 1951, definitely wanted her guest to enjoy their stay. That ambiance is still the same. Be sure to sit poolside early morning and enjoy the serene surroundings while watching the mountain turn orange at first light and the hummingbirds dancing about you. Highly recommended and a great value.
