Cozy tucked away Chinese/Taiwanese gem with a great price for delicious food!
I really enjoyed the noodles at the restaurant and highly recommend them. The dandan noodles were only about $9 and the very filling beef noodle soup came out to about $15. The scallion pancake and dumplings were also delish!
Just be aware that the xiao long bao on the menu are more so very moist steam dumplings and don’t have soup in them.
I’m excited to go back very soon to try out their rice dishes and other recommended dishes ????
I came here with my wife who is Taiwanese, so she know what up. We had the chili garlic cucumber salad which was great. Refreshing and spicy. The scallion pancake was meh, was doughy. I had a braised egg which was warm and flavorful. I got the spicy beef noodle soup the broth was flavorful and spicy. The wide noodles were well cooked, al dente, and the beef was tender and flavorful. My wife says it's the best we've had in Nova so far. She had the sliced pork with mustard green normally soup. It was great. We definitely will come back.
We found a good spot!
This place serves really good taiwanese-chinese cuisine - we ordered beef dumplings, beef noodles with thick noodles, cucumber salad/pickle, beef short ribs, and beef biscuits. I am expecting different taste from beef short-ribs, it is different from what I am used to for taiwanese method but still okay. While everything else was really good, feeling like having a comfy food.
The service here is awesome, we just entered and we are assisted immediately. The menu does not have any photos so you may need to rely on photos on google but there is some description on what it is the food about. (that’s when you know the food is good)
Place is inside of a building but also have entrance of their own. There is only indoor sitting and have quite spacious parking space. Once you enter here it is a dungeon of different culture so it could be an added factor that you are immersing yourself in.
Overall this is a good experience and surely will come back!
Popular place, especially on the weekends with local Asians and others. The restaurant is not big so it does fill up quickly on the weekends.
The food offered is what I call small-simple eatery food from Taiwan. Definitely in the comfort category for many from Taiwan.
The food comes out rather quick so you don't have to wait too long before you can enjoy the dishes. Definitely try the pork braised rice and the savory beef noodle soup. Don't forget the pot stickers and the refreshing small plates (picked cucumbers and salads). The fried pork on rice is simple and yet satisfying. Family friendly place and the servers are very attentive.
One small thing. You may have to share a round table with someone you don't know if they are running out of rooms.
Really appreciate that this place goes back to the basics after eating out at some over rated, over priced restaurants in DC, this is a return to reality.
You’ll find very few places in this area open as long as this place has been and I see why. This place puts up a fight against some of the Taiwanese restaurants I’ve had in NYC.
For me, I had a range of experiences across the dishes I tried.
Excellent:
- Spicy Beef Noodle Soup
- Boiled Peanuts
- Cucumber Salad
- Spicy Wontons
- Pan Fried Bao (probably one of the best I’ve had in the states)
- Dan Dan Noodles
Good:
- Thousand Layer Pancake (I will get scallion pancake next time)
- Peking Beef (Good for a hot day, not my favorite take on this dish)
- Steamed Dumplings
- Mustard Greens (first time trying!)
Bad:
- Nothing I tried luckily
Worth the trip to Annandale!
After hearing about this restaurant in the media, we decided to give it a try. The overall taste of the food was okay, but there was nothing extraordinary about it. The noodle soups were good and had handmade noodles. The service was okay, and the atmosphere was average.
A little tight for seating. First time at this place and food was good overall with generous portions. The menu is not easy to follow for a first time costumer. Recommended dishes from the server were Dan Dan Noodles, and spicy beef soup. I had asked for the dumplings since noticing that all the tables had ordered. Dumplings were home made and did not have any sauce to complement, liked them. Dan Dan home made noodles was light and full of flavor. I have mixed feeling on the spicy beef soup, a little too oily for me.
This place never misses. Best place to get comforting Chinese food in NOVA. Highly reccomend the spicy tripe (photo), and the gyoza. I think the soups are very tasty, but some other restaurants do it better I would say.
