Have come here a bunch. The food is typically pretty good; however, it can be inconsistent. It's always a bit different every time I come back, but not always in a good way.
Despite these inconsistencies, the service and atmosphere is always great. They have a nice bar and seating areas, making it a fantastic place to grab a drink. The cocktails and beer selection are fairly priced and always made well.
I had faith that by the time we decided to try this place out that they would have some of the issues they’ve faced worked out. Last night we decided to give them a try and I will say that it wasn’t absolutely terrible, but there were some issues that will keep me from going back there again.
1st issue - While the cornbread was good, it was horrible at the same time. Right after the initial taste of cornbread hit, it was immediately followed by a mouthful of iron and metal from the cast iron little pan it was made in. If you are serving someone and they tell you that their food tastes like metal, probably shouldn’t ask them if they want you to take it off the bill.
2nd issue - food came out and looked great. We got the Pit Master Platter. The issue was exactly the same as it was with the cornbread. Mac and cheese was cooked in one of those cast iron skillets and it tasted like a mouthful of metal.
3rd issue - the smoked sausage is the same red smoked sausage you can get down the road at the quick way for breakfast so save your money and pick something else.
I’m not writing this to complain or nitpick. I didn’t complain while eating other than making them aware. I believe it was a horrible idea to serve food out of cast iron. Hopefully nobody else has experienced this and hopefully they will decide to go back to whatever they were using before.
Some positives - the ribs and pulled pork were pretty good and once they brought out some fresh Mac and cheese & beans served in something other than the iron pan it wasn’t that bad.
Overall, I enjoyed getting out with my lady so it was a good night.
Yummy food, fun atmosphere, great service! Would definitely come back to try more. Our server was very attentive and explained the menu well, our food came out hot and was very tasty. I felt like everything was very reasonably priced and I love that a local brewery was featured on tap. The atmosphere was modern and family friendly.
The fresh food, ambiance and well-kept grounds at Smokehouse 518 provides an overall relaxing vibe. I ate here three days straight for lunch and had Heather as my waitress three times. Heather was attentive and friendly! On each visit, I ordered the small Smokehouse 518 salad with the cowboy ranch dressing while my friend orderedthe large 518 salad. I love the fresh salads. My only qualm is the consistency of the salad because each time the salad was either missing or had a lack of an ingredient; however, each time, they gladly corrected the issue. Add brisket to your salad.
Updated: Made another visit and Sandro was a great server. Food was delicious as always.
Enjoyed delicious food & drinks while watching the game out on the patio. Cheesecake was a 10! Madison, our server, was very friendly.
Service was so great! Our server, Chris, was terrific! The atmosphere is amazing as well as the fella singing!! The food has the potential to be good, but I was extremely disappointed. Everything could use a lot less salt!!! The ribs were alright, the brisket might have been better sliced, the baked beans were too sweet and salty, the skillet cornbread was dry and crunchy, coleslaw was good, the hash had too much chipotle and so much salt, the banana pudding was watery! Chris, he was so kind, had me try their collards and they were good, but greasy… maybe cause it was 830?? I didn’t think it was late… and it was $48 and we only got one 2 meat plate - $24 substitute Mac n cheese for hash and rice up charge $1, skillet cornbread - $7, 2 waters??, sad banana pudding had to be $12… you don’t even get to see your check… it’s all done a handheld device and rounded to the nearest dollar for paying cash… ☹️☹️
They are almost there for a full five stars. The staff and manager are excellent with service, personality, and being intuitive to customer needs . The food has the possibility of excellence, it’s just inconsistent. This is our second time and we tried different items to test the theory. First time, restaurant was not busy and food was cold, brisket was 75% fatty jelly and mac n’cheese was congealed. But, the ribs were fabulous, the pulled chicken mouth watering, and tots were crunchy. This time the food was all hot, cat fish crispy and burnt ends cooked to perfection. But, the waffle fries were soggy and the corn was not as advertised, Mexican street corn. It was delicious butter grilled corn, but we were expecting the eloté crumbled cheese and spices. We will go back again for ambiance and staff alone, but truly to try more and give them more time to work out the first year kinks.
Definitely a place to try, but go in knowing they are still new and need to get the routines down. They have a robot to carry the food out (entertaining and fun) but the parchment “newspaper” on the trays rips easily when you cut your food so you might be eating a little paper.
We were there as soon as they opened so we had the place to ourselves. My husband and I shared a plate (pick 3 meats/2 sides) and we still had food left over. The strawberry daiquiri….DELICIOUS!!!! A must try! Server/service was A+!!
