Best WLM Reviews
This is a fantastic restaurant and our #1 favorite in Charleston! The food is incredible! Chef Letha creates French favorites with the perfect blend of flavor and excitement. The food quality and service is always outstanding. The atmosphere is casual and warm, not stuffy. On our last visit, our sever, Dwayne, went way over the top to welcome us and make sure that we had a wonderful dining experience. He was perhaps the best server that we have ever experienced for his kindness and attentiveness. Mike, the manager, stopped at our table several times and was so happy to see us. (We visit Charleston twice a year by boat on our trips up and down the coast and this is always our first stop). Chef Letha also visited our table several times and topped off our experience with fabulous desserts. Although we always enjoy our experience at 39 Rue de Jean, during this visit Chef Letha, Dwayne and Mike left such a remarkable imprint that will remain with us for a very long time. Charleston has many fine eating establishments but none has more heart than this one. This compassion clearly shows in the food and service they provide.
A fine experience but not the quality I expected. Perhaps my expectations were too high but the food and atmosphere were average. Onion soup was very non traditional (not to my taste). Some unique items that we enjoyed. The duck was tough. Many of the mussel shells were empty. The desserts were the best part. Prices were reasonable. We would go back but with lowered expectations
What a beautiful dining experience!! Every one of the dishes we shared was gorgeous and so amazing. The Wine list is extensive (and check out the 1/2 price deals on Mondays!)
We had mussels, rabbit, duck, and lamb.
Our server was attentive and engaging.
We went there for a late lunch, had a couple of appetizers, and also a main course.
They had the cocktail of the day, which was extremely extraordinary .
Atmosphere was welcoming, our waiter a young lady very kind did everything to please our needs and to feel we are the most important guests.
Thank you for creating us a beautiful memory.
We will definitely come back from Chicago.
So some locals that wait tables at other restaurants said the quality had gone down here and that they used to eat here all the time. I thought it was fine. Maybe the food was better before? But like I said, the food that we had came out satisfactory.
We went for lunch (brunch). It was not busy, and we were served in a small booth from the bar. We had the duck and a croque madame. The duck was good. The sandwich was ok, and the ham was especially good quality. The fries were limp but had decent flavor. Rue de Jean was decent but not great. Overall, I think I would rather have something off of their dinner menu next time.
The food was excellent as expected and the service very prompt. The atmosphere is very nice although can be a little loud, but it's a friendly environment. Portions are average size for the price. Good value regarding quality of food, service and atmosphere.
I tried the Lamb porterhouse with a yummy glaze, cooked perfectly. My wife tried the scallops and my daughter the shrimp Pasta. They both liked their meals. The shrimp was average but the scallop sauce very good.
We made 730pm reservations in late March of 2024 and were seated promptly. If you want more quiet setting, I suggest requesting outdoor seating as indoors was bustling and much louder. An extensive wine list presented many options. Dinners were fantastic. My wife had short rib and I had salmon. Both were delicious! Server was knowledgeable and attentive. It was a highlight of our visit to Charleston.
