Best WLM Reviews
I just had a terrible experience. It took 45 minutes for my wings to arrive, only for them to come out undercooked and not even the sweet chili flavor I ordered. No one apologized for the delay, and to top it off, they still charged me for the fries—even though they fudged up my order and they ran out of blue cheese.
My friend ordered peppered steak and was told after the order was entered that they did not have this available. As a result, she requested two tacos instead. The server then returned about 20 minutes later to advise that she HAD to get 3 tacos instead of the 2 requested because she had to meet the price point of the peppered steak that was unavailable. The owner overheard the conversation and educated the server on what to do in the situation. Then my "vegan" jerk tacos came to the table in which it had regular dairy cheese on it. Sent them back and they appeared to be remade. I ate one there and once I got home, I realized they had only scraped the top off and added new lettuce to the top resulting in me indulging in dairy involuntary. I am furious.
I just discovered this place recently. It's a hidden gem in Hampton VA. The decor is inviting and gives you a chill vibe with relaxed atmosphere. The bartender Kalasha provided great customer service while I waited for my food. She informed me of the red velvet waffles and other brunch specials on Sunday. She also told me about the weekly night specials. I had the Salmon bites with Mac & Cheese and Greens which was delicious. It didn't take them long to make it and it was definitely worth my while. I'll be returning to check out more of their food and to relax. If you're ever in Hampton I highly recommend them.
The food was really good when I visited with family a few weeks ago but the service was unexpectedly bad. My sister and brother in law were running late so we ordered drinks and appetizers. Vodka tonic, gin and tonic, long island and a specialty drink. They arrived maybe 15 minutes later but the 4 of us still didn't have drinks. They ordered and her drink came before everyone who arrived early. They ordered food and appetizers and their meals came before everyone else. The 6 of us ended up sharing their appetizers and entrees. Our food did eventually come and was good. The food came out very staggered with the last entree coming out well after 5 others were eating. It was odd since there were maybe 2 other tables seated and they were not large groups or parties.
The most annoying part was separating the checks. I didn't realize my mom asked for a separate check until I saw her pay. The waitress forgot to add my mom's appetizer to her bill. I said to just add it to my bill. That caused my bill to be over $100. The waitress ran my credit card but later came back saying the was a problem and $20 didn't process. It wasn't possible to be above my credit limit so I was confused. She didn't understand either. I got both checks printed out to compare and saw a 20% separate check fee for bills over $100. I've worked in restaurants since I was 13 and my mom and sister have worked in restaurants and managed restaurants. I've never heard of a separate check fee and certainly not 20%.
It wasn't even our fault that the fee was triggered since the waitress made a mistake on my mother's bill. I spoke with the manager who refunded me in cash since my card was already charged. We're in Virginia Beach so probably won't make the drive to visit again.
If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Something in my gut was telling me the food would be trash based on how the tables were sticky upon us sitting down. It wasn’t a matter of simply wiping the tables because my friend carries spraying alcohol and we tried wiping the tables and seats. The tables simply weren’t finished. Second red flag was the fact that the host cancelled. (After thinking back, I feel that the spoken word/poetry night promotion was a last ditch effort to draw in patrons, which inadvertently worked.) *sigh* Anyway, my friend still went up and read her beautiful poems at some point during the hour long wait for our food. I was super hesitant about ordering at all, but I finally settled on the $15 Philly steak egg rolls and a $6 order of collard greens. (Keep the pricing in mind.) I specifically asked if the steak in the egg rolls was ribeye, because I originally wanted the pepper steak and when I asked I was told that dish also contained ribeye. The waitress said yes, which is the only reason I tried them. The menu described them as having bell peppers and onions. So I said okay. Sounds good. “They have ribeye, right?” Yes, yes. Ribeye, the waitress exclaims. Fine. Maybe 50 minutes into waiting for our food, I overheard the waitress to my right telling the sweet girl that we met who got the steamed cauliflower tacos(and sent them back) that the collard greens were hit or miss AFTER I had already ordered mine. At this point I was ready to just pay for our drinks and leave. This is when our food came out. Disgusting. The Philly steak egg rolls were 2 small egg rolls cut in half and contained what I know now to be frozen, steak-umm meat. The collard greens had no pot liquor, no flavor and were full of stems. I should’ve listened to my gut. I brought this to the waitress’ attention who assured me that the owner would NOT issue a refund, but rather offer to exchange the meal for another meal. I had lost faith in them at this point. The service was bad and the menu was misleading as was the promotional flyer from eventbrite. I walked to the bar to speak with the owner who told me that she indeed would not issue a refund and that I was the first person to ever complain about the food, contrary to the other reviews listed here. She told me that I was the first person to ever complain about 5 times during our 5 minute encounter. She also told me that she just tried the food earlier and they were good to her. I was not only fed up, but livid and disappointed. I tried my best to keep my true sentiments buried while I just kept it cute ordered something else as I had no other choice. I ordered lemon pepper wings and sweet potato fries. The wings tasted as though they were made in old grease. The sweet potato fries were drenched in powdered sugar and they were soggy. An apology for the extended wait time, the subpar food, and offering a resolve other than “pick something else” would’ve been the better avenue to take. Now here we are. Poor service, poor management. Do better!!
I came in today to get the most delicious hot old bay wings, and let me tell you, they were absolutely amazing! Kalasha, the bartender, is beyond outstanding - her drinks are top-notch and her service is truly awesome! The blackberry margarita she crafted for me was so incredibly yummy. You can bet that I will definitely be returning to explore more of the amazing drinks and food here.
We visited the restaurant on a quiet Wednesday when there were only four people there. However, it took us 15 minutes to get a table. Our waitress was smoking hookah at the bar while we waited for over 10 minutes just to get our drinks. Although the food was good, we were dissatisfied with the service. I would not recommend this place if you happen to be in Hampton.
This place is nice but the food is okay. The drinks were okay. They need to work on having the food to the customers on time. We waited quite a while for our food.
I will say the wings are on point, especially the honey Chilli wing..it was delicious. Crispy and well fried to perfection, so kudos to the chef for that????. Lemon pepper wings were nice too.
The tacos were disappointing.
It has potential to be a great place, I will try to visit again.
