What a joke.. just got fish and chips from 1976 cod.. charged me £10 for a fish the size of a fish finger and handful of chips.. asked him is it small or kids size he said it looks small but looks big.... I do not recommend them to anyone.. daylight robbery for quantity.... £10 for that.. never again
We thought lets try this place, since it is named 1976 Cod, so it must be well established. It is now run by an Afghani sikh, nice guy but, hasn't quite grasped the art of fish and chips heritage. Asked for large cod, he put 2 x small fish in the box. Slight scam going on there, the batter wasn't crispy just soggy! Expensive tho. Anyway , definitely will NOT be going back. The shop feels like he has a mini grocery section behind the counter!
every time i go here i feel like im being scammed. lunch time today ive gone in and paid £5 for a sausage and chips. after paying ive seen the sign sausage and chips £4.50 so when i mentioned it he says thats a smaller sausage. there is no smaller sausages cooked, there is no indication on the board that its a small sausage, infact the menu only has one size sausage. i let him keep my £5 as he obviously needs it and i left with no food. off to good cod on long lane now for some decent food served by honest people. notice how in his reply he now says a plain jumbo sausage and chips is £4.50, well why did he try to charge me £5 and make out its a small sausage for that offer, and they say they will make the prices more clear in future, well the price was clear as his reply confirms it, but they just want to overcharge
I didn’t want to give this place a bad review but this was inexcusable, ordered fish n chips and was really looking forward to my dinner, but then found a HAIR.
Reported it to the shop who offered I bring this back and he’ll provide me another, but the appetite was just lost with no offer of a refund either.
Hygiene, food safety standards are extremely important.
Food was 10/10 & cooked fresh to order. Friendly service made all the difference - highly recommend ????
Best chippy in the borough by a landslide. Chips perfect every time, proper chip shop chips not fries like a lot of chippys are doing. Not a fan battered sausages from chip shop but I always try one! these are amazing! Honestly from the service to the food. Lovely service. Would highly recommend. 2 nights this week we’ve had food from here!!
They say you should try everything twice, this is not the case for this establishment. I'm sure when they're good they're great but at 6pm on a Friday evening I expected more. I've never been to a chippy where they've offered to let me feel the temperature of the pie I ordered to see if it was hot enough. Unfortunately by the time I drove home (5 mins) and plated the food it wasn't very warm at all. The fish and chips we also ordered were freshly cooked but unfortunately the batter on the fish was still gooey and the chips were on the pale side, probably because the oil wasn't hot enough but I don't know that for certain. There's plenty of other chippys locally for me to not bother with this one again
