Best WLM Reviews
Update: Autumn, the salon manager reached out to me to correct the issue which I appreciated. I just wanted a refund but they insisted I had to come in before anything can be done. Certainly not what I’d choose but if they need to see the issues themselves for training as they said, I was willing to oblige.
Well I came to the salon, and was immediately sat in the direct chair to the right of the stylist who made the mistake. Loudly, Autumn asks “so what was wrong with the service we provided?” All while making sure I saw my previous stylist there with her current client. I felt incredibly intimidated but explained what happened and wanted to leave as quick as possible because I did not want this level of confrontation. Autumn insists three times she just wants to correct the mistake and I declined each time because I want to go to a stylist I’ve used before at Bird’s Barbershop. I again ask for my refund after being sat for roughly ten minutes but Autumn tells me “Rowe will give you a call later today after I have spoken with the salon manager.” I didn’t register it at the time but Rowe had called us and left a voicemail saying Autumn was the salon manager earlier that day. So they decided to just delay calling about their verdict rather than just do the right thing and refund me for a botched haircut/shave.
As it is now 6:18 pm on the 14th that I am writing this and the salon is closed and myself not my girlfriend received a call about their decision to refund me. I specifically asked that the stylist retain their tip for their time but I wanted to get the roughly $89 my girlfriend spent on this back. I don’t know what I have to do to make that happen because frankly, clearing communicating several times does not register to them.
My girlfriend decided to surprise me with the new client executive cut and paid ahead of time so I could come in, get my hair and beard trim and head out without any stress. When I got there Rowe, the front desk receptionist was fantastic and very welcoming. But when they went to inform the stylist of the appointment she came out and said “wait what are we doing? (Incoherent something said after the fact”) to them. I won’t name the stylist because I know she has a reputation to uphold and there could be a million and one reasons she didn’t do their best.
It wasn’t a great start but she was incredibly sweet, didn’t have much to say and was quiet for the majority of the appointment and I didn’t want to spark new conversation if she had something going on. When my hair was wet after the shampoo and cut she asks me “so do the layers look okay?” Even though my hair was soaking wet and undefined. I reiterated what I was wanting with my layers after having to clarify several times that I just wanted all of my hair to be able to go into a bun while still adding layers to show off my curls. My hair is about 14-16 inches long and this is a style I’ve done for about 12 years at this point. I got home with my new cut and my girlfriend pointed out that my hair is cut unevenly as you will see in the photo.
Beyond that, I got a shave/beard trim which I would consider to be something stylists in this barber shop would be good at but my beard was uneven as well. She kept having to shave higher and higher up to my jawline because one side or the other was uneven and eventually she just accepted what was there and I didn’t want it to be shaved anymore so I said it was okay. I keep finding it with high/low patches in random spots so I’m just going to use my Phillips razor tonight and trim it and shape it again.
I’m not a confrontational person so I feel bad asking for things in the moment and my girlfriend had to convince me to leave the review in the end. This just left a sour taste in my mouth because after tip it was $111 and not something we would normally splurge for. I could have gone to Bird’s and had a more pleasant stylist, the cut and trim I wanted with more competency.
I couldn’t be more thrilled with the amazing haircut my boyfriend got at this salon! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the receptionist, who was so friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was relaxing, which made the experience even better.
The hairstylist took the time to listen to what he wanted and made sure to incorporate the details from the pictures we showed her. She made sure everything was just right, paying attention to details that were important to my boyfriend.
Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a skilled hairstylist and a great experience overall!
Finding a new barber is always stressful. We’ve all been there—nervous about dropping good money on a cut that may or may not turn out how you imagined. But all of that disappears when you see Lilly. I’ve followed Lilly across different shops for years, and every time I visit her at 18|8, it’s a 10/10 experience. She’s a master at her craft, listens to what you want, and consistently delivers. If you’re looking for someone you can trust to always give you a great cut, Lilly is the one. Highly recommend her as your next go-to barber!
I’ve been coming to 18|8 for over a year now and so happy that I found Lili. I have never had a bad experience booking, they’re always extremely friendly and punctual. Lili (my stylist) is amazing and her attention to detail stands out in every haircut, I always leave feeling so relaxed and refreshed! Thank you Lili and 18|8 team!
I have used a lot of different salons in Austin ranging many different price points (some higher and some lower), but I can confidently say that every visit I make to this salon is worth it. My stylist, Lili, does amazing work in making sure my hair is exactly how I (and more importantly how my wife) wants it to be. Because of the work she does, I went from getting my hair cut every other month to almost every other week!
Lili has always listened to my feedback and instead of ignoring it (as some have before) or blindly doing what I request (which is just as bad as I am no stylist professional), she talks me through the pros and cons of every look as well as timelines for achieving them. It helps me feel well informed, heard, and satisfied with how I look at the end of every appointment.
What I love most about Lili’s services is that she offers a professional, licensed, straight razor cut that is difficult to get right at most places. I always recommend her to all my friends and if you’re reading this, I recommend her to you too!
One of the best men's salons in Austin. I always go see Portia who always gives the most consistent and great haircuts.
They also have nice little waiting area outside where they have some complimentary soda and beer.
I would recommend booking an appointment ahead of time as usually they are pretty booked.
I've been going to 18|8 for several years now. My most recent experience with Keayondra was fantastic. Each time I've gone to her my haircut was excellent, and when it gets long, it grows out naturally unlike some other haircuts I've had in the past which needed immediate maintenance.
She's quick, efficient, and when I expressed I needed to leave early in order to make plans immediately after my appointment, she was super flexible.
I’ve been seeing Keyondra at the 1818 Salon in the Domain for a year since I’ve moved to Austin from LA. She’s been the bomb, providing the best cut and coloring I’ve ever experienced. She’s amazing! Worth the $$!
