Best WLM Reviews
Sat in the bar looking for a more casual setting. Service was wonderful and food was excellent had a burger it was definitely a hand made patty 1/2 pound cooked to order. Onion Rings and fried mushrooms were very good. Sorry didn’t get a before photo.
Visiting my Parents and they have been taking us to their favorite places to eat and the 178 Club doesn't disappoint.
Their were of us and we all had something different. Chicken parmesan, Mediterranean chicken, shrimp scampi, grilled walleye and the garlic & parmesan crusted walleye.
Overall the place was pretty slow on a Sunday, and our meal was delayed due to an accident in the kitchen, but once it arrived it was delicious!!
We finished with the salted caramel vanilla crunch cake and the molten chocolate as well.
The wine selection is limited but they have some good wines, and there is a full bar available.
Updated 10/2/2024 - Went for a big birthday celebration and happy to say the food, the service and the place are all still good. Some of us had the same meals as last time, but add a ribeye steak and fried chicken special to the mix, along with a shrimp salad.
This review is based of two different nights. The first night we went for prime rib. The service was good, but the food was just OK. The escargot was delicious, and the berry tiramisu was phenomenal. However, the prime rib was just alright, there were pin bones in the walleye filet, and the mashed potatoes were terrible. The second night we came we sat in the bar area and it was very busy. That being said, our server Savannah did an excellent job and she was very hard working! This time we ordered the catfish and it was great! Overall, I would come back for the catfish, but probably not the “fine dining”.
They served chicken salad (super mild flavor) on rye (very strong flavor) so it just tastes like rye. Another bread would be better. Also, in the nicest way possible, the blonde server needs to learn to control her face. She scowled when she asked from across the room how she could help me as I was taking a seat at the bar (which makes it a confrontation, not a greeting) and made a face of disgust and just walked away when she asked how my food was and I said “alright.” She didn’t smile the whole time I was there. The flavor combo gave me my doubts, but the service made me not want to go back.
Big Herb popped up in here for a dinner with his mistress a couple weeks ago. We slid on in without reservations and was able to enjoy a fabulous meal. We visited again the next night. We made reservations later on and they were able to squeeze us in. I had the ribeye on night one and prime rib on night two. Gloriousness!!! Thanks for always being a great place!!! Our history goes back over 20 years with this place and it has never disappointed. Highly recommended!!!
4 staff in club at one time along with kitchen staff walking through the dinning area with large barrels just back and forth. We were trying to have a conversation with another patron, which was oblivious to the staff. Great waitress made great drinks. Another time, different staff, the waitress brought out food one at a time, I ate alone, as my husband was finished with his meal.
We have eaten there for years and we are always satisfied. Of particular interest are the paintings on the walls. They are mostly all painted by a waiter named Ted. He is a fantastic waiter and his art could be described as, interesting. Usually if one were to ask him what does this painting mean, he will reply, "what do you think it means"? I have talked our friend in Norway into two of them, a friend in St. Louis bought one at my urging as a very nice lady from Iowa. You just have to see them to appreciate his imagination or creativity.
Go to this restaurant, buy a painting and enjoy.
First of all my wife and I have ate there on numerous occasions. Last night was the worst service we have ever had. Our waitress Christina was very cold and distant. Other people that came in after us were getting served their bread and salads before us. I couldn’t understand that at the time and still don’t. They were not overwhelmed by customers so that wasn’t the problem. She acted like we were an inconvenience to her. Our meal was over $100.00 and I didn’t really want to leave a good tip because she didn’t deserve it. I left her 15% anyway. I normally leave more but I couldn’t do it in good conscience. A tip is not mandatory it’s earned by good service. We will continue to go back but that’s because the food is good.
